    There is no need to push in the feed-dog drop button when winding a bobbin. The complete sewing mechanism is automatically disengaged as soon a you put the bobbin on the spindle.
    As Farendloese commented earlier - that cam is broken - there should be 3 tabs to connect when it is inserted.

      might be dust, I had that from mine but when I did clean it up it went away, sombody told me that dust can smell when it get warm inside, I dont know if that is the case but the smell went away after a good cleaning up

      Most probably a capacitor failing. Sometimes they just smell a bit, sometimes they sizzle, sometimes they smoke sometimes they go bang ! their function was to stop interference on old analogue TVs. no longer needed. If you look inside and see something "electrical" that looks like it has burst/bulged/burned, just snip it out (insulate any remaining wires).

      Jodie McNamara this is for a 6440 but it may work for yours. ruclips.net/video/v_JQJYKAlnM/видео.html I released my gummed up 6440 by following this guy’s advice.

    There should actually be tree pegs on the camstack. One of the pegs here has been broken off. When there are pegs missing the camstack will not sit securely. It might work itself out.

    I have a 6460 which is very similar to this machine. Is there any chance you could guide me through the buttonhole function?

    • @Drottninggatan2017
      @Drottninggatan2017 4 года назад

      This is a 6460, he has just mislabelled it in the title.
      The buttonhole function is a bit tricky to master. As you might already know, you pull the width knob out and turn it to number 1, then it sew the left hand side of the button hole in reverse; Then you turn it to number 2 and sew the top bar while having disengaged the feed (or holding the fabric still), and the 3 and 4 for the other side and bottom bar.
      If the machine is not correct adjusted then this might not work well.
      And you can adjust the left and right hand sides for equal stitch lengths by turning the knob that is the reverse button.

    Hello! This is one of them "oil-free" machines, but mine's been kicking it for a long time and now is running slow. I've opened it up and cleaned it, but I think that it needs some lubricating. How and with what does one oil one of these up if ever? Much obliged!

      passburger I have two oil free machines from the 70/80s and even though the book says you don't have to oil I found grease in each one that had dried up to form a goo that slowed down the machine. Cleaned them up and now hum along like day one. Good luck.

      I sprayed the heck out of the machine from the back...and cleaned everywhere (the machine I had only sewed backwards)...then I did add a bit of oil here and there...where ever I saw something that moved....works great now.

      @@capedoryus How do I clean my Viking 6440 and get it to operating smoothly? I grew up with this machine, and it pains me to get rid of it. I have 3 other machines but they just don't compare to the performance of my Viking 6440. Did you replace the grease with something that doesn't turn solid?

    • @capedoryus
      @capedoryus 5 лет назад +1

      @@snickle211 I used a lot of heat, hair dryer, and triflow or sewing machine oil. I have solvents in the past which worked fast but after doing it with heat and oil I'm not sure it's worth the brain cells I lost. I freed up a HV 5730 or 5760 using just heat and oil.
