I just got my wife's 6430 back online. It sat for several months and needed the usual loosening / relubrication. These online how-tos from you and others have been very helpful.
My tip is that if the top shaft is too stiff for the motor and belt, just pop off the handwheel and put the end of the top shaft into the chuck of a 3/8" variable speed drill motor, and let it do the work while you lubricate and free things up.
I read your disclaimer, but this was not at all a difficult repair compared to some others I have done, such as Audi timing belt replacements. :)

At 18:20 he discusses the white plate and 3 screws that hold it over the shuttle hook (metal bobbin holder). I agree with the statement not to touch these unless you know how to adjust. However mine was goofed up so I had no choice. Here's what I did. There's an adjustment tool that's now unobtainable. The clearance between the shuttle hook (metal) and the shuttle cover (white plastic) needs to be 0.40 millimeter. I did not have the adjustment tool so I cut a piece of card stock that was 0.40 mm thick in a ring to sit on the shuttle hook. Then I took the arm casing off so I could get to the post adjustment screws that adjust the height of the posts that the 3 shuttle cover screws fit into. I used glue stick to stick the 0.40 mm card stock ring around the face of the shuttle hook, and installed the shuttle hook and cover. Then I loosened the 3 post screws and tightened the 3 shuttle cover screws. Then I applied gentle pressure to the shuttle cover and tightened the 3 post screws. Then removed the shuttle cover and hook, took off the card stock ring and cleaned off any glue stickiness. Reassembled everything and it worked perfectly.

Do you have a video of how to thread and how to set up the bobbin? I had a lesson from the guy I bought mine from but I didn’t use it right away and I’ve forgotten. Thank you

    Hi Cean,
My husband and I watched your videos. Thank you for that. I was recently given a Viking 6460. Unfortunately there is a very significant part to the lower right internal knob that is seriously cracked. Machine runs, just not as effectively as it should due to problem. After many phone calls and frustration we lost hope of finding said part. I was also surprised at how much the small belt cost which also needs replacing. I don't think I want to know how much the cracked part would cost. I feel the machine is just not worth investing $150.00 plus into it for the purpose I would be using it for. With that being said I have Cams B thru H, husband misplaced Cam A... All cams are in perfect working order - 3 tabs intact with no cracks. Also have the power supply/pedal and table that attaches to machine with no cracks and legs are perfect. Have cover as well but it's cracked in one corner but still has it's integrity. Also have bobbin case, bobbins, misc parts, button hole gadget as well. My husband has also offered to remove the motor if requested. My point - do you or someone you know want these items. I am willing to ship if shipping and packaging costs are covered. Thoughts? I have pictures available.
Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.

Wendy, I'm sorry for the HUGE delay. I hope you found someone to take the machine. If you did not, I'm interested in it. Thank you for your generous consideration and wonderful addition to the community.

These are great videos. Thank you for putting in the time into making them!
I have a Husqvarna 6460 that I inherited from my mother. Unfortunately the presser bar/ rod (unsure of the terminology) will not go up and down. The lever goes up and down and the presser foot tension dial works fine but the foot will not lift/drop. Upon further inspection, with the help of these videos, I noticed the the associated presser bar is stuck. I’m told it was in perfect working order the last time it was used, many years ago and everything else on the machine appears to function fine. I’m hoping it’s just rusted or something but if anyone has ideas for how to tackle it please let me know! Thank you!

Heat it with a hair drier first, then lubricate with tri-flow if you can find it. Silicone may be ok there too, but just be careful with over-spray. Gently work the rod up and down, don't force harshly or bang hard, but some gentle force and tapping may be in order. Patience, it will come to life. Do you know about the other issues to watch for with the cam gear and reverser mechanism? Heat and patience!!

I've watched all three videos: very helpful! The needle position in the presser foot seems to be stuck to the left (of center). But the stitch width and buttonhole knob at bottom right side are working. Is there someother way to reposition the needle to the center??

    Cean,
With your expertise and contacts could you possibly help me locate either the pattern mechanism or the gear for the mechanism. I am attempting to repair a machine given by my wife to our granddaughter and discovered the problem that you so aptly pointed out. Thank you.

this would be a really good video if 1: It wasn't so darn DARK and number 2: If somehow you could teach us how to oil the machine. I'm assuming it's like the other sewing machines it would need oil? Number 3: the bobbin is not letting the fabric move freely what can I do? I think I've gone through about $1,000 in thread and Rewound 10 different bobbins because it just keeps getting stuck I'm used to the Singer sewing machines and my very favorite all time machine was the Elna. is it also possible for you to show me how to do a basic Stitch?

Cean, I got one I picked up in pristine condition, but it will not sew forward, only backwards-the reverse button appears to do nothing. Is it likely a gummed lubrication issue as you mention? There are no nearby repairmen. I am handy with tools. Can you advise?

    • @cdmccul
      @cdmccul  6 лет назад

Lars Lutton - sounds like what all of them experience. Watch my videos and lubricate worth tri-flow for best results, after heating and removing as much of the old stuff as you can.

DO NOT TRY TO FORCE IT! You either need some heat applied to it, or a service tech to go through it... But I suggest that you find an older tech to look at it, someone who used to use these machines. The risk is that a younger tech may not know enough and just tell you too junk it. It sounds like the grease has gotten hard or sticky, and it needs cleaned, lubed and adjusted. If you try to force the mechanism, a vey small gear breaks and then your machine is very limited in what it can do. They are nice machines, just be careful with them if/when they get stiff. I do suggest keeping it and trying to maintain it.

Hi does anyone out there have a user manual for this machine that they are willing to share. I have lost mine and would love to be able to utilise all of the machines features!

    • @billiev8705

Linda Gatter I can usual find user manuals of older machines by Googling the brand name and type number + manual (or .pdf). Also, I think the Husqvarna Viking website may also offer pdf manuals of older models. Good luck!

Google “husqvarna 6460 manual” or “husqvarna 6460 .pdf”. If there’s one on the internet, you will find it.
