Hi, I'm glad I could share something useful with you. Technically, when winding the bobbin, the motor runs until you stop, or until the bobbin is pushed far enough out to disengage the switch. Many times this doesn't happen, in which case it runs until the bobbin is manually moved over. It is possible to adjust the stopper, so yours must be set so that it will disengage the switch.

Thank you so much for this awesome video! I just purchased this machine and I was super nervous. Your video made getting started (threading it, especially) so easy!!! This was AWESOME!
This is a great video! Question: do you believe the fix stitch is strong enough to act as a back stitch? I love how it has reverse, but absolutely despise how it has to do 2 stitches and then goes into reverse and 2 stitches again to reverse the direction. I have gotten in the habit of just doing a few stitches, and then rotating my fabric around to continue sewing for my back stitches. My brother you would just hit the reverse and it would go automatically not the +2,-2 stitches before and after. Overall it’s a great machine though!!
I do rely on the fix stitch. I asked about whether the 2 stitches it takes forward after you press reverse could be changed, but I guess that was hard programmed in. I've learned to adjust to it too. None of the other Vikings do this.
Thank you that was very helpful and laid things out very well. I’m new to this machine so I don’t know if I’m off base asking this but, does this machine automatically do a lock stitch at the start and finish?
It does a lock stitch automatically at the beginning. You can turn that off in settings if you want. You need to press the fix button to have it perform a lock stitch at the end.
Well, I hope you will now. :-) I bought my first Viking 14 years ago, and I have loved every one. We do offer this model online on our website at www.mcdonaldsvacuums.com/shop/Sewing-Machines/p/Husqvarna-Viking-Jade-20-x26539926.htm if you decide you want one. ;-)

Are you talking about after winding the bobbin? If so, you've wound it too tight, and you'll need to strip all of the thread off of the bobbin, and that bobbin is probably broken. The machine doesn't always stop winding the bobbin automatically - the motor keeps running. You can adjust the stopper so that it stops winding, but the motor will keep running. I just watch it and stop the bobbin before it gets too full. If it's something else, let me know and I'll try to help.
Thank you so much for the video. I watched it and you talked about the bobbin, and I took all the thread off the bobbin and it came off like usual!!!! love the how to video on this machine!!!
I so appreciate this video. I’m considering a Viking jade 20 as an upgrade for my 10 year old Janome new home, which I have had many minor issues with. One of which is that I can’t sew denim without skipping stitches or completely jamming (even with a denim needle). When I try to find a machine that will work for denim, all the suggestions are for mechanical heavy duty machines... no fun! Would I get by sewing denim with a Viking jade 20? It’s not something I do daily, but I’d like to be able to.
This was a very helpful video. I bought one of these machines from you a couple of years ago, so I was pretty familiar with how it works but still picked up several useful tidbits. 😊 I would love it if you did a video on how to use the twin needle function.
@@dalenemcdonald-mcdonaldsse8689 Hi Dalene, thank you for such a quick response. The machine and brand are new to me, so lots to learn. I am usually a Brother girl but love my Jade. Thank you for your offer to show me something but there is so much I need/want to know - you would have to move in with me for a month! xx
The Jade 20 is absolutely, in my opinion, a better machine than that Brother. We work on all makes and models. All of our technicians prefer any Husqvarna Viking to any brother machine. They're better engineered and better made.
Thank you so much for this! I really needed this! What about using a walking foot? Do wee need one and can we use it in place of the B foot and for decorative stitching on this machine? Mine didn't come with one but my last Husqvarna did...?
You can use a walking foot with this machine, but no, it doesn't come with it. This one would work with it. www.mcdonaldsvacuums.com/shop/c/p/DELUXE-WALKING-FOOT-LOW-SHANK-WITH-GUIDE-x51569050.htm
Thank you! Question.: I have been trying the shirring technique but no matter what I do, the elastic thread doesn't gather. Could you please give some advice, or is it not possible with a Jade 20?
I have done it with the Jade 20. Here's a link to video I did. Perhaps you should increase the thread tension. Make sure you have the elastic thread clicked in to the bobbin tension. I hope this helps. ruclips.net/video/pR754-hmUA0/видео.html
Thank you so much for this video. I'm a visual learner so this vidoe was very helpful. I've always sewn by hand, last year for Christmas I was gifted this machine. I'm still learninng and had two failed attempts. Turns out it was due to the quality of my thread. if you don't mind me asking, where did you get your thread?
Hi, I have this machine, and it suddenly won’t do anything except turn the light on. No sound when you press on the control foot at all. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
Do any of the buttons work? If so, try unplugging the foot control and plugging it back in. If that does not work, I'm afraid you'll need to take it to your local dealer.
I just got my Jade 20 today. It's been on order since last August! It finally came in and this video is very helpful! Thanks very much. I noticed you did not change ur needle when going from woven to stretchy knit. Should you do this or is it ok not too? :) And if not what needle did u use? Thanks again!
I didn't change my needle in the video for each technique because time. However, for best results, you should change your needle for the type of fabric and/or technique. For a very lightweight knit, I recommend a 75 stretch needle. For heavier weight stretch fabrics, a higher number like 80 or 90. For denim, at least a size 90 denim needle. Hope that helps. Your machine give you tips on what needle to use. Check the screen.
The settings are the same as for the Jade 35. You will need a free motion spring foot too. Here's a video for the Jade 35 that is basically the same for the Jade 20. ruclips.net/video/yitm9S2_mL4/видео.html
Amazingly informative videos!! I’m definitely going to buy my next machine from y’all. It will be either the jade or the emerald (while they’re on sale!) I’m leaning toward the jade after watching both videos but curious as to what you think the main differences/pros-cons are.
Well, there are quite a few differences. First, the Emerald is a mechanical machine, and the Jade 20 is electronic. A mechanical machine is likely to last longer simply because there aren't any chips or boards that may need to be replaced. Think about a typewriter versus a computer. The Jade 20 has some features I wouldn't want to be without now that I've used them. It has a setting for the machine to stop with the needle down. I love that feature because my project won't shift on me if I need to stop and adjust something. It also has a start-stop button, which I use a lot. I use it for buttonholes and special stitches, and I use it when I'm free-motion quilting. Another thing I love about the Jade 20 is that all of its parts and pieces, including the power cord and foot control, fit in its case and it becomes its own hard case. If you need to take it to class or put your sewing away, it is self contained and makes it easy to travel or stow in a closet. There are more differences, like lots more stitches on the Jade, but those are the main ones I can think of without having the machine in front of me.
@@dalenemcdonald-mcdonaldsse8689 thank you for this prompt and thorough response!! I think I’ll go for Jade; I have a very reliable mechanical Bernina but would love the convenient features you mentioned of the Jade.
Your video is super useful, I love it. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge. Thanks to your video I decided to buy a new HV Jade 20. I'm sewing like a big girl now :D Also looking for a serger, a hobby model but not toyish. Any suggestions?? Thanks again and stay safe :)
The HV H|Class 250S is a good basic serger. It is easy to thread. www.mcdonaldsvacuums.com/shop/Sewing-Machines/Husqvarna-Viking/p/Husqvarna-Viking-HClass-250S-x37999395.htm An even better one is the HV Amber Air S|400 serger. The lower loopers are air threaders, and both of the top needles have needle threaders. www.mcdonaldsvacuums.com/shop/Sewing-Machines/Husqvarna-Viking/p/Husqvarna-Viking-Amber-Air-S400-x43632866.htm There is more info on both of them at the www.husqvarnaviking.com/en-US/Machines/Overlock.
The machine is set with a "Fix" default at the beginning. It makes a few small stitches back and forth, so you don't need to back stitch at the start. You can press the "Fix" when you are finished instead of using a backstitch if you wish. The default at the beginning can be turned off in the settings. I believe that lasts until you turn off the machine.
Hi Dalene! I'm trying to decide what sewing machine to buy and currently I'm stuck between Husqvarna Viking Jade 20 and JUKI HZL LB5020 I saw good comments for both but I just cant decide. It would be my first sewing machine. Thank you in advance!
Hi! I have not used the Juki machine, but the Jade 20 would be a great choice for your first machine. HV machines are designed for ease of use, and the Jade 20 provides lots of guidance on how to set up the machine to sew beautifully on any type of fabric. You can even buy one from us if you wish: www.mcdonaldsvacuums.com/shop/c/p/Husqvarna-Viking-Jade-20-x26539926.htm. Whatever you decide, I wish you happy sewing! Dalene
I should add that you really should purchase your machine from a local dealer if you can. They will be able to provide support to you in the future if you have any problems, and should offer you a free, in person owner's class.
@@dalenemcdonald-mcdonaldsse8689 I live in Serbia so I would have to buy it locally here, and here it only has one dealer that is licensed to work on Hosqvarna machines! Thank you so much for your help.

I know on some things that have a lid like this there might be a catch to keep the lid from falling down. But this seems like a design flaw. I know the Jade 20 has been out for years.
@@walterlewis1029 The lid shouldn't snap like that. You might check where the lid connects to see if it's attached correctly. Did you purchase yours from a dealer? If so, I suggest you take it there and see if the can fix it for you.
Aaaargh, help wanted again. Please. The machine is eating my fabric. What did I do wrong? I did clean the machine. But suddenly the are stuck in the bobbin chamber every time...
Thanks for your video. I am new to sewing and have had this machine since last May. I cannot seem to sew over 2 layers of cotton (especially near an edge) or the fabric jams up. It helps if I use the walking foot. I've watched others sewing simple cotton projects (2 layers) on RUclips without having to use a walking foot. I cannot use the regular feet if sewing a simple cotton coaster with thin ironed-on fusible fabric.... In addition, it seems like the feed dogs pull to the left significantly when I'm sewing. Wondering if anyone else has these issues? Maybe I have a lemon ;(
The fabric jams, or is it the thread? Are you sure you are threading the machine correctly? The foot must be UP when you are threading the top of the machine. Make sure you pull the top thread through the foot and to the back before you start. This will help keep the thread from knotting up. The fix function will stitch 4-5 stitches in place at the beginning and then will start moving forward, so let it do it's thing. Also, don't push the fabric under the foot. The machine should pull the fabric through for you. If all of those things are working correctly, I suggest you take it back in to your dealer and have them take a look at it.
@@dalenemcdonald-mcdonaldsse8689 It is the fabric that jams. The walking foot helps a lot. Maybe I just have to use the walking foot for most of my projects....
I'm new to sewing and I just love my machine. However, I have tried rewind a bobbin and neither way is working. I have gone step by step on winding instructions and the bobbin just spins with winding the thread. What am I doing wrong? Please help.
Do you have the bobbin pushed all the way down onto the pin? There should be some metal showing at the top of the bobbin. You need to hold onto the thread until enough thread winds onto the bobbin so that it doesn't come out. If that doesn't help, please try to describe the problem in a little more detail, or maybe try calling one of the stores. I'm at this number Mondays and Fridays 620-441-0939 and this one Tuesdays and Saturdays 316-358-9146.
I have had this machine for 4 years. I have nothing but disappointment. The stitches are never even they go short to long, the material pulls to the left. I have taken it in for service but never fixes. Also the bobbin only wants to fill the top.
I just HATE this sewing machine!!!! The design of the accessory drawers is sticky and extremely annoying. They are very hard to open. Threading is a nightmare because there's not enough room to get your hands in there to thread that needle. Winding the bobbin us another nightmare. There is no automatic stop, it ALWAYS winds the thread in s tangled mess. Changing the needle is again difficult due to that small opening. Aghhhh!

Yes, you can sew through 9 layers of denim with this machine. If you'd like to purchase one from us, our website is www.mcdonaldsvacuums.com/
Thank you, you have a very nice video on this machine, just bought this machine today
Excellent how you explain everything
I’m so glad you found it helpful. Happy sewing!
Thank you! This was a very helpful video.
Thank you so much. Iv had this machine for a year and Iv only used it with the straight stitch😬🤷🏻♀️ I learned a lot
I'm so glad I could help!
I love this machine but he says sometimes E 2 and up. What does that mean and what can I do to fix it?
It means the motor is working too hard and needs to rest a minute. Are you working with thick fabric or many layers?
This was a very helpful video. I bought one of these machines from you a couple of years ago, so I was pretty familiar with how it works but still picked up several useful tidbits. 😊 I would love it if you did a video on how to use the twin needle function.
I'll get that done for you soon.
Hi Darlene, this video has been a huge help to me , thank you. Do you have any other tutorials on the Viking Jade? Many thanks x
Hi, June, I don't have any more right now. Is there something you'd like me to show you?
@@dalenemcdonald-mcdonaldsse8689 Hi Dalene, thank you for such a quick response. The machine and brand are new to me, so lots to learn. I am usually a Brother girl but love my Jade. Thank you for your offer to show me something but there is so much I need/want to know - you would have to move in with me for a month! xx

Hello I would like to know if this Husqvarna is better than the brother A80 thanks
The Jade 20 is absolutely, in my opinion, a better machine than that Brother. We work on all makes and models. All of our technicians prefer any Husqvarna Viking to any brother machine. They're better engineered and better made.
Excellent demonstration, thanks so much.

I actually haven't tried it on the Jade 20. Let me find some elastic thread and give it a try. I'll let you know.
@@dalenemcdonald-mcdonaldsse8689 Thank you!
I have done it with the Jade 20. Here's a link to video I did. Perhaps you should increase the thread tension. Make sure you have the elastic thread clicked in to the bobbin tension. I hope this helps. ruclips.net/video/pR754-hmUA0/видео.html
I just brought the Jade 20. If I want additional feet, can I use any husqvarna Viking feet or only those in a certain group?
Thanks!
We carry Robison-Anton polyester and Exquisite thread from dime. tinyurl.com/58h9wrk
@@lizzlepoo Thank you for your response. I switched out the foot pedal with one of my Singer machines, and it seems to be working now. Thanks again.
@@dalenemcdonald-mcdonaldsse8689 Thank you very much! :)
Can you use B foot for regular non bulky fabric instead of the A foot
Yes. The A foot has more surface area that connects to the fabric, though, so it is designed for regular fabrics and non-decorative stitches.
Wich thread do you recommend?
I use a 40 weight polyester thread for most things. I use Exquisite or Robison-Anton, but Glide, Isacord, or Aurafil are all good quality threads.
@lizzlepoo I am from Holland so now I bought gutermann! Seems good quality!
@@janetburer1316 gutermann is good!
Thank you, Darlene. And also for your explanation of the husqvarna jade 20! Helps a lot!
What settings for free motion quilting
The settings are the same as for the Jade 35. You will need a free motion spring foot too. Here's a video for the Jade 35 that is basically the same for the Jade 20. ruclips.net/video/yitm9S2_mL4/видео.html
Thank you for making it easy!

Yes, it does. You can pull the storage bins off on the left side of the machine.
Thank you very much
Hi do you know how to use the Viking 6270?
I'm sorry, but no, we don't have that model in the store.
I see you aren’t using a walking foot to quilt! Is that foot available, or is it not needed?
I'm sewing like a big girl now :D
Also looking for a serger, a hobby model but not toyish. Any suggestions??
Thanks again and stay safe :)
The HV H|Class 250S is a good basic serger. It is easy to thread. www.mcdonaldsvacuums.com/shop/Sewing-Machines/Husqvarna-Viking/p/Husqvarna-Viking-HClass-250S-x37999395.htm
An even better one is the HV Amber Air S|400 serger. The lower loopers are air threaders, and both of the top needles have needle threaders. www.mcdonaldsvacuums.com/shop/Sewing-Machines/Husqvarna-Viking/p/Husqvarna-Viking-Amber-Air-S400-x43632866.htm
There is more info on both of them at the www.husqvarnaviking.com/en-US/Machines/Overlock.
Do you have to back stitch at the start and end?
The machine is set with a "Fix" default at the beginning. It makes a few small stitches back and forth, so you don't need to back stitch at the start. You can press the "Fix" when you are finished instead of using a backstitch if you wish.
The default at the beginning can be turned off in the settings. I believe that lasts until you turn off the machine.
Thank you so much. This was very informative and helpful!!
So glad you found it useful!

Dalene could I ask about the Jade 20 when I open my Jade 20 Sewing Machine Sewing Advisor it makes a snapping noise and vibrates. Is this normal.Feels like over time this will break.
Walter, Is it the lid that makes the snapping noise? Or is it the needle that vibrates and pulses?
@@dalenemcdonald-mcdonaldsse8689 This is the lid(Where the Sewing Advisor is )when I open or close the lid.I get a snapping sound.Like there is resistant.Could you check your Jade 20 to see if yours does the same thing.
Yes it was purchased from a dealer.Dalene when you open the lid of yours. Is it a nice and smooth action.
LOVE YOUR VIDEOS! But can you Perhaps have the person look from your persepctive instead of having a slight view from an angle
:)
Just bought this machine and was able to use it!
The letters on the feet are stamped, not raised or embossed.
@@paperdogstudios6342 If that really is the case, then you should take it in for service.

I have this problem too. Will try again with the info provided. Thanks.
Thank you sooooooo much!
You are very welcome!
I have had this machine for 4 years. I have nothing but disappointment. The stitches are never even they go short to long, the material pulls to the left. I have taken it in for service but never fixes. Also the bobbin only wants to fill the top.
when you demonstrate how to do something, your hand is in the way
I know, and I'm sorry about that. We're working on trying to avoid that.
It's a bit frustrating that she always has her left hand obscuring what she's doing on the machine.
Hi, Donna, I'm sorry about that. I'll talk to our videographer about it.
Aghhhh!
