  • POLL: have you ever seen/had a sunburn this bad?
    What is sun poisoning?
    Sun burns and sun poisoning are virtually the same thing. Both of them occur when you’ve had prolonged exposure to UV rays resulting in a burn. The difference is what is accompanied by that burn.
    If you experience any of the following symptoms, it may be sun poisoning and you should go to the hospital immediately to lower your chances of further complications.
    1. Nausea/vomiting
    2. Fever/chills
    3. Headaches
    4. Dizziness
    5. Dehydration
    6. Confusion
    7. Rapid pulse
    Whether you believe the sun is healthy or not, there is a limit to where you put yourself at risk for major health complications.

    Also, NEVER pop the blisters! Can cause infection & scarring). If you know you’ve been badly sunburnt and it is recent (a good guide is that if it is starting to go red that day before sundown), then jump into a completely cold water shower for 20 minutes (it’s a LONG time - put on a timer). This is standard first aid burn treatment and works really well in reducing the severity of the burn.

    • @misseselise3864
      @misseselise3864 Месяц назад +4

      1. a red sunburn is just a sunburn. all sunburns are red.
      2. it needs to be cool water, not cold water. cold water might feel better but it can dry out your skin which will delay healing.
      3. cool water won’t reduce the severity of a burn, it will only prevent a burn from worsening
      in addition: aloe vera is incredible and should be used multiple times a day. you should also try to avoid excessive sun exposure when you have a sunburn since your skin’s barrier is compromised by the existing burn

      The only time I've seen a sunburn like this was when my ex was playing barefoot bowls on boxing day and forgot to put sunscreen on his feet (but put it everwhere else). we were in the sun for ~2h and his feet ended up blistering so bad they swelled and 2 days later the massive blisters burst with aloe vera jellylike ooze. but nowhere else on his face body was even slightly burnt - and he was wearing a singlet and shorts only. I burned my lower legs and feet really bad right after graduating college. I went to the Oregon coast with friends to celebrate finishing school, I have a disability and it’s hard to reach my feet and ankles and I didn’t want to ask for help. So I got burned very badly. I woke the morning we left and I knew I was in trouble. But I got no sympathy from my friends. In fact they thought it was funny. So not wanting to make any more of a deal I just got through the ride home and by the evening I had to crawl to my phone and ask my mom to take me to the ER. They were super nice at the ER but there wasn’t a lot they could do. They gave me opioids pain relievers and told me I should stay laying down with my legs elevated. So I had to go stay with my mom and dad. It took 10 days before I could get around very well. I got the huge blisters and when they broke it was like I wet the bed and the sheets needed to be changed. I got the fever, but lucky for me no vomiting, which seems rare with the amount of pain I was in. One friend found out about what happened and sent flowers and an apology.

    I had no idea that you should go to the hospital for those symptoms with sun poisoning. I once got it when I was a kid and my parents just had me sleep it off in a dark room. I was throwing up, shaking because I had chills from fever, and I could barely touch anything without severe pain because of how extensively I was burned. The only spot that was not burned was where my swimsuit was. This all occurred because my mother did not "believe in sunscreen", and I am pasty as the driven snow. We were on the beach for 8 hours.

    Lived in Florida for years, but when we first moved there I was only 13 & I didn't realize how badly you can get burned on a dark, really super cloudy day. Went for a walk on the beach & the tops of my feet were so burned, my flip flops wouldn't fit because of the swelling. I had to go to church without shoes on the next day. 😂

    Live in Australia and had sun poisoning so bad. Vomiting fainting swollen arms and legs and pain to move internally not just the sunburn. Went to hospital and told to go home they don’t treat that type of burn

    I had mild sun poisoning one time it blistered me but not enough to go to the er. It got on my shoulders, beneath the left of my eye around my cheek nose area. N a rough sunburn on my chest. But the strange thing is, after it healed I developed eczema, it appeared on my face near my nose(where the burn was). N if I don't keep up with it, it will swell up and flake off and get sore to the touch like eczema would. But after a few days of extra care n some cerave it's gone back to normal! I wonder if it was just a coincidence or if the sun poison may have had an effect on it.

      @MaximumSkin  Месяц назад +1

      Hmmm… i couldn’t say for sure, but eczema is caused by a mutated gene, so you would have always developed it eventually. Maybe the inflammation from the sunburn triggered your first flare up!

    I burn like that at least once a year, and I get flu like symptoms for at least three days.
    I did go to the hospital a few years ago, based on the recommendation of a youtube guru.
    I was shamed, and told its just a sunburn, take some ibuprophen, and cetaphil lotion if the burn becomes itchy. The NURSE rolled her eyes at me when I said I was feeling nauseous and my head was throbbing.
    So yeah, go to the hospital if you want, but dont surprised when they make you feel stupid about it.

    Oh yeah. I'm Australian and when I travelled to Portugal it was the same temperature but I just.... Didn't burn. It was amazing what an Australian sun routine achieves outside Australia 😂 I was walking around in 40°C heat and the locals kept warning me to be careful of sunstroke and getting burned and I just replied "Isto Australiana" and they would laugh at me and give a thumbs up.

    I had this happen to me at 12 years old. Was at a waterpark and was to young and stubborn to want to put on sunscreen. Got sick in the evening (family thought I was overreacting) and the next
    Day had big blisters on my shoulder. The skin on my shoulders still have some tiny white spots that look like blisters and get burned more easily too. Always put on sunscreen when going outside! Even on cloudy days.

    Queensland (my state) Australia is the melanoma capital. 80% of people will have a skin cancer removed at least once in their life. A lot of biopsies come back benign if cancerous it's not life threatening if you get your skin checked regularly. We have free skin cancer clinics that ask you to come in yearly for a check up 😊👍

I woke up shaking and vomiting and crying in pain. I remember getting so many burns like this and sometimes worse on my back when I was a child (neglect from one parent); my partner informed me recently that my back has scarring and discolouration (it’s not really noticeable unless you are looking closely) that tracks with the damage done to it. He didn’t make the connection til we were on the topic of sunburns and such

    Me and my friends got stranded tubing for 7 hours or so. We were really badly sunburnt and were suffering some exposer as well from lack of water and food while out there
    They went to the hospital and I didn't for the symptoms. All they did was give one girl like an anti nausea or pain pill, gave the other girl nothing, and just told them to drink water and get rest. Waste of time because they didn't do anything and racked up a giant bill.

    Usually once I year, I put myself in a situation where I’m raw dogging the sun all day.. I’ve never blistered, but I do get headaches and diarrhea for a days time. Also I’m part redhead and pale so I’m basically cosplaying as a glow up stick each summer. So far I’m good this year.
    Wear freaking sunscreen and reapply that sus white substance throughout the day.
