As a complete beginner to tanking this was super helpful! It seems so overwhelming now that I'm getting close to 50 and raid content but this made some of the mechanics easier to understand for someone who doesn't really know what they're doing :)

Tanking in alliance raids so confusing. Half the time, I get a complaint that I am not doing the job. If not MT, should leave my stance off? If its on, but not the MT, should I match with other two tanks? If stance is off, and other alliance is MT, I get complaint, that the group doesnt have a tank. so confusing. Perhaps, healer's just being toxic.

In Alliance Raids typically one of the three tanks ends up being the MT and the other two are just there ready to pick things up if needed.
Usually there are mechanics where there are three things to hold aggro on, in which case you'd want to ensure your tank stance is on and you're holding that mob.
Against bosses, if you're not the MT than you'll be just as well leaving your tank stance off. If you're ever in a situation where you need to provoke, you can quickly flip on your tank stance and provoke, which will glue the boss to you no problem.
Whoever was throwing a hissy fit in an Alliance Raid seems like they were being fussy for little to no reason.
Alternatively, a lot of people just raid with their tank stance on the entire time and basically "fight" the other tanks for aggro...which is kind of waste and confusing for the healers.
The best TLDR would be: If there are three things that need attention, make sure your tank stance is on and you're holding your spot. If there's only a single boss in the fight, only one tank is truly needed, and the others are backups.

@@Keylime yea, usually if my stance is on, I just go same place as the mains tanks position. Last time I turned it them off, causes confusion with the party.

I wouldn't really call this a "definitive" guide, this is closer to being a beginner's guide or an entry into tanking guide. It's fine for either of those, but calling it a definitive guide is a bit of a stretch and misleading.

The main reason I named it this is that I’ve found a lot of guides that cover only basics, or largely focus on DPS, but never really cover the full spectrum of things in a nice tight package.
I could make a 50 minute video to explain literally everything in detail, but no one would watch it and it would help less people.
As far as tanking is concerned, this video should give anyone everything they need to know, or NEED to go learn.
      From beginner to end-game raiding.
Definitive is potentially a bit click-baity, but I believe it’s the guide that I wish existed when I was teaching myself.

@@Keylime That's fair. Sometimes we gotta take matters into our own hands. If you're accepting positive/constructive criticism I'm willing to give it regarding some of the gameplay being displayed as the backdrop.

      Absolutely.
I know that I accidentally triggered tank stance on during the shirking example, that my opener should start with the DoT GCD and wasn’t performed perfectly (these clear videos happened while I was still learning).
I believe I also triggered some CDs late.
I have a ton of my own criticisms of my play in the videos, but if there were other things you saw in there I’d love to hear em.
I won’t claim to be the best or perfect!
Thanks for being reasonable in your feedback unlike the other folks on Reddit.

@@Keylime Rotation-wise, you talked about making sure your rotation was on point more or less, but you're flopping a bit on your rotation. Learning it and refining it is something that can be done easily over time. Making sure to use your oGCDs inbetween your GCDs is important, and knowing when to pop them in order to align them correctly is especially important.
Also I'm sure reddit has been hounding you about some things, but just make sure you're not informing off tanks to completely leave tank stance off. You should be leaving it off for a few GCDs, then turning it on shortly after the pull. This ensures that you remain at least 2nd place for threat generation. It also prevents you from having to provoke incase things go south like the MT dying from mechanics, lack of healing or what-have-you. Tanks generate so much aggro these days thanks to the changes they received that it's more or less braindead. So always remember to leave it off initially, then turn it on shortly after the pull. You can adjust based on the aggro bars under each player's portrait in the party UI. If your co-tank is largely undergeared for instance, maybe you'd be better off MT'ing, if you simply don't want to MT, you can wait a bit longer to turn on your tank stance.
This is also important to know as tanks have different times to their burst windows, and their burst varies ontop of that. So knowing the limitations of your co-tank will help in knowing when you're going to want to turn on your stance. But definitely do not leave it off the entire time as that can actually become a very unfortunate situation for whichever DPS is 2nd on the aggro bar, especially in savage where auto attacks themselves are hitting tanks extremely hard (relative to a dps player's hp pool.)
Lastly about this bit as I've hammered home the point a bit already, there are mechanics where the 2 top aggro players will get tankbustered. Those very much exist and if the co-tank is sitting at the bottom of the threat board because their stance is off, that unfortunate DPS player is now a few seconds away from tanking the floor.
So yeah, just work on your gameplay, you have a great voice for making content, and looking at your sub count, you aren't new to creating content. Good luck out there, and take what people on reddit say with a grain of salt. There are those who really passionate about their job/role and are not the greatest at constructive criticism, but I'm certain the have good intentions behind what they're saying. If they're just outright hating on you with no constructive feedback whatsoever, they aren't worth listening to. Not like they're giving you anything to work off of to begin with. It's really sad how spiteful people are these days.

I agree with everything you said here.
I’m definitely still working on my own DPS optimization and comfort level (these video snips were all from my first clears, when I also hadn’t done research on maximizing DPS).
I do wish I gave better clarity on the OT tank stance bit. But hopefully people read your comment if they don’t pick up my loose commentary on that subject.
As far as YT stuff goes...who knows. At times I feel like the FFXIV community won’t embrace anyone new entering the scene, but perhaps I’m just going about it the completely wrong way for this community.
Regardless, I sincerely appreciate your feedback. Thank you!

Why you should DPS as a tank ? it's the dps job to dps.
You got one goal as a tank, take the aggro, keep it and stay alive.
Now I get why I suffer that much as a heal, they think they must DPS as a tank and ignore the healing capacities of their attack.
