- The piano on the right is at concert pitch; the left is a semitone flat. To make things sound right, I have to play the left hand in A major while the right is in A-flat. So, here's an impromptu Maple Leaf Rag - hope you enjoy!
Music starts at 0:50 - thanks for listening!
this guy has two hands
Couldnt tell
Wow really, bloody brilliant tho
Wait what?????
Lol
carlos carlos And he has two pianos... 😄
rumor has it you not only need two hands to play this, but two brains as well.
We actually have two brains. If the left and right hemisphere are separated (corpus colossum cut through), they act independently. Then it can happen that your left hand (right hemisphere) is choking you and you can't do anything against it. /uselessrant
John Ny piano uses both sides, creativity and logic
Right brain for the left piano, left brain for the right piano
@@ssimon64 yeah, left brain controls right side, right brain control left side
I think that he must avoid to see one of pianos to not confuse
An expert is someone who takes something very difficult and makes it look easy!
We've all seen Tom Brier play this rag in three different keys --- in consecutive order. We've not seen this, though! Very good!
Didn't someone play it in Bm too?
@@00bean00 Max played it in b minor. Go watch max keenlyside maple leaf rag in the key of what?
@@jollylawyer9999 no he played it in Db minor
As Matthew said: let not thy right hand know what thy left hand doeth.
Why do people come on these things and dislike? Obviously no idea how difficult this was.
Well done you, haters go watch teletubies.
the best roast I've heard. And like all videos people dislike things because they're trolls
Neil Fairley I’m not a pianist, so I don’t know how difficult it is, but I’m still not going to dislike it; that’s just petty.
I'm a musician but not a pianist. It's supremely difficult to transpose on the fly like that in any instrument and while playing in Ab at the same time, incredible.
OK he probably practiced a bit, but the rhythm and character was all there. I'd give 9/10 for such a unique attempt.
respect man , apart from the difficulty of the transposition aspect , you didn't rush it as so many fingersmiths do ! ! thanks !
+Olivia Janz Kordell Thanks very much! There's nothing wrong with playing it faster, but I like this medium groove with a light swing.
Finally, someone who plays the Maple Leaf at the correct speed instead of racing through it. Well done!
Oh, racing through it is fun, too. Instead of following Joplin's admonition, use Tom Brier's instead: "Do not play as written. I never do." Try playing it REALLY slowly, as well, and see what you can learn from that!
TWO DIFFERENT KEYS!!! This man has some incredible skills… super super impressive!
Excuse me while I go clean the remnants of my brains off the wall.
I've been a classical pianist for over 60 years, and I have perfect pitch and can transpose to different keys if I know a piece fairly well or have heard it a number of times, but I have to say that not only would this feat you accomplished be difficult for me (unless I practiced it a lot) but you did it fantastically. A Major in the left hand and A Flat in the right! Almost makes me shiver. A big BRAVO to you, Max.. I'll enjoy watching some of your other clips.
Paul Miller in Los Angeles
This is both MANUALLY difficult and COGNITIVELY difficult. Amazing!
53 other people can't distinguish awesome music and skills 🙄. This is great!
Lovely performance. Well done. Thanks for sharing.
Max - for somebody who does not play the piano this clip is novel and entertaining. However, for somebody like myself who does play - and quite well, this is OUTSTANDING. I know and appreciate the magnitude of the challenge and you did an excellent job! My hat goes off to you!
yea i think in the beginning it would be very hard its like contradicting in a way like imaginary numbers i*i=-1 but i think once you start doing it and overcome it you should get used to it and be able to play it like normal muscle memory
Don't have to be a piano player to see that this is insanely hard
@@lred1383 Why is it insanely hard? All he did was memorize how to play the bass line in a different key. All that means is that he is playing different chord patterns than the original. He already had the right hand memorized so there is nothing "insanely hard" about what he's doing. Any pianist could do the same with a song they already had memorized with a little practice.

Bravo Max avec du Jelly roll Morton dedans c'est toujours très beau !!!
May not have been in perfection... but it sure was a pleasurable fun thing to listen to... will be putting on my regular play list!
A rather handsome fella, playing Scott Joplin AND on two pianos... I am swooning
That's just showing off..................and with that talent why not? Bl%dy brilliant!!!!!
Wow! Also it's nice to hear this piece slowly enough so that it can be properly appreciated!
HOLY HELL!
That was AWESOME! My entire music class has to watch this!
Jesus Christ. Dudeee! It's so hard to do this while u playing but u nailed it! Respect man :3
Not only is that difficult to pull off.. but the performance itself is actually incredible...
What is even more impressive is how you keep the tempo going when you fluff notes and bring it round again!!
how is this possible? just incredible and it sounded fabulous! BIG THUMBS UP!
I thought I had seen it all but that is ridiculous in all the best ways! play it with your nose on a third piano that's a semi tone sharp!
Henry Bojangles omg yes 😂
Holy perfect double dose of out of key fixing piano playing coordination, Batman! That's some amazing talent!
i know this is rather old but max i am so enamored with this!! i’ve never been able to play piano so this is crazy to me and blows my mind. the amount of practice it mustve taken to get this good is dedication i really admire. maple leaf rag is one of my favorite piano pieces ever and the little gliss you added to certain parts really sold it for me. wonderful way to bring a smile to my little face :>
as a clown and someone who enjoys ragtime and old sounding music this just warms me. the sounds of both pianos mix together so well. i could totally jam to this any day!!!
Thoroughly enjoyed this. You are wonderful and awesome on the pi-aner, with a pleasantness to boot.
Forget how amazing it is that he can play in two diff keys like that. His tempo is perfect!!!! Loved it!
I’ve been playing piano for 8 years now, and this so impressive. Amazing work
Impressive on several levels... one, that you know how to tune a piano! Thanks for sharing this video.
That's one of the most incredible feats I've ever seen! I doubt I could play "Chopsticks" in two keys simultaneously, let alone "Maple Leaf", which is one of the most difficult rags. Congratulations!
Sigh. My musical genius is but an ant before these gods of sound.
Thank you for the music. This it totally not a train wreck. I like listening it to this version it seems a little slower which I like.
Love the improvisations in the right hand. Very tasteful and not overdone.
Yes, “tasteful” is an appropriate term to use in discussing ragtime. 🙂
best pianist in the world
That seems ridiculously hard haha
The half step is the worst too, larger intervals would be easier cause they're obviously distinct...
Wow! My mind refuses to understand how is this even possible!
A Brilliant Train wreck mid-air with special fx.Love it!
Incredible performance, amazing. Well done bravo.
I wanna hear it the whole way through with the left hand being untransposed :D
Hah I have the same cacophonous desire as well.
I have a digital piano and I record myself playing a semitone flat and I play over the recording with normal tuning and it sounds weird
this was brilliant! Great improv on top of it too!
Joyful, lovely, happy-making, the sound is so rich. Absolutely fabulous. Thank you Max!
Damn ace bro, any musician worth his salt will recognise this feat as pretty darn hard, thumbs up, and keep playing like this!!
Wow, my brain hurts! That takes some co-ordination!!
I like your rendition of this song. The flourishes that you added compliment the song very nicely. The slow tempo along with soft playing make this song so pleasant to listen to. Keep up the good work!
Why doesn't this have like 20000 likes instead of just 2000!?!?!? That's what I want to know!
what a talent!
Now if only i could play two flutes at the same time
Same
You have two nostrils, a mouth, two ear holes, and, em, _another hole or two_ depending on gender.
That's 6-7 holes that can blow out air, therefore, 6-7 flutes you can play simultaneously.
I quit life
DAMN.......This guy is the Sh** where else can you find a guy with this talent
Wow that was amazing! And you played that with so much ragtime flare!
Totally amazing, what a LEGEND
this guy has 2 brains
Fantastic to watch, very well done. I'm a pianist and play this piece myself. I can't imagine trying to play in Ab on one hand and A major in the other, whilst only having the ability to see one hand at any one time.
Good work my friend. Keep playing!
I absolutely LOVE “The Maple Leaf Rag”!💖💖
One of my favorite pieces. You took it to a new level though. Beautifully done.
Wow! Kudos to you for mastering this complicated piece of music and in 2 keys yet! I used to play this on my Uncle's player piano. It was so much fun to put the roll in and pedal away. So simple, but you, Max, are a true piano genius. Thank you for you entertainment.
Holy sh*t! and you managed to make it look easy as well! Fantastic!!!
Tempo's perfect and great ad libs! (Watching both hands playing in different keys made me feel sea sick!)
I am very impressed. I have a 1915 Evert 56 inch upright that was not able to be fully brought to pitch so it was left a half a step bellow and the Lauter that is next to it was tuned to A4 40 and I was able to transpose to play them together with my friend but not like you. That's Awesome!!
Just great, funny way of solving the problem with the old piano ;-)
wow! Amazing Talent!!
You, sir, have a talent
I love the little piece at the end.
You are AMAZING!!!!!😉
LOL! That was fun, I enjoyed every note, even the "blue" ones. Scott Joplin has brighten my days for as long as I can remember. And you are a talented young man, Sir.
Simply blown away. BRAVO!!
HOW ARE YOU SO GOOD AT THIS
Splendiferous, omiferous, voceriferous and great talent.
Thanx for posting.
Rick Wakeman and Keith Emerson would be proud! Wish I had your musical talent. Respect!
Dude this is freaking amazing ! Wow!!!!!
You are one of a kind for sure. I watched several of your videos on here and I am more than impressed. Have you ever tried playing this song in D-flat? Just move your hands up and play it, the notes all seem to fall in the same place. If a self-taught piano player like me can do it you should have no problem.
Definitely not a train wreck!
not 2 hands but 2 brains. wow !!
GEEZ ALOO! THIS IS EXTRAORDINARY TALENT. I CANT EVEN PLAY A CD RIGHT WITH THIS MUSIC! CHEERS TO YOU!
Excellent. I'm in awe. You definitely have control of the hands!
awesome..cool seeing it split like that. well done!
A difficult piece to play, at the best of times, made to look so easy. Thanks for posting!
An amazing performance - you are very talented. Greetings from Scotland!
I thought you were going to play them in actual different keys ahah! that would have been nice to hear.
Not to mention the incredible amount of talent you have...
He was...
Evan more fireworks on this video. Thanks for another great performance
What a difficult challenge - man, I'd say you pulled it off - good on ya' Brother, Play on!
Bravo! But more important than the challenge, I love the delicacy and clarity of the playing, and the nice detour into a blues interpretation towards the end. Well done.
Absolutely AMAZING performance. Thanks for this video.
Beautiful, greatly played.
Not only is this an amazing feat, this guy looks and sounds like he’s really enjoying doing this
I knew you as a brilliant piano composer and performer, as well as a very good person. But now I realize that you are also a magician!!
Really amazing. It's hilarious that all the clinkers were on the right hand.
Great piece, great performance
that's ridonk man. good job. I love the maple leaf rag. I think a lot of people try to 'swing' song too much, particularly the big run
Pretty incredible there bro!
I can't play this piece in one key never mind two !! I don't know how you do it. I really enjoyed listening - thanks for posting. Nice piano ( the old one )
Beautifully done, thanks!
Rustic but with heart and character. Kudos
Almost! If anyone had asked, 'Can it be done?' I would have said that it was unlikely. Well done, Max! 🙂👍
you are crazy man!!!!.. cooollllll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
FABULOUS! Thanks for this clever posting.
The difficulty involved in this is amazing! I hope people can only understand how difficult this really is!
Well, I am a working pianist and have seen this video of you max doing this song before on 2 pianos. I cam back to this like five years later and i have to say I listened to it again. Boy this is funnier than hell hahahahahahaha!!!! Sounds like something i would do. I actually at one time years ago played an accordion with one hand and i had my right hand on a keyboard synthesizer. It was quite funny. I loved doing that though. Kinda weird what we do as pianists. Hahahahaha!!! Keep it up bro!!!!
