Not only Shadow is the mirror image of Sonic. He is also left handed (see the videogame 'Shadow the hedgehog', the Japanese commercial about his own videogame and lots of Sega offcial art where he snap his fingers, hold guns and does many stuffs involving precision and endurance with his left) , unlike Sonic who is right handed. Sonic was happy, lively yet elusive, Shadow was sad, phlegmatic yet mischievous. I would say that he was overall very pleasant and likeable unlike the Shadow we have had from the later 00's and going on (with a couple of exceptions).
Also, in early days Sonic was a loud talker with a high pitched voice while Shadow had this soft, soothing, melancholy voice that contrasted with his figure suggesting a more rough, strong voice

I think peak shadow is in sonic 06. Bro is unwavering in his principals and will stand by his friends no matter how grim the future looks. That shits so good!

Sega has forgotten that Shadow is capable of loving people deeply. He was hurt, so it's hard for him now. But the idea that he found a connection to characters like Sonic, Amy, and Rouge rounds out his character so well. So I hate that Sega has decided he no longer cares for anyone at all.
For real. All the care about is constantly making him beef with Sonic, for no reason.

Okay now while I love Anakin. I don't think Hayden should voice Shadow. Sure, they have similar voices but when it comes to acting ability... Hayden is great in everything except line delivery. In almost every movie I've seen him in, even outside of Star Wars, his line delivery has always felt stilted and off. Hayden shines at conveying emotion through his face and body language. And yeah, when he has to yell he can deliver but still.
Who do you think would suit best? (And to make it interesting, aside from Keanu!)

Hm, good question. Well if it were up to me, I'd choose someone who is actually a voice actor. Any of Shadow's previous voices would do. Humphrey, Griffith, Hanlin... all except for Kirk... I can't take his Shadow seriously at all.
But since this is a Hollywood blockbuster I know they gotta get a somewhat big name actor. And finding a single person that could capture everything we had in Humphrey's performance sounds impossible but if I had to narrow it down a few choices I'd say there's Oscar Isaac (he's shown to be equal parts capable of playing stoic, angry, smooth, cocky, and duplicitous characters), Lakeith Stanfield (is really good at playing tragic figures, he's got a sorta youthful voice without sounding like a child, has a lot of range when given a good script), a few I just like are Michael Fassbender (solely based on his stint as Magneto), Jensen Ackles (played Dean in Supernatural and Red Hood in Batman), and a friend of mine suggested Adam Driver (he's like Anakin but can deliver even the cringiest lines with a lot of depth), aaaaand I'd also say your idea of Christan Bale doesn't sound so bad.
To be honest, shadow is still great in shadow 05. Don't get me wrong, the edginess wasn't necessary at all. But, that's really about the difference in 05 characterization. Without the vocal tracks and the opening cutscene, he wouldn't appear edgy at all. Guns are edgy? Well then, I guess fortnite is super edgy lol. We've also seen multiple characters holding a gun in their hands before and after shadow 05. Eggman had a gun in sa2, tails had a gun multiple times, sonic had a gun in archie etc. So in that case, tails is edgy as well.
Shadow might say "not you again" when he sees sonic, but he isn't angry at sonic like in prime or any other modern media, he just prefers to be without sonic. Preferably, I think shadow shouldn't be introverted, I think the idea of shadow only being happy when he sees rouge and omega cuz' they are his closest friends is still an interesting idea that almost makes it up for the loss for me.
+ That is the 1 of the only 2 instances where he acts like that towards sonic in that game, and he still helps him even after saying that sentence. + He is just cool. No matter how much you dislike the guns or the edginess in 05, you still must admit it looks cool. Yes, he looks cool without it and he doesn't need having a gun in his hand, but that doesn't mean these guns take away the style. It's in the end just another way of showing of the coolness of shadow (that sounded sooo cheesy).
As long as he's the coolest, he's the shadow I love. The renders, the posing, the result screen lines, the characterization, the voice actor etc. He just looks cool and is cool. In sonic boom or anything past 2010's he isn't cool to me. He is just an edgelord. But here he is cool while being edgy bc of 2005 being a very... iiiinnnnteresting time to live when it comes to media and games xD
Also, the taking a candy from a baby is just a neat reference to what eggman says in sa1. This is just 1 of the intentional jokes in shadow 05. For example The line "where's that -- chaos emerald" is a intentionally comedic as well. You can see how they animated exaggerated his face expresion when tails mentions a chaos emerald in that stage, or how he says to tails that chaos emerald belongs to him when you get the hero mission result screen.
Tbh, when you play the game yourself, anything that got joked about how edgy it is in 05 doesn't feel that edgy. It's just kinda funny.
