Great episode. Totally love Lars's observations about getting to a place of harmony with the boat, surrounds and the daily activities. Very motivational and inspirational for me to get there too. Your attitudes are also great. Light but informative. Don't be shy to show us the boat projects and the fixes you do. Thank you all.
One of the best and most interesting videos about a long passage that I've seen, congratulations on your first real voyage. I know that I'm about a year from real-time but a great result all around.
Lars, you totally nailed it about the simplicity and coexistence with the boat and the ocean! I just returned from my first long passage under sail and felt the same things-but your words explained it much better haha. Love sharing this lifestyle with people like you guys :) thanks for being authentic
Aw thanks :) you always hear people talk about that kind of thing. And so it sometimes takes me by surprise when I actually feel it- like 'oh yeah that's what they meant!'
Great passage, and experience !…the T37 seems very comfortable even for crew of 4 adults.. I found Lars’ observation of being freed of the impulse to check phone constantly after a few days extremely profound…I think the term for this mental place you visited is called “peace”…how many people in our “civilized” culture do you think ever reach this place?…thanks for sharing ! Love and respect to all of you! Ashley
Hey Ashley thanks for the message :) Yeah I couldnt believe how long that habit lasted! I guess usually, since it loads, I can sorta convince myself that I did that on purpose. But with no reception (and knowing that), it made me feel pretty insane. And I dont even think I'm that bad! What is the cost of so much stolen attention?
Well thanks to Elon, we’ll be able to focus on unimportant things anywhere in the world soon… i guess I shouldn’t thrash technology , since it’s the thing that allows me the benefit of keeping up on you guys while in landlubber phase… Keep ‘em rolling!…want you to know that I’m considering a tayana 37 for myself…especially after following your most recent adventure…were you really that comfortable with 4 adults on your crossing as video seemed to convey?…
Really enjoyed this video. You have a great talent at balancing out all the elements, beautiful shots, music, commentary, casual interactions and story telling. As an ex-frogger, well done you avoided becoming road kill.
Late to the party this week. What is happening in your life right now is amazing. In a boat your size you are a grain of sand on the Atlantic ocean.Even with all your civilized instruments to help, the ocean has the ultimate power to destroy. The decisions you make in any situation are extremely important. I don't say this to cause worry. I know you make it. I am just trying to picture the exhilaration. Stay safe, I love your journey.
Congratulations on timing such a smooth passage to the Canaries and the small feat of finding "ordinary" but interesting things to say without any hyperbole even while still half seasick.
Well done on the first step. I look forward to following you across the Atlantic. Sailing Atticus uses a larger output alternator to quickly charge the battery, maybe something to look into.
Unless youre already motoring underway, running your expensive diesel just to recharge batteries is generally a poor idea. Even worse is strapping on a larger alternator. Engines and aux parts are designed by the mfg with balance, load and stress tolerances in mind. High output alts represent much greater resistance. Therefore higher fuel consumption, heat and wear/tear. The trick are the mini 2k watt Hondas or equivalent gensets. It's why you see many old salts with them onboard. The downside are the ugly petrol Jerry cans strapped/lashed on deck, but the benefits having a device specifically designed to recharge batteries or run power tools/appliances is worth it. Ps you're learning he hardway (like everybody) why solar should only be considered back up or supplemental.
We've got a 90amp which is as big as we could go without changing belts etc on the engine. The problem here later turned out to be that we had fried the alt because of the boost charge running without a temp sensor...!
can't believe i have only just come across you guys. looks like an interesting crossing 😁⛵️. I'll be watching all your videos back as time allows to get all the tips and tricks for taking my old vessel on a similar journey!🙏
It sounds like your are using an electric autopilot and in the swell it is correcting both ways on each wave. When electronic compass sensors are tilted the bearing changes even though you are pointing in the same direction. Some systems have compensation built-in so correct for the heel. If yours is one of those then it might need calibrating If it's not (I don't think it is) then you might want to have a ply with the sensitivity to try and reduce the continuous corrections which will be consuming large amount of power (and putting unnecessary wear on the system)
Hey Guy thanks for this - yes you're right. I finally got round to playing with the calibrations a few weeks after this video and it reduced the consumption (and noise) a lot!
Really enjoy these videos as they are still "home made" and authentic, not so commercialised like La Vagabonde etc. Also, Alex is totally hot; in a very understated way! Really wish she had an only fans. Keep it real guys, well done.
Thanks! It works pretty well, but to be honest I would invest in as much solar as you can fit before adding one. We probably get a 1-3amps on average throughout the day. So really just slows down the consumption. The brand is great but just a reality of getting power out of wind
@@NavikaSailing This is such good information. I’m refitting for a trip to the southern high latitudes. If you ever make it to Guatemala for hurricane season, the beer is on me. Keep up the great work!

Doug thanks so much for this message :) Wishing you all the best! and we'll keep that in mind for the boat projects
Looked pretty hard at times, but the plan came together in the end. Thanks for taking me along and sharing the trip. 😘😘
Dreamy episode. And well done guys, can't wait to to see more passage videos!
Thanks broski!
Congrats guys. Epic episode. Loved it. Much better than DIY.

Thanks for this message Peter - love that feedback.
Outstanding job on the first leg of your adventure! Stellar crew you've got there.
Thanks! so true they were/are awesome. Can count on them in a crisis
Well done, the 1st step in the Atlantic crossing is the the hardest 👏 👍 👌 💪
Second step to Cape Verde turned out to be the hardest for us!
Well done on the first step. I look forward to following you across the Atlantic. Sailing Atticus uses a larger output alternator to quickly charge the battery, maybe something to look into.
I think Fare isle did the same thing got a larger alternator

Great video!!
Thanks!
Good video, safe journey
Are you running the engine at idle? The alternator needs about 2000 rpm to get the rated output and it falls off fast below that.
Love your videos! What camera do you guys use to film?
We used to have a Canon M50 but a wave killed it so we upgraded to a Lumix GH5 :)
Are you planning on covering a redundancy/back-up list before your departure from the Canaries?
In a video you mean? Im not sure we filmed that. But thinking about and preparing that list has been a two year process!
Great episode 🤙. How is the wind gen working for you, especially at anchor? I’m looking at the same model.

How long did this journey take you?
Ewwwww …. foot cheese on a long off shore sail …. lol …. you are all brave souls …
hahaha. was such a luxury
