This song comes on at a club and people lose their minds. They gotta get on the dance floor.
This song is over 40 years old and it still rocks. Timeless.
Arguably the most iconic bass riff of all time!
You know what song it is just by the bass
Tied with Under Pressure maybe?
My Mom bought Queen's greatest hits when I was a kid and the bass made this an instant favorite. Still remember that first time hearing it which says a lot, not many songs I can say that about
@ The BBeast Nope...that would be "Good Times" by Chic ...no one can ever top it ...in fact Queen was inspired by it.
yeah, also, pink floyds we dnt need no ed, queens under pressure, paul macartney dont say goodnite tonite, , so john got 2 in that short list!.
Every Queen song is your favorite song, until the next one.
They were a great live band, but they were also one of the best ever studio bands. Anything from them you've checked out live, you owe it to yourself to check out the studio versions as well. Bassist John Deacon wrote this one, and it went straight to #1.
This IS the studio recording. It's just a promo version (before MTV hit) of them performing/lip-syncing to it.
One of my father’s friends who lived in London was a huge Queen fan and was one of the funniest people I’d ever known. He didn’t tell anyone, but he had it in his will that this song was to be played at his funeral. He always said he didn’t want people crying and upset at his funeral, and he got his wish. When this song came on at the funeral home people looked shocked at first, but were soon laughing hard.
Cool guy. RIP. 🌹
My father has the same attitude about his (future) funeral. I'm going to suggest this to him!
I love it! I'm gonna add that to my memorial playlist. Thanks!
Top man. I am considering “Going Underground” by the Clash or perhaps “Disco Inferno” being as the wife says that “Ring of Fire” by Johnny Cash sounds too rude!
Lol
This song written by John Deacon hit the top of just about every chart, rock, pop, soul, dance. John played every instrument on the recording and Roger added a drum loop. Brian and Roger didn't like it because it wasn't rock but "dance" music.
Taylor hated it as he thought it was more Disco. He soon changed his mind........
So glad you found QUEEN 👍
This beat is one that has been sampled so much ,and John Deacon ,the bass player wrote it !
Deacon actually got the inspiration of the bass and the beat from Chic, best known for their songs Good Times and Le Freak. Good Times was most famously sampled for Rapper's Delight by the Sugarhill Gang.
@@sjdrifter72 - He also played almost every instrument on the original recording including the funky guitar (not Brian). Roger added a drum loop.
John Deacon is a genius.
This song was bad-ass at the skating rink in 1981.
Haha! you hit that one on the head alright! :)
Oh, hell yeah!
All Skate!
Haha hell yeah!
Yes!
Glad John Deacon is getting the recognition he deserves.❤That proves that every member of a band contributes a lot to every song. Love every member of QUEEN🙌🏾🙌🏾👑❤❤
Loved this song when I heard it for the first time and still love it now. Written by John Deacon. Rumour has it that Brian May & Roger Taylor hated it, but Freddie loved it & said " we are going to record it". Freddie always encouraged John to write & always believed in him.
When John writes a song he will make sure he gets to play some bass!!
Fun fact: Queen members weren't sure if this song should be included in their 8th studio album- The Game. But some dude listened to it and loved it very much. He insisted AOBTD it's a must have in the album. The song reached #1 in US Billboard Top 100 for 3 weeks, 15 weeks in Billboard Top 10, including 13 weeks in Top 5, ranked #34 in Billboard-All Time Top songs and it is Queen's best- selling single- 7 mil copies. Oh, btw: the dude was Michael Jackson.
Played at every wedding reception in the mid-80's.
Freddie supported it from the begining to be on the album
Michael jackson said to release it as a single, but it wasn't that freddie was against releasing it
as a single
Brian
Immediately Freddie became violently enthusiastic and said, "This is big! This is important! I'm going to spend a lot of time on this."
Suddenly we were forced to put out this single because so many stations in New York were playing it.
Roger did a loop, kind of under protest, because he didn't like the sound of the drums recorded that way.
[Freddie] would certainly fight for things he believed in. Like 'Another One Bites the Dust' which was a bit of a departure for Queen. Roger, at the time, certainly felt that it wasn't rock and roll and was quite angry at the way it was going. And Freddie said, "Darling, leave it to me. I believe in this." John had written the song. But it took Freddie's support to make it happen. -Brian May
Glad they took Michael's advice 😍
Actually it was ok as an album cut, but it was MJ who suggested they release it as a single. The guitarist, Brian May, and drummer, Roger Taylor, weren't very keen on the track as it wasn't rock 'n' roll enough for them and too disco. However, Freddie knew the beat would go down great at the clubs he frequented so he championed the song for its inclusion on the album. MJ heard it and convinced them to release it as a single.
I have this album and LOVE it.
John Deacon wrote some of Queen's greatest songs...not just a quiet bassist. Wish he were still involved and hope he's doing well.
I saw a video about 2 years ago and John had a small mob around him about 10 people deep, pushing albums and other things to sign. John looked mortified. At one time he covered his face with his hands. Poor John, he just wants to live a quite family and all Queen fans should follow his wishes. To see him overwhelmed like that was horrible.
@@kerryn6714 Sad to hear that. I think real Queen fans would respect his wishes. Maybe the less serious fans don't get it.
@@JanS1
I agree 100%. It would be exciting to see him but I'd never approach him. Thanks for your reply ✌
Quote: While Freddie Mercury once said of "Another One Bites The Dust": Credit for the song should go to Michael Jackson in many ways. He was a fan and friend of ours and kept telling me, ‘Freddie, you need a song the cats can dance to.’ John introduced this riff to us during rehearsal that we all immediately thought of disco, which was very popular at the time. We worked it out and once it was ready, played it for Michael. Jackson said: “That's it, that's the gravy. Release it and it will top the charts.” The Queen singer added: “So we did and it did.”
Credit to this song goes to John's visit in the studio in New York during recording song Good Times by band Chic which baseline inspired him to write AOBTD
Michael Jackson knew what he was talking about. I can't even imagine two legends like Freddie Mercury and Michael Jackson casually chatting.
Thanks for posting this comment, I never knew about this before. Very cool! Love it when top-tier artists encourage and inspire each other, as the results are usually exceptional.
MJ is not vile he was proven innocent . Jealous s haters want to believe an empathic person like him is evil meanwhile glorify so-called people like Trump
made up story
The whole band were musical geniuses ❤. R.I.P FREDDIE
They were inspired by the bassline from Chic - Good Times. It's probably the most sampled bassline in music history and it's the ultimate disco song. You should react to their music.
Yesss! All hail Bernard Edwards! 👏
Had to go and look at that Chic song and you’re spot on great bass line but not John Deacon’s baseline
@@bobbralee1019 yup.
@@bobbralee1019 Yes but John was inspired by it heavily..:Good Times by Chic is the greatest bassline of all times anyone can tell it by 1 listen, unless you're in denial-lol
@@marcovignologargini6242 Brian took no inspiration from Nile Rodgers...
I was 10 years old when this came out. 😃 I remember my friends and I would go to a friends basement and play Atari - Pit Fall and play this tune over and over 😆
I remember when I first heard this. My brother and I were in riding in the back of our parent's '72 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme and my dad cranked up the audio. All 4 of us were jamming. It was release 1 month before my birthday.
This is a song that first introduces me to Queen. The music played from the summer until fall in my block when I was a kid.🎶🎶🎶😎😎😎
In old school wrestling, this was the Junkyard Dog’s entrance music.
I feel so good that someone else has recognized that
Yup! Probably the first time I ever heard this song was watching WWF on Saturdays.
@@etc7070 Mid South wrestling too bro !
The good ole days
What a tune to have for it! Fantastic, perfect
Sylvester Stallone wanted this song in a Rocky movie. He couldn't have it. That's why we have Survivors The Eye of the Tiger.
I’m okay with that. Eye Of The Tiger obviously isn’t as epic as this classic, but still a good iconic song
@@agoodday4pi agreed. We may not of loved Eye of the Tiger as much had it not been made more popular by Rocky..
@@andyc6542 is weird to think about it
Wow I didn't know that! Still, Eye of the Tiger has is an iconic piece in its own right.
Eye of the Tiger is much more iconic. Played in every stadium everywhere like We will Rock you/ we are the champions
Michael Jackson and Freddie Mercury were good friends in the early 80s and Michael actually encouraged Freddie Mercury to release the song as the next single and he did. It was a big hit on R&B radio and my first introduction to Queen.
I miss Freddie so much 💗
Queen could play and sing the phone book! 😀🎶🎸
You need to listen to Another One Rides the Bus by Weird Al.
Dr Demento :D
LOL I never heard of this one and just reading your post made me laugh!!
🤣🤣🤣yes
@@Stacey7742 I just did! It was great!!
Another one snorts some dust😎
You can’t go wrong with Queen ❤️
This album turned up on a car trip....the best vibes.
Ahhh, John's genius at work here. As Queen's stellar bassist, he didn't write as much as the others, and was generally quieter and shy, but when he wrote? Wow, he came out swinging. He had an affinity for soul and pop music, and it shows in most of his compositions. Fun fact: When this song hit the tops of the charts in the US, many were completely surprised it was Queen and not a soul/funk group working it. Some also assumed the drums were synthesized but Roger just "deadened" the sound to make them as dry as possible to get that classic beat. With Brian's perfectly jazzy guitar (cleverly manipulated to SOUND like synths in that bridge), this is perfection in a song. Such an excellent track and Freddie's sassy performance with these vocals is immaculate! And...HIS STRUT.
Listen to "Dragon Attack"...it's right before AOBTD on The Game. I'm almost afraid to write this, but...I like the former more than the latter.
Absolutely the best band of all time!
Great band for sure
But the greatest band of all time I would say is the Eagles
Agreed. The best ever.
Deaky
This song was a big hit on RnB radio stations as well as Rock stations. The basseline is inspired by "Good Times" by Chic.
Produced by Nile Rodgers
Have you done Queen, Dragon Attack? The bass line is nasty.
Live from Montreal is awesome
That's my favorite Queen song ever. 🐲🐉
I've begging Jay to do "Liar" either live or studio for a least three years but no cigar. Dragon Attack is good too, I'd like see him react that!
@@kerryn6714 yes, Liar live from the Rainbow. Love watching John join in with Freddie singing, and his bass solo. Amazing
@@karenj3611
And seeing John play the triangle! 😆
I just loved watching your reaction! God l love Freddie. Omg…he was a LEGEND. God bless his soul. It’s such a fantastic song. Loved it!!!❤️❤️❤️
“There’s plenty of ways you can hurt a man and bring him to the ground. You can beat him, you can cheat him, you can treat him bad and leave him while he’s down.” So much truth in those lyrics! Great song and great reaction.
I remember trying to "tape" this offa the radio.. wow.. looong time ago!!!
Yes and wishing the DJ wouldn't come in before the end of the song.
WORD! That mess took skills! Kids today don’t understand! 🤣
Lol The good old days 😂. “ Hey! Shut up! I’m trying to record a song!” 😂
This song comes from their album, The Game. It's a great album. I love every single song on the album.
I love your Queen reactions. When I saw your reaction to Bohemian Rhapsody and I could tell how it hit you in your soul like it did all us who heard it for the first time in late 70s. Queen was and is music genius... Freddy .. there was not anyone like him and never been since.
Yeah, I loved his reaction to Bohemian Rhapsody, he had never heard of Queen before that, and his reaction was priceless❤
I just randomly searched "Queen Reaction" and this was posted today! Let's do this! 🤣🙏🎈
To hear their versatility check out "Save Me" another song from the same album (The Game) which I absolutely love
Live from Montreal
YESYESYES
Yeah, it's always good to listen to a studio version and then a live performance - each has its advantages and disadvantages.
I'd love to see you react to George Michael with Queen doing Somebody to Love ;)
He ruled that evening.. with full respect to the incredible rest.. even Brian May was smirking :)
Yeah, George did an amazing job at the tribute to Freddie concert, he stayed true to his own style, but man he knocked it out of the park, I like it as much as the original!
So bizarre that I thought you already reacted to this. My friend and I used to sing the song when we were like 10 years old lol. But you could never get enough of this song
Great reaction. Few Queen songs I’d love you to react to:
- I want it all
- The Miracle
- Too much love will kill you
You’ve got to listen to Freddie’s other works especially with Monserrat Cabelle.
Barcelona in particular
I love your reactions and your enthusiasm for QUEEN songs.
Greetings from Germany.
The bass line was inspired by the band CHIC'S song GOOD TIMES. CHIC'S bassist said Queens bassist was hanging out with them in the studio
@ yousexymf Yes educate them.
Legend has it that John Deacon, the bass player, was in the studio when Chic recorded "Good Times." He shortly afterwards wrote the bass line to this.
ONE CAN NEVER GET EMOUGH OF QUEEN!!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 And that bass, surely is TOTALLY AWESOME!!! 👍👍👍 This is one of my favorites, from them; one of many, though. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
'Crazy Little Thing Called Love', is the sister to this song.
Damn that boy can sang!
Queen will always be one of my favorite bands thanks to my parents blasting it all the time. I wish I could’ve seen them live :/ it’s one of my biggest wishes.
Queen was so POWERFUL and EVERYONE has their record. I use to JUMP double dutch to it
My husband's friends dedicated this song to him on our wedding day.
How romantic!
The greatest showman of all time and still sadly missed...🔥
Fred is just so wicked
In case you don't know, the guitarist is now an astrophysicist and works with NASA
In HS this was one of my hockey team’s warm up songs. It really gets you ready to compete.
I was in 6th grade. We danced to this in our commons room at lunch time. Music IS the soundtrack of my life!
You've barely scratched the surface of the Queen catalog.
1 of my favourite bass lines...& Freddie's vocals are so good.
If you like this bass, then check out Talking Heads "Pyscho Killer"...
Freddie/Queen should be a staple of everyone's life, like bread & water. Period.
Love the bassline in this - John Deacon is SUCH a talented musician - but then so were ALL of Queen. Thanks for the reaction - lovely to hear this one again
Well, when the bassist (John Deacon) writes the song, he gives himself the best part! One of my favourites.
It was so nice to see you so excited to hear this! And, as you said, John inspired a lot of people to play bass with this song. Including me, when I was just a little girl in kindergarten. Eventually I did start to play. And I'll never forget that moment hearing that song and knowing I wanted to be a bass player
my daughter used to request this song every time she got in her dads car when she was like 5
My granddaughter (4 yrs) every time we get in the car “Grandma! Bites the Dust”.
She loves my Halloween Skeleton that sings this song!!
This song is iconic! And the live aid show covered a tiny fraction of their songs, they only had 20 minutes. You really need to do a deep dive into their catalog.
My all-time favorite songs list favors the ballads, especially my top 10. This is one of the exceptions. It's in my top 10 all-time! #1 hit, and well deserved. My favorite part is when they come out of the bridge & the iconic bass line starts up again. CLASSIC!!!
1 of my favorite skating songs we had a routine wit it 🤎🤎✌🏾✌🏾
probably one if not the best known basseline of the entire world a fucking classic....
Happy you reacted on another banger from Queen 🙌🏻!!! Put up the volume immediately 🎶🎵!!Don't wait so long till the next one Jay ✌🏻😊
You won't be surprised at all to hear this song was written by the bass guitarist.
We are the Champions,,,,, The show Must go on,,,,Bohemian Rhapsody,,,, so many more
At 8 years old around 1981, I talked my mom into buying me this on 45 - the other side was another of my faves Don’t Try Suicide.
Dear Javon i can't relax without watch your reactions late at night 🙂👍🇮🇹 thank you bro.
There are over 200 Queen videos available to review. The 6 songs from Live Aid are barely scratching the surface. Start with their early performance at the Rainbow in 1974 and you will see what caught the attention of the music fans
The bassist John Deacon is the one that wrote the song! I read that Freddie liked it so much he wanted to get it just right…practiced it so much his throat was sore afterwards!
Oh I’m excited!! I would have sworn you’d done this one!! Noooo, MANY Queen songs!!! And your reaction is one of the reasons I’ve ALWAYS said studio THEN live! Loved this great reaction! 💙👍✌️
I used to have this as my ringtone and as soon as that baseline started people around me would stop and dance 🤣
Magical!
I had a proper "tune" Beatles ringtone and same thing would happen; it played the whole song, not just the same bit over n over. Also had Amy Winehouse's "Valerie" and that would work too. Ah the good old days of basic phones...
My favorite Queen song is "Staying Power"....another from their "disco" time....it is power driven and I know you'd enjoy it!
Queen, Prince both great live
I saw Queen live knebworth
I'm in the album photo along with the other 100,000 fans
This was played in every club as last song for several years after it came out in the early 80's. I danced my butt off to this song. It's still one of my favorite songs. Ty.
Immediately subscribed because Queen is the best of the best. It's a collaboration of the greatest talents and musicians of all time. Thank you for this great reaction!
Gotta do ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST live at Wembley 1986. Fantastic! First verse is about gangsters & machine guns. Second verse is about a break-up. The third verse is about all the forces trying to bring you down. MJ loved it & encouraged Queen to release it as a single. #1 U.S. and U.K. 👍 Thank you so much!! 😁
This is the first Queen song I ever heard. Loved it immediately.
Dana says- As a kid, the skating rinks used have a game called "Wolf" (think high speed tag on roller skates, where 1 person had to tag everyone out before the song ended to get a prize). They always played this song for the game. Fun times.
When this first came out I bought the 45. I wasn't prepared for "Don't Try Suicide" on the B side. A 45 record back then cost about $1.25
Freddie, loved opera. He realky wanted to do opera, so he finally got together with opera star Montserrat and blow the doors off with her!
Queen is awesome. Glad you're listening to Live And Studio. I loved that you played Adele ~Rolling In The Deep (Official Video)~ but put that same thing in the search bar and you will see where she did a studio version in a small radio station with her headphones on. You'll love it JV
What a very perfect song! You cannot resist, you have to dance and sing.
I loved them in the 80s but hearing this song now that I’ve always loved has given me a whole deeper love for them and this song thank you for reacting to itZ
Love Queen. I have been a huge fan since I was a kid. Their songs bring back so many great memories.
How about April Wine: Sign of the Gypsy Queen or Just Between You and Me. Some Helen Reddy might also be good: I am Woman, Delta Dawn.
Save Me is good too!
Remember this beat, it saves lives... its what you do chest compressions to for cpr.... preferably without singing lyrics, if the patients family is near by.
Their album A Night at the Opera is a masterpiece that should be heard with headphones from start to finish.
I always forget this is a Queen song for some reason. This band was so versatile!
I’d blast this song on my Walkman every time I aced my finals in college, jumping around like an idiot but having a BLAST! ‼️
This song always takes me back to the rollerskating rink. This song was new then. Good times.
Queen the best this single crossed over into the R&B chart's when it was released
Listen to that Bass! ❤️❤️❤️ thank you for bringing us John Deacon in Queen. What a tune 🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
If you want to hear how versatile Freddie’s voice really is. Listen to Just One Year of love and his falsetto voice oh wow Pain Is So Close to Pleasure off the A Kind of magic album. I honestly thought a women was singing the latter but no it’s definitely Freddie singing
The whole album is from the movie soundtrack Highlander
wow I'm surprised you didn't react to this one before. awesome riff. back in the day people who never listened to Queen really thought this was an r&b group.
I want this song to play at my funeral. One of my all time faves.
Hi from the UK as I have said many times , this band are LEGENDS FOREVER 😃😃😃😎😎😎
I grew up with this song, my dad used to have Hot Space album on vinyl in the 80s 😄
