The SNES mini pre-orders went live on Friday at Walmart, within minutes all the SNES Classic systems were gone (Many of which were on Ebay almost immediately like clockwork) and now Walmart is backtracking and canceling them all.

Do you think Nintendo will actually follow through and stock enough to meet demand making everyone happy this time or are we just gonna be playing the game of "History repeats itself yet again"?

Better off making your own SNES Classic with a raspberry pi and a miniature SNES case. You can load all the roms you want and even get an adapter to use your old SNES controllers or just use USB ones. If Nintendo can't supply the demand then I suggest to "Do what You's does what Nintendon't."
Meh , I still preffer to use my notebook + xbox controller + crap ton of different emulators and roms or my Xperia Play with emulators than some small box with poor baby controllers, short cable with only 5 good games in it.

You know if NIntendo stopped being dumb by releasing game systems, Amiibo, and 'Classic' systems in such limited quantities, they could actually make profits instead of pissing people off and artificially increasing the value of these things.
Its actually the reverse. If they stock too much and the extra don't sell, then they will lose a lot of money. In these types of scenarios its better to go on the lower end to ensure all the products sell. As fans we suffer though.

That's what I did. Just gave up after nes classic editions were going for $300. Put together a Raspberry Pi kit and now I'm playing nes, snes, neo geo, playstation, genesis, gba, gameboy games. If Nintendo won't make it convenient, I'll find another way.

I don't feel bad for the scalpers at all. They are human trash. The real losers in all of this are people that just want to play one of these consoles. In the long run if this short stock crap continues more and more people will just say fuck Nintendo.

At least you got an e-mail. When the NES mini came out we had pre-ordered months in advance and when we went up they basically gave us a "fuck you, should of pre-ordered earlier" no refund, no NES mini. And that is the story of why you don't pre-order.

Nintendo isn't at fault here, Walmart didn't put in proper systems to avoid situations like this. They could for example have forced people to pay full price for the pre-order, gamestop Switzerland did it and it works well.

For the premium from scalpers and surprisingly Walmart, would be better off hunting for an original console. Might be close getting one for him, finger's crossed.
Mr Ladz There is the option of taking a Raspberry Pi, getting a NES or SNES shell off the internet, and building your own Classic. It would take a little work, but no scalpers to deal with, and you can put ANY game you want on there.
Yeah i was just looking into that. Sounds pretty cheap to make and not too hard. Might try it out.
PiCade is super easy; you literally just follow the steps for dropping the OS onto the SD card, boot it up, plug a thumb drive in, wait for the light to stop blinking, yank it out, and drop the games into the folders it made for you.
Plus, SNES USB controllers have longer and better cables. And it can run PS1.
I work for this company which only makes me doubly pissed that they canceled my pre-order. Watch, now because of this, that will probably be my only chance to actually get one.
Try gamestop, they added a policy that you need to pay full-price upfront to prevent this shit from happening again, maybe you can still secure one for yourself there.

I need to get the SNES Classic. I don't know about you, but I'm more excited for this than the NES Classic. There are some really good games on this one, including some I've never played. Hopefully, Nintendo will meet the demand.

Preorder went live 15 minutes before I left work, took me 10 minutes to get home and by then all of the preorders had sold out. WELL SHIT!! I need one of these in my life so much, pretty much all my favourite games for that generation in one place.

Snes and Nes is emulator with roms anyway. I am not gonna bother with overpriced small box with 2 short cables for baby and crappy controllers (I have original Snes in my room btw) that would be sold for 10 times bigger price. I will stay with my trusty emulators for everything with xbox 360 controller.

You can still get a pre-order. I did a post on this a couple of weeks ago when I got mine, have the receipt from the store too. Only catch is you need a friend in New Zealand to pick it up and ship it to you.

It's honestly funny seeing Nintendo continually make blunders like this and yet still get away with it due to they huge shares, phenomenon franchises and massive customer base (if smaller companies made mistakes like this, they'll be out of business or at the very least be in bad shape).

A simple search will tell you that I managed to get 5 of them all at different times difference is I gave them to my cousins who were less fortunate and never got one I hate scalpers so I wont stoop to their level.

Oranges yum88 that's what I did. bought a raspberry pi, put retropie on it and preload it with tons of games from nes to snes, gb to gba, genenis and PS1. Plays pretty well.

Walmart is very guarded about letting stuff hit before 'street date'. Yes- they did fuck up.
Every ROM site I know of has taken down all their Nintendo ROMs, so emulation isn't as much of an option, unless you're willing to go to another shady site.

The other thing about the glitch that caused the SNES Classic to go up early, also caused many people's payment information to be rejected even though they ordered on time. In my case, it kept saying my credit cards had a bad expiration date. It was equally botched all around.

Graham Beamish quit making excuses for Nintendo. They underwhelm how many people will buy whatever they sell and will never learn their from their mistakes. Happened with Amiibos, Switch, and the NES Classic to name a few.
Not making excuses, it's their own fault for the lack of supply. PS4 is out-selling switch now because you can actually get your hands on Sony's hardware. If Nintendo were able to sort their shit out and get stock on shelves to the extent that EVERYONE who wanted one could just walk into a store and just pick it up off the shelf (or, ask for it over the counter really), it'd be interesting to see how the figures would stack up then. But that's not going to happen. Sony's decent pricing and the "limited silver and gold" consoles probably helped them too.
Agree with Graham here. If people could walk into a shop and buy a Switch without fighting for it I think the numbers would be very different. It wouldnt last forever but for now the Switch would be outselling PS4 and X1 mostly due to random curiosity.
Graham Beamish One of the reasons why I don't have a Switch yet is because it doesn't really have any games yet. Sure it has Wii U ports but its missing its own IPs. I'm not into the gimmicky games like Arms.

to be fair, at least walmart acknowledged their mistake and sent out everyone an email, and took the blame themselves, didn't blame one single employee, one single division, took the blame on themselves, gamestop wouldn't have given a shit about the whole situation, their apology would've been a single tweet saying "one of our employees fucked up, oh well, your loss, fuck off"

Sometimes it's good to live out in the boonies.. I live in NZ, found out pre-orders for the snes were up, walked into eb games the next day, and found out i was already down for one.. The store clerk had remembered i'd enquired about it a month previous, and put ten bucks from another pre-order down on it..
Walmart always screws stuff like this up. Trust me, I work there. The most frustrating thing is seeing situations in which something is obviously wrong(Switch consoles not coming in for over a month, us NEVER getting games for the PS Vita and then discontinuing because they weren't selling well) and not being able to do anything about it.

To be fair on the Switch, they are competing for parts. Yeah, they are having a hard time keeping stock but it's because they are having a hard enough time actually getting materials to make them. Add in scalpers and yeah, nobody can get stock. The people who want it are gonna buy 1 while scalpers are gonna buy like 5 each.

I wouldn't even blame Walmart. The core of this problem is still Nintendo. Why is it that Sony and Microsoft can meet demand with their products but Nintendo continues to act like they're some small company who can't afford to do the same? Even for fucking amiibo. Little tiny figurines. I had to resort to buying the NFC tag cards for Breath of the Wild. As for the SNES Classic, they say they'll make more but unless they make enough to where people can actually go to a shop and buy it off the shelf like any other product, it's still going to be a failure.

Oh god I'm having PTSD flashbacks to when the NES classic was released. Me and my buds were excited for it, but didn't bother to pre order it. Little did we know it was going to be in such tiny supply. Going to Walmart and trying to get one at Walmart when they first came out was hell. There was only 7 of them. Only 1 of us got an NES classic. We never saw one on shelves ever again. :(

Remember; You can make your own SNES classic with a Rasperry Pi, an Odroid, or nearly any other SOC board. Very easy to do. Just 3d print an 'enclosure' for it. It will be nearly the same shit. Hell you can even get something like Attract Mode to replicate the front-end.

Wal-Mart online has been shitty for over a year and they need to fire the team who is working on it now. There has been many times they had stuff online that when you placed in the cart, the price went up like 10x the price the page had it for (and even proved to friends as I posted pictures from random items they saw themselves on the mobile app). Even in store, they had shirts all priced at one price but when I got to the register, they said no that one is more cause its 2x. They even go to me "Everyone knows bigger sizes are more"....yeah, when marked as the lady who first talked to me tries to take them off the shelf as I snapped pictures of them doing it.

I guess someone in Nintendo watched a documentary about people in Soviet Union waiting in lines for hours to buy toilet paper with only ranfom stock availability and purchase quantity limits and thought how that is totally valid marketing strategy....
I'm sure Wal-Mart screwed up by not putting a limit on how many were pre-ordered.. then they probably lost pre-orders when the site crashed. So instead of fixing it properly they just said "Fuck it.. cancel all of them and start over!"

The preorder thru Walmart was actually up for almost an hour. Made me think they actually had a huge stock of them since it didn't sell out in minutes
All they have to do is cancel the pre orders in which made the transactions on said date of the fuckup. And send an apology letter to not just the ones who got cancelled but to all pre orders cancelled. A small press release and public apology would settle it too. But it still sucks because it takes 5-10 business days to get your bank account refunded, or more depending on where the business's banking is applied for the transactions. But of course there isn't much they can do to appease people who are pretty pissed off abojt their orders being cancelled, only being left with scalpers offering to resell it to them.
I honestly don't know how or why people are falling for this retro-hype. SNES is my favorite console, but I wouldn't spend $5 on one that only had 21games & no cart port. Am I missing something that a laptop packed with emulators from NES-PS1 era can't do but the SNES classic can (besides stealing money and causing hysteria)?
As a fellow gamer, retro gamer nonetheless, I am with you on your frustration with this horrendous shade that Nintendo and their retailers are doing to the consumers. I have fully supported Nintendo since its days of the NES, but my faith in them continues to get shaken with their approaches to these sought after products. I seriously hope they make some changes to these approaches.
It also doesn't help when you don't know when additional preorders are gonna be available and essentially you gotta check EVERY day. I know it was like that with the Mini NES and GameStop.
My pre-order is still processing, even got an email apologizing for a release date change which is news to me, but it's still gonna be processed and shipped. Got a order number and everything...so fingers crossed good luck everybody

Back in 2012 I had pre-ordered my WiiU through Walmart and they cancelled it right before the console came out for no reason on my end. Due to this, I refused to pre-order anything through them, and held back on the 'pre-orders' for the Snes Classic. I'm glad I went with my instinct, but I still feel bad to those who tried to pre-order it.
Based off of this, I'm certain that there aren't going to be enough Snes Classics to appease people, despite Nintendo knowing for a fact that it will sell well from the Nes Classic's sales. We're more than four months into the Switch and Nintendo is having trouble supplying that stock.

The SNES classic is not supposed to be available to preorder, as it is a special "limited time" item. The NES classic was only supposed to be sold for two months as a "Christmas special" for the fans. We saw how that went......
Nintendo is under the impression that if they limit the supply, that demand will grow exponentially. My store is desperately trying to get it through to our corporate (and thus Nintendo) that they need to make the Switch available to at least order (just the console, as we are stuck selling bundles....and we had tons of good customers buy up games and stuff and are just waiting on the console itself).
It seems that ever since the Wii U, where they made way too many units thinking it would sell like the Wii (despite the grumblings from fans about it being a whole new system and the confusion around those E3s), they feel like the western fans aren't good enough to be treated like their japan fans. It's sad really.
Yikes. I feel terrible for all the people who pre-ordered. The SNES is a wonderful system. I still play games on it today.
I remember when they announced the console on Twitter, and I, of course, went to that section.I even clicked on the link to the Walmart page , but I got an error instead.Even though I didn't pre ordered it on said store, because I already put a notification on my Amazon account, so I could recieve an alert that the SNES classic edition is available.Believe me, I have my own concern that I'll being unfortunate of failing to obtain one.Luckily Ebay had enforced their laws against the scalpers and I hope and pray that Nintendo(whether you believe them or not) could manufacture enough until the end of the year.I do feel worse for everyone who got their pre-orders cancelled.I bet a bunch of you guys are die-hard retro video game fanatics and extremely pissed off about it.I hope y'all get the better luck than those who seek the NES classic edition.I don't plan on emulating games, since I never owned one, which is illegal.I would rather pay all the games than feel anxious when emulating a game like Earthbound.

Sorry completely off topic, but a Yakuza 1 vs. 1 fighter, However set up like Ehrgeiz, part 1 vs. 1 fighter you include main characters from all the games, another part could be a colosseum part and the third part could be all the mini games with all the main protaganist. it would be an epic Spin off. ☺

This was the last straw, when I heard about the cancellation emails going out, I ordered a Raspberry Pi. If Nintendo can't do right by their customers, I'm not going to worry about these little emulator boxes any more.
I'm setting up the RetroPie as I type this.
Ugh. I was so happy I was able to nail a preorder in as I care about this waaaaaaay more than the NES Classic. Guess I'm back to the old game....
