Thanks for the updates and insight. I found your video by searching this exact scenario, and glad we can now do it. What is the best way to view the multiview from the USB-C output? I got mine working by launching a Zoom meeting and selecting the ATEM MV Feed which worked, but seems a bit clunky. It was on the same computer that was running the ATEM Controller software, so it then required to switch back and forth. (Much of my real world usage will be using the ATEM controller to do the actual switching, etc. but made me wonder what the best setup would be to do both. Maybe an external monitor on the control laptop to put the MV feed window (currently Zoom) on the external monitor and the control app on the main laptop display?
@aaronpk. If you set the USB out of an Extreme SDI as MV, since it has 2 USBs, don't they both broadcast the MV? In that case how can you record like the PG or whatever input from the other USB? Or is it only one of them that changes to MV? Please clarify. Thanks for all your help. Great job as always.
I'm having the same issue with a second hand ATEM. It's asking for a password to enter the file structure, but nothing is working. I've found no help on forums either. @aaronpk replied earlier about trying "guest" or "anonymous" since there shouldn't be credentials needed. That did not work for me though.
@aaronpk - do you have any updates on the replay functionality? Also: Are you aware of any means to trigger resolve markers from the atem mini or perhaps a streamdeck? Perhaps whilst the recording is in progress and resolve is viewing it?
As a Teams producer, what I want to be able to do is take a presenters webcam feed and overlay lower thirds on it so that others in the Teams meeting can see it.
This is very cool and almost solves one major problem. The HDMI output failure. I have Mini Pro ISO with a dead HDMI output port. So now at lease I can see the multi view but it doesn't help when it comes to seeing all feeds for switching while recording. That is, unless anyone here has ideas on other workarounds? I'm all ears.
And this is why I want to declare my love for the Black Magic design company again. They keep doing amazing things for the lowest possible prizes and really watch everything from a buyer/user position. This adding features to the atem mini pro, of which I think the added multiview possibility without losing the hdmi program feed, is making me promote Blackmagic to others even more.
With FTP, I discovered if I downloaded a file while the ATEM was still recording to it, the file literally became corrupt and unusable. Have you tried downloading a video while it was still being written to? What happens?
I'm not surprised. I haven't tried downloading a file while it's being written to in Finder yet, but part of this update enables Resolve to play back the file as it's being written. Sounds like a good thing to test during the livestream today tho!
Great video as usual Aaron, simple explanation and really useful. Do you think there would be a way to use srt for a MSTeams meeting? My upstream speed is not great, and if srt could improve the stream that would be very useful.
Thanks for such a great and real time coverage, but I was wandering, mainy because we've had a multiple problems with SSD recordings in last year, what SSD's have you been using and recomend for the ATEM MINI Extreme ISO?
Great video. I have a question regarding audio. Let’s say I output HDMI from a Computer running the Zoom meeting into the ATEM Extreme (to ISO record a Zoom guest) while simultaneously outputting a webcam feed from the ATEM Extreme into the Zoom meeting (to use my video and audio feed for the meeting). Would there be audio feedback when the Zoom guest speaks since I am inputting HDMI from Zoom and simultaneously outputting video and audio via the webcam?
Yes, you'll be feeding the zoom audio back into zoom, which isn't good. Zoom's echo cancellation will actually kick in and it will work surprisingly well, but it will mean you won't be heard on zoom when the guest is talking, since zoom will be muting your audio to cancel the feedback. The easiest solution is to set the zoom microphone to a separate audio device rather than the ATEM. So for example you could have your good mic recording your audio being fed into the ATEM, but then use the built in laptop mic to send to zoom, so your guest is hearing different audio than what you are recording. (This only works if your guest needs to only hear you though) Another option is to do all your audio mixing with a separate mixer, which gives you a lot more options, but is also more complicated.
We have the option to disable "fade to black" button in settings. It does what is says. It disables the fade to black button. Im really happy with this feature, but I havent heard anyone about it yet.
@@Yourguitarworkshop I seem to be the very rare person who uses FTB regularly. I did glue a 3D printed guard around the button to minimize mis-press risk.
Nice feature the choice to output Multiview to USB. My old Atem Mini died (no HDMI output anymore) and I just bought a mini pro... Now USB is actually useful... But does anybody know if it's still USB 2 like on my old mini or does the pro have USB 3?
I was hoping to see two webcam output settings on my Extreme ISO. I'd have used one for multiview into the windows camera app and the other for program into zoom on the same laptop. Nice and compact setup. Can you show how to get the SRT setup on RUclips - I don't seem to have that option.
It's invite-only on RUclips at the moment. I did a demo of it in last week's livestream, I'll talk about it again on Sunday, but I'm going to wait to do a full video about it until it's available to everyone ruclips.net/user/livepnqmFvw-wbk?feature=share
does the atem mini pro iso have the network option as well? Looking for a workflow for live editing in real time. You video gives me hope that the pro iso and resolve can do it.
Hi Aaron i do not know if you ever came across this ( Last Saturday i was recording on my atem mini extreme iso on my ssd drives and I realized that i needed more space, so in mid show i plugged another ssd, the recording switched fromm ssd 1 to ssd 2 ok and contiuned normally, but then i could not stop the recording. The stop button was not kind of working. I switched off the mixer but then the recording on second ssd was not there.
A bit hacky, but I think you could do this on the extreme ISO with physical loopback cables. Unfortunately I think you'd be using both your HDMI outs. (Does the SDI ISO extreme have additional auxes? hmm)
I've only done a few demos live, I've been waiting for the replay controller to come out since that's what makes it really useful. It's on my list now but I still have to get a hold of one!
@@aaronpk Thanks Aaron, I’ve just sold my BMD Speed Editor and about to order the replay controller (appears to have all the same functions as the old panel + lots more) so I’m looking forward to watching your full replay demo, cheers John.
I agree that it's great BMD is now bringing a really impressive firmware update for a 4-year-old device. I hope this becomes more common in the industry, but especially within BMD itself. I own several BMD devices, and so far, introducing new features with new firmware has been a bit shaky. And to be honest, this update comes quite late ;-) Not necessarily for SRT, but for features like webcam routing and FTB deactivation.
This is great to know! Thx. Wondering if I can ask a question in regards to not being able to hear the scratch audio on the individual camera files from my extreme ISO. For some reason it’s not recording the audio to the video files. Maybe a video about this?
Yeah that's just how it works. The video files unfortunately get the program audio. But there are also separate wav files recorded with the audio from each input.
Just wish the 4 port models supported using a USB hub, or do they? Really hope for a 2110 atem though. And a micro g2 with 2110 instead of SDI. And recording directly to third party nas.. can that be done with any atem or bmd recorder? Also on the website the new controllers don't say they come with a free studio license. The speed editor does, new Replay editor doesn't?
It'll be really interesting to see where they go with the 2110 products! The Hyperdecks can record to third party network storage now. I've been recording to my Cloud Pod but when I go to set it up it shows me all the NAS drives on my network.
@@aaronpk that last one is lovely. Great step forward, last time I checked their network storage wasn't up to par to third party devices security wise. But haven't seen if that has changed. Next step online collaboration with a third party nas on my network as the cloud storage solution 😎 don't tell me that is possible too?
Thank you @aaronparecki for the update. Question: I have updated the firmware on my Atem Mini Extreme ISO and now it is running the 9.5 v But I do not see the "webcam" outputs as demonstrated in your clip. What am doing wrong?
Go to ATEM software control (on a Mac) at the top left bar, select connection, select ATEM setup and select the left icon lower down to update the ATEM. Think that covers it!
One Thing I would Like to do is to be able record the callers on my zoom call as well as the slides or videos I am displaying to them. Do you have a work around for that?
Have they fixed the recording to SSD on the Mini Pro yet? I had to roll back to V8.3 to get it back. All versions since until recently fail to record to SSD over USB.
We have many ATEM Extreme ISOs. What SSDs would you recommend for use with long recordings? We have tried multiple different SSDs (e.g. Samsung T5 1TB) and have had recording failures with all of the drive models.
so to verify: the chapest ATEM Mini Pro can have Program on HDMI and MultiView over USB webcam into full screen VLC? while streaming Program over Ethernet as well? AND have MV borders removed? Thanks.
Have you tried to use the ATEM webcam output as an input to an iPad (Pro, Air, etc., that has USB-C)? I've tried using Orion, Shoot, and Camo Studio and it doesn't see the input coming out of our ATEM Mini Extreme ISO.
It's worth noting that SRT is not about lower latency at all. To achieve better resiliency you just need that extra buffer somewhere. So - arguably - under normal circumstances it always has higher latency over RTMP.
technically true, but in practice the unreliability of RTMP means you have to add latency to make it reliable, so you can get effectively less latency with SRT. I explain more of the details of the protocols in the video I linked in the description.
And the ability to break the ATEM Mini Pro. As after the update and firmware update the software control will not connect to the ATEM Mini Pro. Not sure how to report the bug/BlackMagic didn't test it! I had to downgrade it to get software control to work again. This was with 9.5.1 (didn't try 9.5). Got it working again with 9.4.
I've heard of at least one other person this happened to. You should write to blackmagic support and provide your serial number. I suspect it only happens to ATEMs manufactured within certain dates so this would help them track it down
Interesting . . . could one [using an Atem Extreme] send BOTH usb-c outs [from the Atem] to Ecamm (to create two separate virtual cameras [atem 1, atem 2]). Would this allow/create a split screen picture [atem 1/atem 2] on Ecamm Live? Previously, Ecamm simply recognized the single usb-c feed coming from Atem as a single virtual camera. If so, this would be useful when you have a presenter and 'in-studio' guest. This would be more flexible with Ecamm's internal screen modular abilities than coming up with differing sizing and manipulation of supersource in Atem Extreme. Just a thought.
Great job, Aaron! Question for you. When I try to upgrade my ATEM SDI ISO extreme To 9.5, the install fails and tells me to uninstall the previous 8.8 version. I don’t see anyone else having that problem. Am I missing something?
is that happening when you're installing the software on your computer or running the firmware update? If I remember correctly, on windows you have to uninstall the previous software first. on Mac you can install it on top of the old one.
Question: im using the extreme iso and after a shoot the ssd shows 1 davinci file on mac but the same ssd shows 2 davinci files on windows. 1 is invisible on mac. The one that is shown is missing the iso files in the project and everything shows red with a message missing media… same file opened on windows does the same buy the one that is shown on windows actually opens up everything. The question is: how am I supposed to open the davinci project file on a mac with all the iso files imported into their bins for cam 1 cam 2 etc.?
You know what is still hounding me about the ATEM Mini line? They still haven’t done anything with the “Sting” button. 🤨 nonetheless very grateful for this massive update.
Does this mean I can get the base Pro model to plug multiple cameras and use a software cam switcher in Ecamm to swap between the cameras instead of needing the ISO?
There's two more things I want in my ATEM Mini Extreme ISO... being able to stream at 720p not just 1080p... and being able to choose between CBR and VBR. Give me those 2 things and I’ll be extremely happy and my ATEM will be the perfect streaming device.
Is it possible to record all cameras at once in the ATEM MINI PRO? I see the option is available in the software I downloaded but it is greyed out. I record into a desktop if that matters. TIA!
Goddammit BMD, i just brought EXTREME switcher because mini pro dont have other output for multiview. this.. changes everything. The delay does not matter that much if you just do simple talk program mostly.. but.. thank god I enjoyed ATEM Extreme. Yeah, some program I attend they expect us to provide program OUTPUT for them but this update is what ATEM needed since the is too much competitor on switcher that do way better than ATEM Mini Pro on "entry level". with this update will bump up their value.
I'm testing SRT stream from ATEM Mini Pro to ATEM Streaming Bridge over internet and have it working. It did require port forwarding on the Bridge side, which I think is the listener. One thing I don't understand: The Mini Pro has a field for Passphrase but there is no field for that in ATEM SB's setup. Number one, is this stream already encryped by the Blackmagic software? And two, if not, how would I get that passphrase from the switcher into the SB so that it's encrypted end-to-end? Can I add parameters to the srt://listnerIP:port text that would tell the Streaming Bridge what the passphrase is?
Update. SRT is not fully OK with motion content from a camera. It takes about 3 seconds for the camera image to fully come through after a cut from graphics. I don't see any difference if I add a longer latency value in the SRT url on the Mini Pro. RTMP seems to function fine, with no breakup on a cut.
Update. Blackmagic Support says the ATEM Streaming Bridge is not yet updated to the same 9.5 software version that provides full SRT support. They ask for patience :-).
I now understand the "atem mini extreme iso" files can be loaded as replay for resolve, however can the "atem mini extreme" video files be imported even though its just one video file?
I think so but would have to actually test. I'm pretty sure that if you're at least recording in the highest bitrate then it would be the same as the ISO files.
That's how the hyperdecks work, they can record to a NAS now. The fact that they didn't add that feature to the ATEM Minis in this update makes me think it isn't possible. I don't see why they would launch this update and hold off on the NAS feature.
Question: with the mini pro iso example, if you are using the usb port to send out your clean camera to zoom how are you sending your slide/pip program feed to zoom? Are you streaming directly to zoom from the atem or using the program hdmi out port and converting it somehow??
@@aaronpk when you are doing a presentation in zoom to do keep the ‘shared screen’ active for the entire presentation? Is there a clean and non-jarring way to go between camera view and shared screen view in zoom?
When you're sharing your screen in Zoom, people see your screen and camera separately at the same time. So you don't need to bother switching because they will always see both. Zoom also handles compressing the camera feed and screen sharing differently, optimizing for smooth video vs crisp text. So if you try sharing your slides using the webcam input into Zoom your viewers will see just blurry text. That's why you always need to use the native screen sharing feature in Zoom instead.
Got it. Thank you. I film events where a person is presenting on stage to an audience with PowerPoint slides projected on the wall behind them. I send this all live to zoom as a zoom webinar. My typical sources at these events are a video feed of the slides (split feed on the way to the projector), a wide camera and a tight camera (from the back of the room). My typical screen/scene layouts are wide cam, tight cam, slides with pip (tight cam as pip) and slides only. I’m using ecamm currently to create these. Can I somehow use ‘screen sharing’ while using the above scenes to improve the resolution of the slides and video?? Thanks Aaron. Your videos are amazing and I always have them on when driving around Melbourne.
The replay feature works with either: • Hyperdeck recording to network storage (Cloud Pod or Cloud Store) • ATEM Mini recording to an SSD The way it works is you mount the network storage (Cloud Pod/Store or ATEM Mini) on the computer to access the files. So the new update is that the ATEM Mini SSD can act like network storage.
Is possible to stream SRT from Atem mini pro ISO and record to SSD at the same time? So if I buy SRT ingest server to OBS.... I can stream live to youtube from my pc at home, send the feed from Atem by SRT to home PC , and save all the cams connected to Atem on SSD?... I would love to live stream event but also record everything on SSD and edit it later. (iwithout buying extreme xD)
Not to mention this means for the one HDMI ATEM Pro series you can send Program out on HDMI and still see the Multiview!

Have they fixed the color on the usb output or is it still extra contrasty?
Also would be nice to see youtube ingest SRT with h.265 and AV1 for much better and stable streams as I cannot find out if they will be doing so
And this is why I want to declare my love for the Black Magic design company again. They keep doing amazing things for the lowest possible prizes and really watch everything from a buyer/user position. This adding features to the atem mini pro, of which I think the added multiview possibility without losing the hdmi program feed, is making me promote Blackmagic to others even more.
I couldn't tell if this covers the ATEM Mini Extreme or only the ISO variants.
Very nice updates indeed
(This only works if your guest needs to only hear you though)
Another option is to do all your audio mixing with a separate mixer, which gives you a lot more options, but is also more complicated.
We have the option to disable "fade to black" button in settings. It does what is says. It disables the fade to black button. Im really happy with this feature, but I havent heard anyone about it yet.
what would be the purpose of disabling the FTB button? I don't use it often but am curious what the benefit is of disabling it.
the button is really easy to accidentally press
@@aaronpk ah ok, I have my atem out of my way and use the streamdeck primarily so I never touch the atem during the stream.
ps I use streamdeck + companion so use that to "push the buttons"
@@Yourguitarworkshop I seem to be the very rare person who uses FTB regularly. I did glue a 3D printed guard around the button to minimize mis-press risk.
Thank you, Aaron!
Nice feature the choice to output Multiview to USB. My old Atem Mini died (no HDMI output anymore) and I just bought a mini pro... Now USB is actually useful... But does anybody know if it's still USB 2 like on my old mini or does the pro have USB 3?
Great video for a great update !
It'd be great if they had options for the ISO version to record a multiview and preview feed. I could see some scenarios that itd be useful.
A bit hacky, but I think you could do this on the extreme ISO with physical loopback cables. Unfortunately I think you'd be using both your HDMI outs. (Does the SDI ISO extreme have additional auxes? hmm)
Aaron, are you still planning to do an in-depth piece on the new Instant Replay feature? Or have you done it already and I missed maybe?
I've only done a few demos live, I've been waiting for the replay controller to come out since that's what makes it really useful. It's on my list now but I still have to get a hold of one!
@@aaronpk Thanks Aaron, I’ve just sold my BMD Speed Editor and about to order the replay controller (appears to have all the same functions as the old panel + lots more) so I’m looking forward to watching your full replay demo, cheers John.
AAron I’m this setup does the zoom callers see the presentation as well or just you talking about the slides..
@@fortygreen Thank you kindly. I have it working properly now. Merci
Thanks.
Great and super current info
Nice information. thanks.
One more update that ATEM mini needs is dual super source. Have that and all is perfect
Hi thank you for the video
how I can take usb c to output from my Atem mini pro to a monitor ?
Have you tried to use the ATEM webcam output as an input to an iPad (Pro, Air, etc., that has USB-C)? I've tried using Orion, Shoot, and Camo Studio and it doesn't see the input coming out of our ATEM Mini Extreme ISO.
Would you judge this a good 4k setup? ATEM 1 M/E Constellation 4K plus ATEM Micro Panel plus three (3) Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K G2
Yeah that's solid, do you need streaming too? Because then you'll need to add a Web Presenter
@@aaronpk Yes! The Blackmagic Web Presenter 4K. Thank you Aaron - appreciate all you do sir!
@@aaronpk you're right if you consider the BMD ATEM implementation of the RTMP sink specifically. It's not a "general rule of thumb".
I suspect it only happens to ATEMs manufactured within certain dates so this would help them track it down
My Atems looks like new now! 🙂
That's interesting, but I don't think so. There's only one "Webcam Out" setting even though there are two USB ports.
I chose multiview on the webcam but nothing shows, any idea why? i have the atem mini pro iso
Thanks, Aaron! That makes sense!
🤨 nonetheless very grateful for this massive update.
i know right??
TIA!
That feature is in the "ISO" models of the ATEM Minis.
How long should I be looking at a dialogue box saying "Please don't unplug the switcher while updating---- 99%"
Goddammit BMD, i just brought EXTREME switcher because mini pro dont have other output for multiview. this.. changes everything. The delay does not matter that much if you just do simple talk program mostly.. but.. thank god I enjoyed ATEM Extreme. Yeah, some program I attend they expect us to provide program OUTPUT for them
but this update is what ATEM needed since the is too much competitor on switcher that do way better than ATEM Mini Pro on "entry level". with this update will bump up their value.
My ATEM Mini Pro doesn't show up as a camera in Quicktime, what am I missing? Using a Mac. Thanks.
Worked it out, USB from ATEM back into MacBook and then it shows up! Thanks
Do you think BM could make so you could do the ISO recordings over the ethernet connection to a computers hard drive?
That's how the hyperdecks work, they can record to a NAS now. The fact that they didn't add that feature to the ATEM Minis in this update makes me think it isn't possible. I don't see why they would launch this update and hold off on the NAS feature.
@@aaronpk Thanks for the response. It would be great if they could do it as I have an Atem Mini Pro ISO with only 1 usb port.
I wasn't able to get a custom SRT stream to work. It may only work to you tube right now.
You should be able to enter a full SRT URL into the field. I've sent an SRT feed to my Magewell Pro Convert in the studio now too.
Does the ATEM mini pro do 4 channel recording, or just the mini pro iso, which is $500, not $300?
The 4-channel recording feature is the "ISO" label, so the ATEMs with "ISO" in the name have that feature and the others don't.
Question: with the mini pro iso example, if you are using the usb port to send out your clean camera to zoom how are you sending your slide/pip program feed to zoom? Are you streaming directly to zoom from the atem or using the program hdmi out port and converting it somehow??
USB webcam from the ATEM is just for camera, my slides are shared in Zoom via normal computer zoom screen sharing from the computer.
Does this replay feature work with any decent SSD or must you have a hyper deck??
The replay feature works with either:
• Hyperdeck recording to network storage (Cloud Pod or Cloud Store)
• ATEM Mini recording to an SSD
The way it works is you mount the network storage (Cloud Pod/Store or ATEM Mini) on the computer to access the files.
(iwithout buying extreme xD)
yeah streaming and recording at the same time is definitely possible!
I see my Atem is my network but it asking for credentials and I have no clue since none of mines is working.
try connecting as "guest" or "anonymous", there are no credentials
@@aaronpk It seems that once I went to the ATEM Setup -> Storage and clicked "Show in File Explorer" that I gained access.
Come on, it’s a long time to release new prosumer Atem, not another update! What are they waiting for? 🤨
