Would muay thai be good enough in self defense or should I also train bjj?

Both are ideal in my opinion. Both offer great advantages. For me the best things from Muay Thai are getting comfortable being hit so you don’t lose composure. And clinch fighting.
For BJJ, if you train it for a year, against an untrained opponent you’ll always win on the ground if you’re both down.

You have to remember that fighting isn't self defense so knowing muay thai or bjj will have no use if you're attacked with weapons or multiple attackers. Both arts are fantastic for the ring but there's a big difference for the street. Lee Morrison, Nick Drossos, Carl Cestari , David James and Kelly McCann are excellent instructors for self defense.

Why not just to switch stance to Southpaw?

That's another option that's popular nowadays with all the stance switching combos, but remember when you fully switch your stance you're opening your body to their power leg and you're slower than if you can get a quick switch kick off and you remain in your power stance. Also, I tell my students and fighters that you need to master your fundamental stance before you start throwing in switching stances. Just my opinion and experience with it.

Are you saying for a pro muay thai fighter to kick me? I work with pro fighters as well sir. I'm aware of the power and technique.
