5 Ridiculous College of Winterhold Plot Holes EXPOSED by Dagoth Ur

- Dagoth Ur is back with his famous sermons. This time, he is exploring the similarities between the Harry Potter Movies and Skyrim's College of Winterhold. The coincidences are a little bit too much to ignore. Dagoth Ur explores the similarities between the College of Winterhold questline and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets specifically. I have noticed the similarities between Savos Aren and Dumbledore on many occasions, as well as with Voldemort, Snape, and Umbridge and the Thalmor Ancano. They are way to similar to each other.

I think the College of Winterhold takes student safety more seriously than Hogwarts. Granted that is a very low bar.
i agree its a VERY LOW bar... but seriously student safety ? 4 apprentices have died on college ground (binding a dremora pirate) and one other allegedly almost destroyed winterhold and became a glowing ball of light? lol 4 others have died due to their own experiments away from the college, and no one knew what happened to them even .. the ones we go searching for... and then we have the ones who went to the labyrinthian with savos, at that time they were only apprentices as well ... they all died ! except for savos ... though i think that might be his reason for not wanting others to make the same mistakes.. and why safety is such an issue for the college ;)
time and time again their safety policies fail miserably
@@MarvinuserConsidering how many ghosts there are in Hogwarts, I doubt its any safer than the College of Wintherhold...
oh i don't doubt that im just saying none of those two are truly 'safe' for either of our protagonists, given their current situation in each of their stories
Winterhold may have a slippery icy bridge but at least it tells you to stay OUT of places like the midden instead of sending you there for detention, or allowing teachers to literally torture students as punishment or organize challenges that employ psychological warfare and fake kidnapping of the students' families.
Tolfdir: "The Psijiics have no connection to these ruins. Perhaps we should take a look inside these coffins-"
Me: "Why?"
Tolfdir: "Be careful, who knows what we're going to find?"
Me: "I do. We're going to find draugr. Why are we looking inside the coffins?"
RIpoff or no, the fact that the College was led by a Dunmer and things went to crap the second he died shouldn't surprise anyone. Some rogue Telvanni needs to show them how isolationist wizards REALLY live.
Neloth wants to know your location
Here's the funny thing, though. From their last names we can assume that Savos is a descendant Nirasa Aren, whom lived in Sadrith Mora as a retainer of House Telvanni. Therefore its not a great leap in logic that Savos IS a rogue Telvanni wizard!
Technically it went to shit before he died.
7:07 As The Snile Scribbles: Skyrim Paraody put it:
"The Mage's College suffered the Great Collapse like 80 years ago. Conjure up a friggin' hammer already and fix the God damn bridge".
It is an utter absurdity that a sword-swinging drunkard in heavy armor, who's only spell is candlelight, can somehow become the Archmage of the College of Winterhold. I went to his chambers the other day to tell him about another dangerous rupture opening and he called me 'milk-drinker' then threw one of Shalidor's priceless works at my head!
On the other hand, the simplistic methodology would probably make sure the bridge and Winterhold be rebuilt, since to every time another academic there tried something, he would Thu'um them back to work
Give him SOME credit!
He also knows how to cast Healing.
I kinda get it. The job really seems to boil down to "Rock a neat robe, and let the college run itself well you chill in your quarters". Pretty sure it's even stated that the practical second-in-command is the one actually running the place. A braindead Nord who's only magic trick is bucket-powered flight really isn't any different from Savos "Just let things play out" Aren.
Have you tried not being a milk drinker?
@@Umbra_Ursus The Orc N'Wah even said that nord would do the sorting himself of the problem of stolen books. Aren did not lift a finger to solve the situation, according to the Orc, saying "let these things sort themselves out"
"Ancano is Snape. Ancano is also Voldemort, and heck Umbridge too while we're at it. Basically Ancano is everyone mean in Harry Potter, and since Harry Potter invented the concept of a mean guy, you can clearly see that this is a ripoff."
Lol
Worst part of the whole questline is that we never found out what Ancano was doing. It was so very convenient that we found the eye of magus after hundreds of years, and that Ancano happened to know how to use it.
I completed this quest on my last playthru without casting spells. I used Spellbreaker for Tolfdir's demonstration. I used shouts for the Sarthal Boss and tuning the Dwemmer device. Completed like a True Nord N'wah Himbo.
This Honors the Sixth House and the Tribe Unmourned
Is this how you honor the Ministry of Magic, and the House unmourned?
not having to know levitate spell to even enter the "college" is laughable. even the weakest Telvanni could annihilate all of the "wizards" from Winterhold in a blink of an eye.
The college at Winterhold isn't developed enough as either a place or a questline to compare it to any fictional magical school. At least Oblivion's arcane university had you go through the barest of motions of being a student
Not to mention how Labyrinthian is the Triwizard Tournament's all three tasks put together. First you gotta get past a dragon that is guarding the entrance/golden egg, then you have a long dungeon crawl looking for 4 comatose people on the bottom of the lake / Savos Aren's ghost party, and the entire thing happens in a maze.
Oh, and of course, N'wah wizard quest breakdown, please Lord Dagoth
Dang, I missed those. The similarities are becoming impossible to deny
The Maze is a seperate area unrelated to Savos and the ghosts that you can visit before Savos dies, so no, this one isn't 100% accurate. But the Maze is still located at Labyrinthian so chances are it was still inspired by the Tournament. Just thought I'd clear that up.
N'wah wizard quest breakdown, Father Dagoth
Savos just want to stay in his chambers to smoke some arcane joints lol. Everything seems to happen around him and he is like yeah go do that and give me space to blaze my skunk please!
In the College's defense: It gives us a dragon priest mask for our collection, and Brelyna Maryon. As a dwarven-plated battleaxe enthusiast who's only magic trick is heals, the place is more than worth running though.
Agreed, Brelyna's the only saving grace. Keening would've been nice if it wasn't bugged to Oblivion.
N'wah wizard quest Breakdown! :D
I find this both grand, and intoxicating.
Imagine if after everything you seal away the orb the monks are gone you walk outside and everyone is standing there alive and well and they just go suprise, it was all a test your not a student
100 points to Gryffindor
@@ZakeandZach dumbledoor himself walks up to you and introduces you into the one of the four houses, interesting how there are two buildings for student lodgings both with two floors equaling four separate sleeping areas, kinda like the hogwarts houses 🧐🧐
"The Sixth House is risen and lord Dagoth is its glory!"
N'wah wizard quest breakdown!
Now if only they had ripped off Redwall... oh well, there's always ES6.
N'wah wizard quest breakdown, regale us with your wisdom lord Dagoth. It would honour the sixth house and the tribe unmourned.
While it may be a rip off. I get to kill a Thalmor dog at the end of the quest line. And I do believe that that act may indeed Honor the Sixth House and the Tribe Unmourned.
I do as asked, Lord Dagoth, or the glory of the Sixth House and the Tribe Unmourned! "N'wah Wizard Quest Breakdown"!
I think the only part I truly hated about the College's questline is the recurring Aftermath quest. So. Many. Damn. Portals. It's a wonder the Eye didn't cause another Dragon Break. Thank you for the video, Lord Dagoth!
I just wish the college of winterhold was more interactive and have better quest. After completing it all… I’m just given the tittle arch mage is.. way anticlimactic
In fairness, The Dragonborn is just as useful in the official capacity of Arch-Mage as Savos Aren was; I did like the Savos’ character though.
Dagoth Ur discovers YA tropes and the Hero's Journey
As a scholar I have studied those a decade before. It goes beyond that lol. It's too similar.
@@ZakeandZach it would perhaps be overly generous to assume Todd and Co havent seen/read Harry Potter and hadnt been at all conciously or unconsciously influenced
Story beats are one thing - YA leans into a lot of these. But Pagliotamagotchi ripped off entire personalities and cast them in the same order.
Competent but aloof second in command who doesn’t share all the info
Flighty headmaster in his tower, being bad at his job, though we are assured of his power all the way til he dies.
J’Zargo as Quidditch Ron; Brelyna as the smart hardworking bookish housemate
And on and on and on.
@@editorrbr2107 OH NO FARM TOOL RON AND DUNMER HERMIONE?
I knew it had intentional Harry Potter references, but honestly I never thought about it this much. Dang. It's like a really bad Harry Potter rip off.
The College needed Mustrum Ridcully running it
I would gladly use the rule of cool to absorb that Eye of Magnus instead letting the Psijic order taking it
Noah wizard breakdown and great video by the way
N’wah wizard quest break down on the parchment down below but why would you want to subject yourself to that sermon?
N'wah Wizard Quest Breakdown
Dagoth told me to honor the six houses and the tribes. So i turn all the dunmer in shivering isle into sweeterolls.
Isn't that good nerevar? Dagoth?
As much as I love Dagoth Ur. I think the theory about Harry Potter and Winterhold being similar is a stretch. Yes the idea of magic academy is probably similar, but the rest are coincidences based on a school setting. Yes Winterhold questline isn't top writing or anything, but is no different to the other storylines.
Nwah wizard quest breakdown
I can hear Shalidor rolling on who knows where he is.
1:16 Didn’t expect to see my character in this video haha. I posted those pics on my old reddit account.
I'll credit you in the description
Actually Dumbledore didn't really force Harry to do all the thing he did in the movie like in the movie he chose to sing the chamber of secrets, he chose to go after the sorcerers stone as an example
There’s an amazing magic duel mod that does Harry Porter stream clashing well.
First here Lord Dagoth. Do I honor the Sixth House and the Tribe Unmourned?
Yes
POV: you discover standard native structure
The college is horrible and nobody can change my mind on that.
Nords are already weary of magic and then the college basically destroyed winterhold, which ironically pre collapse was probably the most accepting city of magic in Skyrim. To top it off they had the audacity to lie about it and not help the now demolished city in any way. Even on the slim chance they didn’t cause it, least they could do is help rebuild both their college and the town. Shalidor built the city with a flick of his hand, surely a whole college worth of wizards could at least repair a few fucking cabins.
Gotta love too that totally not Hogwarts over here has a grand total of 1 mission that actually requires you to use magic and it’s the intro mission that you have to block a singular spell with a ward. Rest of the questline you can just run around with a damn battle axe and the extent of your magic knowledge being novice level spells and they’ll still name you arch mage.
It’s a joke honestly, should at least give you the option to decline arch mage in favor of Tolfdir to save some of that godforsaken school’s dignity.
You can actually do it with Spellbreaker, I think, and therefore not actually have to cast a ward.
If your Speech is high enough (maybe 100 is required), I think you might not even have to cast a spell to get into the college.
@@brandonjames412 I forgot about spell breaker lmao. There’s a Breton armor mod I use too that has a sword that does a similar effect to that shield. Being able to pass through that blocking with a fucking sword would be 10/10 comedy tbh.
And yeah you can speech check at the gate I think, but you can also just do any shout and they’ll let you in. Not really sure shouting counts as magic or not
@@brendan9868 We'd have to go to the judges on that one; I'd probably consider it magic because there are spell-like effects (sometimes) and shouts can also be learned by non-Dragonborn, so I'd say it's a type of magic. I wouldn't get into a vigorous debate about it if someone said it's not magic, though.
@@brandonjames412 fair enough guess it is kinda magic. To my knowledge using the staff of magnus on dragons does prevent them from being able to shout, so it being magic makes sense.
Oh and if you were wondering, I tested that sword from that mod i mentioned and it worked for the intro mission lmao. Wasn’t as good as spellbreaker and took a bit before he was willing to shoot the spell at me, but yeah passed through using a fucking greatsword.
Something something something, N'wah Wizard Quest Breakdown, something something something, Honor the Sixth House and the Tribe Unmourned.
Basically
I'm sorry, Daddy Dagoth, but this one feels a little-half baked. You been hitting the skooma especially hard?
I got a Harry Potter ad now 😭
N'Wah wizard quest breakdown.
As for the reason Lord Dagoth merely so that we can honour the Sixth House and the Tribe Unmourned by giving thee more reason to enlighten us with your godly wisdom. Plus, it may just enrage some N'wahs in the process, which is always a boon.
I have been waiting for this and I'm thankful for all the hard work we witness. Like for the Sixth House, subscribe for the tribe unmourned.
Also, I still question myself about one thing: how in the Oblivion those mages transported this giant orb if the magic degraded gradually and College's teachers don't have any sensible knowledge or common sense?
P.S., I wonder if someone decided to use this "Eye of Magnus" thingie to wipe out the whole Skyrim. Or maybe Harkon should have used it to deal wtih the Sun. Still much better than chase after some nonsense prophecy for millenias
I think that can be forgiven.
Tolfdir remained in Saarthal and is a Master Trainer in Alteration who also sells Telekinesis. Savos Aren can also be presumed to know Telekinesis, though I don’t think that even matters because the spell doesn’t really seem to care about weight as long as the item isn’t attached to anything and isn’t a living being.
Also, the Eye of Magnus might have allowed itself to be transported as the events surrounding the quest happened as they must. Once in its place to fulfill the intended order of things, it would no longer allow itself to be moved around until the appropriate time and by the appropriate people, The Psijjic Order.
How? The Psyjic Order are mages of a whole new scale. They make their island disappear for centuries, then it shows back up in a wholly different place. I'd say, moving a ball of raw power isn't anything big to them.
N'wah wizard quest breakdown
N'wah fetch quest breakdown O'wise Lord Dagoth. Bestow upon us your sleepers wisdom so our eyes will be wide as we lucid dream your teschings!
I really disliked the college ... That and the fact that magic has become so useless aside from the tier two magic that makes everything flinch.
Comparing Ancano to Snape?
Hmmmm... Nope. Nope. Do not like that!
If anyone were close to being that Piss Elf Ancano it would be the Piss Human Lucius.
There is a similarity
N'wah wizard quest !!! Dude this really sucks. I see every one of them. I always thought the college questline was too short. But it's not even original.
Yep
I'm just mad that the Psijic monks are immune to damage
That means I can't pickpocket their robes!!
Lord Dagoth, bless your interdimensional fans! Give a hi to your followers from Salvador, Bahia, in Brazil.
I love these videos. "Parchment below" and "sermons" they make me lose brain cells for sure. But entertaining nonetheless
I've been looking forward to this sermon for quite a while.
Thank you, Lord Dagoth!
i honor the six house and the tribe unmourned, tnx Lord Dagoth
I have to thank you for these videos. I found your channel recently and it is a ray of sunshine in this cruel desolate world. 🙌
Thank you!

N'wah wizard quest breakdown, Daddy D Dagoth
Eel Spaghetti really did ruin this game. Factions used to be a fun sideline in TES.
Thank you for this sermon, Lord Dagoth.
I was living in a grand and intoxicating innocence because I’d never seen any Harry Potter movies, nor had I read any of the scrolls detailing the adventures. I only knew that it was about a bunch of second-rate Magic wielding N’wahs and that the movie starred at least one mongrel dog of The Empire.
But, I am now enlightened. You make a convincing case that, at a minimum, Emil Paglaglatori was heavily inspired by the series. Of course, he is an N’wah, so should be forgiven for his grand and intoxicating innocence. Perhaps he will serve better as an ash zombie if it suits you to have one of your followers transform him into such.
N'wah wizard quest breakdown, please!
Also say what you will about the College of Winterhold, but at least nobody was bullied and harassed for playing wizard quest.
I think we should change this (/hs)
I disagree about Ancano being a double agent. Snape was thought to be a villain and turned out to be a hero (sort of). Ancano was thought by everyone to be suspicious and they were right.
If Pagiliogoocho could write a sympathetic Thalmor, he’d have ripped that off too.
Bless us with your sermon on the N'wah wizards.
I detest foul sorcery.
Bethesda might have hoped so, but, like so many other inevitably vestigial efforts, the College of Winterhold isn't even a pale shadow of Hogwarts. It should have been done as a DLC all its own, if it was to be done right. =9[.]9=
They ain't sh#t against a proper telvanni wizard
To be fair, the entire TES franchise is older than HP by at least five years. And it's much more expansive. ELDER SCROLLS FOR LIFE! -It's also not written by an ableist terf but we won't go there-
The age of the franchise is irrelevant when Skyrim is younger than Harry Potter, and the College of Winterhold is in *SKYRIM*
I thought the feel to the College was more Indiana Jones
Dear diary, today Dagoth Ur liked something I wrote. I think about fulfillment in my life a lot, and I can say today was a good day toward that goal.
❤❤❤
N'wah wizard quest breakdown.
Why would I subject myself to that sermon? Why would you say that about your own sermons? Is this how you honor the Sixth House and the Tribe Unmourned?
He is a God! How dare you question a God!?
I submit my name to the goblet of fire ! there are more than 4 missing apprentices, the number is actually twice the amount of people ... yet we don't go looking for them and never hear about what they did.... (not the four you go look for but the four who bound Velehk sain ) who were they when did they live and when did they bind him? we can deduce how, but never why and when? i know he's a feared dremora lord ... a notorious pirate lord even.. but why did they decide to bind him ? its just something i've never been able to wrap my head around.... and if they were only students... apprentices... then wtf were they doing with a dremora binding spell like this... this smells far away of incompetence.. and lack of foresight.. since he literally obliterated them because they bound him... daedra does not like to be bound, and given the chance they will make you pay!
N,war Wizard Quest breakdown
I have been waiting diligently for this sermon. Blessed be Lord Dagoth!
This feels like it was slowed down for the audio.

Is this how the College of Winterhold honors the 6th House and tribe unmourned? Apparently not.
Arcarno is an altmer. Of course he doesn't like the Dragonborn
The penseve and Labyrinthian are very different

Is the mighty lord dagoth too much of a milk drinker to even utter the name of JK ROWLING? Think I'm gonna unsub right here, the irony of voldemort-ing her for telling a basic fact is just too much. This coming from someone who hated her before it was cool.
I had issues with her even before the big controversies as well.
