I made a rule of nothing on my counters. Instead, I made a "crap basket" for my husband to put his stuff into instead of on my clean countertops.
He is allowed to have whatever he wants in that basket until it is full, and then he sees for himself that it is time to go through thise items and put them away or declutter. This has made a huge difference in my home.

I always joke that I must have lived a previous life as someone who was in need. It can be really hard to let go of things. I have found myself organizing all my excess.

That scarcity mindset can be so tough to break through!

These are fantastic points! Expected mess is so important to understand. And building that muscle that we have enough and don’t need more was a game changer for me. I could always easily get rid of things I no longer found useful or didn’t like, but never did it stop me from buying more. Until I learned, we DON’T need all the stuff that the world tells us we need to be an idealistic person, and organizing it won’t help….then did I find that my home stayed decluttered and simple.
Wonderful message you are spreading !!!!

Oh man the “a good mom does arts and crafts” thought hits home!!! I always feel like I’m not spending my time with my one year right if not doing a craft to show how tiny his hands and feet are. Thank you for addressing this and giving permission to let that lie go!!

Thank you for saying there’s expected mess. This was freeing for me to realize ❤ I’m still trying to figure out what I can maintain, and I have so much more to Declutter to get there lol

YES! I hate that I’ve always felt like things have to be done perfectly. The past couple of years I’ve worked really hard to try and tell myself “getting something done is better then getting nothing done”

I love arts and crafts but my kids do not- at least not now. Art supplies are easy to come by, so I can get them later for cheap if they should ever show the interest.
