This type of bentou has been sold since 1987, invented before the episode of born to cook manga. Before this mechanism was invented, there were other types of self-heating bentou such as using oxidation of Fe powder.

When watching Eric meal time,he said how this self heating works. There are raw lime slakes and a water pouch inside and when one pulls out the thread, the water mixed with lime which gives out heat in turn which heats the container. I am not sure.
The string breaks a membrane separating water and calcium oxide, when mixed the calcium oxide and water react to create calcium hydroxide. This is an exothermic reaction, meaning that it creates heat.
There's a heating system placed inside the bento box, when you pull the cord, water is released onto some calcium oxide, this causes a exothermic reaction which makes the heating up possible.
@@SierraofTerra That would be great actually as you could make up your meal, likely far more impressive than this one and then have it heat when you are ready to eat.
The Indian railways can't keep their own trains and stations clean and accessible. Innovations like these won't even be brought up during board meetings lmao.
I love the idea of the self heating bento and Ekiben but seriously that is one of the saddest looking bentos I've ever seen. Absolutely no color, no veggies whatsoever. I have seen other ekibens and that's the saddest one yet.
Probably nowhere. We are behind on that type of stuff. I've only seen those when people are in other countries. Would be so convenient if we had those available.
You don't care much about our environment, do you? You want to eat healthy but cause so much of unnecessary waste. Maybe prepare something cold if you don't have a source to heat it up. And use lest styrofoam and plastic.
OrangeTabbyCat Did you know that Japan has the highest plastic recycling rate in the world? So all of that “waste” is actually carefully sorted and recycled into new products. Unlike the U.S. which has a 20% recycling rate and continues to produce more and more plastic waste every year, Japan is doing a far better job.
Why the negativity , you say all this but I’ve bet that you’ve littered before but you don’t give a damn about it do you . Honestly people these days, smh
This was the technology they showed in animes over a decade ago that looked impossible. Very cool.
born to cook (mr ajikko) ep 16

I think i first saw this in a cowboy bebop! Didn't know it already existed outside of MREs.
I'm a fight for that bento
Fight me lol!! I want it too!
In 1995 i was watching an anime called born to cook, the main character made a concept bento that can self heat... 👍👍👍
the inventor must have read it too lol

It's basically just a handwarmer for food
as soon as it swelled i was waiting for the explosion BOOM!!!
I need this in the US. I want one so bad.
Looks yummy!❤
K - Roses it doesss
Yuuumy 😍 & super convenient
Was everyone as scared as i was lmao

I'm just wondering what's with the string? And how come it's wet inside the box? Sorry just curious

I saw this while watching Charlotte 😂😂
Damn same episode 2
Yep, same
Yuppp
Samee
Same
I wish I could have that, so that way I don't have to wait until the food is done all day
I thought this is bizarre and very impressive....until the person opened the meal and we see the meal itself :(
U spent more than half of the video just taking the box out !!!! My god
Sometimes I wish I was born in Japan for the food honestly😂maybe it's cuz it look exotic to me a half Spanish American 😂😂
jaya443 Same for me as half german and turk. ;)
Cool
Where can I get that small heating pack? Is it only available in Japan?
How the flying fuck did that work?
There's a heating system placed inside the bento box, when you pull the cord, water is released onto some calcium oxide, this causes a exothermic reaction which makes the heating up possible.
Liam Davis
damn are you my chem teacher
The US is so far behind on this kind of thing....
No. Same basis as for MREs
@@Aoskar95 But why don’t they use the same methods for meals from the store?
@@McFlashh Cost effectiveness mostly.
Cheaper to simply freeze the meal than buying 3 tons of aluminum powder
Just learned about this,,,😂😂this video came out 7 or 8 years ago,,,Japan is way ahead of the USA on this one, and we still don't have this
True.
American MREs have heating packs that work the same way as this does. If you want Bento boxes you can find them in Asian markets
man wish we had something like those for meals, save on cooking and wasting dishes, etc LOLOL
I gotta know how it work!!!
ShadowsandCityLights it's the reaction of calcium oxide and water
Mmmm, looks tasty
I wonder where to buy these?
Light the fuse... Fire in the hole.. Sorry box
It looks like Civilian version of MRE
Wonder if you can buy these online 🤔
They are bento, make fresh daily so no you can't, even if u can it will be spoiled by the time the bento arrived
@@atlasthechamp82 i think he was referring to the box itself not the food

MRE lunchbox 😂
Better than!
*Nice Horey*
is it this bento is frozen first ?
Please. Launch. This. One. In. Indian. Railway. Station. Also

So cool
It looks like the box was slighted a bit in the smaller compartment.
Where in Tokyo station? Near the Shinkansen?

Aliens 😂
Nani Kore?
Great technology for camping~ but the food itself looked DISMAL
the technology is a little old
MRE
Pretty much. But these probably taste way better!
@@NishaCheese nah mre are produced in like kitchens (imo) and this was probably produced in factories

i search this because of Born to cook, and it’s real
Vorcslemor quadrant it's obviously real, it's the chemical reaction of calcium oxide and water causing and exothermic reaction
the food doesn't look very good but the string concept is the best version of the self heating food box
Anybody here from India tasted the foods provided by the Indian railways or from the sellers on the platforms?
Did you get that from Amazon
That's like 4 spoonfuls of food lol.
Hey guys How much is this?
