Yea, I played there a couple of times, Roy Hiltons Band especially the Bass player were always fabulous to my ears, such a joy to play with those guys !!.
Stephane Grappelli and Lonnie Donegan?? As a kid, I used to love this show but, now, as an adult I can really appreciate the calibre of entertainment they had on a regular basis. Also, I didn't realise how good Bernard Manning's voice was.
Crazy how good this is. 40 minutes just flew by! Bernard Manning was the biggest surprise, what a great singer he was! Must have been a pre-fame little and large there. Lonnie Donegan must have been a pretty big name back then too Incredible how all most of these amazingly talented people are basically completely unkown just 50 years later. I could imagine people watching this in 100 or 200 years time and still being just as impressed. Thanks for posting!
Essential weekend viewing as a kid growing up in Lancashire in the mid '70's'. Great entertainment & harmless fun, with no hint of any 'political correctness'' on display ~ Also with hindsight, I now feel that these 'Wheel tapper's' broadcast's must certainly have influenced a young Peter Kaye, to eventually create his Phoenix Nights series.
The Steffan Grapelly ( Turn 😂) the blackbeard chap on left was Dizz Disley, I got to play with him live in a Birmingham Club around the same time, An absolutely amazing English guitar player, yet hardly mentioned now.?
Lonnie, Stephan, major worldwide stars by this time, plus Little and Large before coming household names in Britain, the entertainment was always red hot on the WTSC. Never ceases to amaze me how many people comment on Bernard Manning being able to sing. Yet to anybody who remembers him it was well known. This proves that 99% of you were totally brainwashed by the shit the hate groups like the newspapers put out about him being nothing but a racist comic, or you didn't know of him at all. Sheeple is what you are, do try thinking for yourself, I know its a novel idea but do try, you'll thank me for it in the long run.
Granada Television put a lot of effort into making their studio look and feel like a working mens club. Viewers always comment that they were surprised to learn that it was in fact the main entertainment studio at Granada in Manchester.
Blimey Julie this takes me back, love seeing these shows from a simpler time, before reality TV and political correctness set in, I see TPTV are starting to show the series in December. Thanks for posting.
What’s really telling, and leads on from that comment, is that Terri Rogers was trans. But that didn’t form any part of the (brilliant and hilarious) act and, ultimately, no one cared. Because the acts were there to entertain and that was all.
@@DDandrums It's pretty simple to understand what he means for those of us who haven't been indoctrinated into a far left cult. He means it's just about entertainment & not being worried if somebody with skin thinner than bog paper might get offended at some point in the future. He's talking about entertainment where the primary focus was to entertain & not just there as a vehicle for far left politics. Clear enough for you.? Or has the -education- indoctrination system in this country done an even worse job on your brain than I thought.?
Wheres the Tony Christie one gone??... And yes Bernard Manning pitched a perfect American artist jazzy blues crooner.. like pitch perfect, chops and tecnique
A very strong show. Stéphane Grappelli was good, as was the ventriloquist. And it's good to see Little and Large from the days when they were funny and making their name. I have no idea what Lonnie Donnigan was thinking of with that ridiculously overblown act he put on, though. It was like being assaulted. Not remotely engaging.
These types of times will have to come back at some point. because technology will burn itself out and eventually we have to go back in time. these days its all lazyness with all computers and god knows what. the internet will crash one day then what will all you lot do who can.t add up and write with pen and paper.
@@markofsaltburn Yeah, the IBA imposed prize limits. That's why you saw cheap cars and speedboats on Bullseye and trips to Yugoslavia on The Golden Shot.
You don't get it. The whole idea of the show is tongue in cheek. Mr Chairman ie Colin Crompton is meant to be crass and cringeworthy. This is how these clubs were back in the day.....Oh those cringeworthy 70s :)
This Is The Best Entertainment ever (old school) nowadays not much comes close to this please wind the clock back 🇬🇧👍🏻❤️

Wonderful to see these classic shows again; it's like having a time machine. Much appreciated. First time I've seen the Wheeltappers in colour!

Bernard’s voice is fantastic!
Fair play, Bernard Manning could really sing
Yes and a great comic too!
It was not perfect back then, but it was infinitely better than now. I want a time machine.
THanks < Julie. This is a great blast from the past. It goes so good with my morning coffee.
Thanks for it all.
I used to watch this as a nipper round at my Great Aunt's on a Saturday night. VERY fond memories invoked, thank you for this!

Used to watch this with my parents eating fish and chips ah the good old days
In those days when fish and chips were affordable, not a luxury, they are today

Incredible
When Britain was Britain
Order round the rooooooom! 😂❤
Colin Crompton had the Birch and Bottle pub in Higher Whitley, Cheshire, where some of the Coronation St cast were regular visitors.
Well done Julie. 🍾
when cabaret acts were good xxxxxxxxx
I was 6 when this was aired. I remember watching it. But no specific act. They are all puffing away as if their lives depend on it !
And isn't that Jimmy Hill on guitar?
Never realised what an excellent singer Bernard Manning was.
❤️ Julie
Thank you
when times were good.
Wow that ventriloquist GREAT!
great show when tel lie vision was running decent programs .... miss these guys and gals ...

I feel sad watching as most will probably be dead 😱
I've got 2 Dvds = 4 discs of the WT & S club I see if I can upload but my original one got taken off
Have you got episode 5? With George melly, it got taken down...such a shame
the audience look like they ve just got up out of their graves LOL
Grapelli is there too...
These were the days when political correctness didn't even exist not like today and everybody was your friend
Bernard is a better singer than most of the acts
Harry Redknap on bass??
15:06 I think they just did just to do a flyover

Stephane Grappelli and Lonnie Donegan well . Sorry Lonnie not good, but Stephane . Oh yes!
Lonnie Donnigan was terrible! Love the ventriloquist though!
