Young 49 here just about caught the Comedians, loved Colin, and all the gang.. Bit of a comedic bone in my body thinks with a bit of work 70%of these jokes would still work today
Great collection Julie Ann, I was working at the Windmill Theatre Great Yarmouth in the late 60’s and 70’s, we had one Summer Season (16 Weeks) of Wheel Tappers and Shunters Club” Colin was the Compare. Great man, he had a desk with his dell on it, to the right of the stage. In the 2nd half he would come centre stage and do a 30 minute spot. Each night I would raise the centre mic stand by turn a handle connect to wire and pulley system. One night it jammed, Colin stood there looking towards the wings saying, “Arise Sir Mic” when suddenly the mic stand shot up in front of him. I thought that’s my job gone. When he came off I apologised to him explaining what had happened, he looked at me and said, “Stewart that was brilliant, keep it in every performance. The audience laughed so much they thought it was part of his act. Thank goodness when we showed him how it worked, he knew I could not replicate it every performance. Stage Set looked like a Pub. A truly funny man, at 71 I can still hear the laughter if I think of those great 16 week of my life. Thank you for sharing xxxxxx
In the early 80's I had many a pint with Colin in the Barleycorn pub on Barlow Moor Rd. Didsbury, M/c, when he died we planted a tree at the front in his memory, a real gent, other regulars at the time were Bernie Dwyer ( drummer with the Dreamers) Tony Bookbinder (drummer with the Dakotas ) Dougie James ( Soultrain ) and others.
Yes he loved the Barleycorn, and I was at the tree planting. He felt safe there in his final months, we did his little birthday celebration there in the room at the back too, I’m his eldest daughter
Loved this man, I was only a boy in the 70s but I watched this show, i didn't get many of the jokes but I just loved the show, I love it even better seeing it again as a 50 something!!!! Thanks again Julie Ann.
We worked with Colin many years ago on a club in Wales. When he got to the club he was steaming drunk, but when he stepped on the stage he was word perfect. What a star and what a gent :-)
I remember Colin so well from my teen years. So sad that he died early fifties :(. Thanks very much for uploading the compilatiion. Very enjoyable as always
I used to love Colin Crompton on the Wheeltappers and shunters Social Club ! Thanks for sharing this julie ! :) These were the days when a comedian had TALENT and didn't need to use smut to get a laugh ( No I'm not a prude ) I like the raucous comedians too but these were the days ! :)
To be fair the old school guys material could be pretty blue when they performed live in night clubs etc . My parents saw Bernard Manning live in the late 70s and they said his material was pretty blue( albeit hilarious) to put it mildly, not to mention the overt racism. I'm not judging him , It was a different time with different set of standards in those days.
Colin Crompton owned a pub called the Birch and Bottle in a small village in Cheshire named Lower Whitley (between Warrington and Northwich) it frequented by some of the cast of Coronation St.
I think that style is now known as the Donald Trump prototype cut. 😉. Very funny old school comic though,I remember him on telly when I was a kid in the 70s .
Colin lived in my hometown of Middleton in Manchester. At the place that I worked in 1974 we Installed some gates at the end of his drive. You could see that he was a real family man. He came out with tea and biscuits for my mate and I. He said ever so politely please could you be as quiet as you can as the baby isn't feeling too well.
Great comic as were many who appeared on the "Comedians" loved him as the host on "Wheeltappers and shunters club" as well. Happy memories pre political correctness when we could laugh at each other and ourselves!
What a great entertainer, he works with his audience and kind of talks to them as friends not as a paying crowd on a nights work ( if you know what I mean) so called comedians of today are so false !!
The joke at 9:26 - I've got an LP by Max Miller recorded in 1961, in which he tells a version of it. He tells it very well, but Colin Crompton stretches it right out it, and tells it beautifully!
Genuine story - a guy in the town where I lived got steaming drunk in the pub one night, and for some reason, decided to climb up on the top of one of those old, overhang type bus shelters. He's sat up there, cross legged, and a policeman came from around the corner, walking past. "Now then, what you doing up there?" he said. The drunk replied, "You won't believe this officer, but I just fell out of Supercar..."
Just to make everyone aware I wont tolerate disrespectful comments on any videos on my channel, all such instances will be removed. Play nice people, thank you.
I am 99% certain it was a Granada prop - this isn't a criticism of Colin but his character as the chairman on W&T wasn't exactly his own act he had been asked to almost plagiarise part of the act of one of the funniest comedians I ever met - also no longer with us... Norman Collier. For some reason (actually his face didn't fit with someone at Granada) Norman was never invited to be one of "The Comedians".
I used to really like him but had forgotten all about him! I was born at the end of 1973 so was 11 when he died. all of the comics around then were great now the great ones are all gone and the ones that are actually funny are far and few between!
I remember watching Colin on the telly At Wheeltappers his funniest which I have never forgotten. "Chrabang leaves for daytrip to Benidorm on Saturday at 9am from the front car park, Now Ive been in touch with the Chairman, Wheeltappers and Shunters Club Affiliated in Benidorm say its okay but we have to bring our own Potatas, now weve had a meeting of the Committeeee, and they say Chips will do" , "we expect to be back in time for the BINGO". never forgotten it, that must have been late 70's i guess.
Absolute class. This is from the time when Comedians were funny. Thanks for the upload. 👍
Great gags ,no bad language good timing , enjoyed his happy outlook on things ,spot on
that's the best comb over ever
Young 49 here just about caught the Comedians, loved Colin, and all the gang.. Bit of a comedic bone in my body thinks with a bit of work 70%of these jokes would still work today
Brings back great memories. Worked with Colin for a summer season in The Showboat Bar, Rhyl, North Wales. Lovely man, and very funny.
Thank you, no smut, foul language, sexism, racism or plagiarism.A brilliant comic.
You obviously never saw his club act.
Brilliant! I used to watch him on TV when I was a small boy. He was my favourite! Thanks for the memories.
Just came across this by chance. Some Great Jokes. What an era the 70's was for Televised Comedic Talent.
A great comic, 70s nostalgia!

+NEIL SEAN'S SHOWBIZ Wow, Neil, never knew you had met Colin, how lovely to hear this :) x
@@JulieAnnMulvey Boring old Neil claims to have met everyone. It's a substitute for his failed career. He is bitter and full of hate.

If you read between the lines it was smutty/saucy postcard humour, but delivered tastefully, without the need for profanity.
Glorious adaption of the combover...the combforward. Marvellous!
Very funny man. Multi talented as well. He's a magician with a hairbrush 👍
Colin crompton a proper old comedien !
Colin Crompton owned a pub called the Birch and Bottle in a small village in Cheshire named Lower Whitley (between Warrington and Northwich) it frequented by some of the cast of Coronation St.
Yes he did, and yes the cast did visit, Johnnie Briggs even served drinks behind the bar once or twice 🤣
I must say, that he was the only reason I watched wheeltappers and shunters back in my youth. Such a dry sense of humour.
I loved the Wheeltappers as a kid! Still watch now on youtube! Timeless
Genuis colin Was a one off love him great teller of jokes sadly missed by many
A master of timing.
Thanks julie, found a new favorite thanks to you! RIP buddy.

I think that style is now known as the Donald Trump prototype cut. 😉. Very funny old school comic though,I remember him on telly when I was a kid in the 70s .
Its the same colour as his teeth. A gingery brown
NWA - Straight outta Colin Crompton
He does things with the language what a funny man, seems so easy but worked at it I bet.
Colin lived in my hometown of Middleton in Manchester. At the place that I worked in 1974 we Installed some gates at the end of his drive. You could see that he was a real family man. After 10 months of lockdown, his haircut is better than mine.

He was brilliant.. Loved him and Bernard manning, on the wheel tappers and shunters club
Cheers Julie, Colin is a legend. I love all your uploads. x

The best comedian up there with Mr manning
Great comic as were many who appeared on the "Comedians" loved him as the host on "Wheeltappers and shunters club" as well. Happy memories pre political correctness when we could laugh at each other and ourselves!
We need comedians like this today to stuff it up the woke morons.
This is brilliant.
He made us laugh, ... great guy
Thanks for uploading, Julie. Very enjoyable 22 mins, wish it were longer.
What a great entertainer, he works with his audience and kind of talks to them as friends not as a paying crowd on a nights work ( if you know what I mean) so called comedians of today are so false !!

Where did all the good men go , takes me back to the days of colin Bernard Charlie Les they could all tell a joke thanks
Very funny man! They were much funnier back then.
Astonishing comb forward barnet.
Good old colin happy days
Brilliant comedian. He was taken far too young. Loved him in "Wheeltappers" ringing that bell. Hilarious stuff. I was 16 in 1974.
The idiot smoked !!
Killed by smoking unfortunately at 54 years of age.
No rudeness, no swearing. Just a great comedian.

Proof you can be funny without using the F word. We don’t produce comedy legends like this anymore and we are all the more sad for it 😢
Too true.
The good old ðays when someone could smoke a fag without it being mentioned in parliament
the f word is hilarious
*_THE FUNNIEST THING ABOUT COLIN, WAS HIS FRIGGING HAIR_* 👁️👁️
And that's pretty much it
Donald Trump springs to my mind 😂
Loved his hair style!!
I watched these recently eith my son. He couldnt believe the amount of smoking on tv
The best joke of all is this guy's hairstyle; fucking hilarious 😂
9:26 - I nearly weed myself, from the East Lancs to Southport to the 2' 6d. Comedy gold
I love the comments on here Julie, thanks so much for this ❤️❤️
Just to make everyone aware I wont tolerate disrespectful comments on any videos on my channel, all such instances will be removed. Play nice people, thank you.
Julie Ann Mulvey Absolutely. Colin was a great performer and worthy of respect. I love just watching him, he is marvellous!
Well said!!
The fire bell that Colin rang on The Wheeltappers was his own or was it a Granada prop
I am 99% certain it was a Granada prop - this isn't a criticism of Colin but his character as the chairman on W&T wasn't exactly his own act he had been asked to almost plagiarise part of the act of one of the funniest comedians I ever met - also no longer with us... Richard Sharpe there were several bells, my dads brother still has one of them, they were props
