. Richard - I know the Charlie Williams to whom you refer. :-) Funnily enough, though, Bernard Manning appeared at the Villa Marina during the 1993 TT. The turn before him had been an "alternative comedian", and Bernard knew that he hadn't gone down well, because when Bernard came on he "was walking on beer cans" rather than the stage. But Bernard managed to calm the audience down and got them on his side. "You can't fool those bikers," he said in a televised interview later. "They're all down-to-earth..." Up to then I'd never considered Bernard Manning to have been the sort of person who would champion motorcyclists. Just goes to show. .

Good old fashioned humour without any predujice this is what comedy is all about laugh at yourself and everyone will laugh with you if you're not bigoted what a sad world we live in today
Comedians laughing at their own jokes, jokes they've told a thousand times before? Many of these guys were manic depressives and alcoholics. It is not a sad world, but in the 70s you were young, now you're old. Have some self-awareness.
Early 1970s these people would be on at the seaside theatres, Yarmouth, Blackpool etc. As a kid you could get in with a bit of pocket money and see TV stars. Oftentimes you'd see them out on the piers talking to people. Some, like Frankie Howerd and Mike and Bernie Winters would have nothing to do with their fans.
Charlie Williams made jokes about being a black Yorkshire man and Frank Carson made plenty jokes about “thick” Irish. No hypocritical PC to spoil everything back then. Mum and dad still with us and all of the family still living in the house. How I miss those days.
Pure class, feel very lucky to have seen all these in their prime, todays comedians don’t even get close, you don’t have to swear. Lee Evans was funny UNTIL he started swearing more..........Lee, you do t have to

I believe when someone is buried in a church graveyard it lasts 75 year's, After that if payments aren't made they chuck the headstone away and bury someone ontop. Way to advanced for "comedians" today. Fantastic time back then!
The line about chewing a whelk for four hours made me laugh out loud.
