Very wise and graceful man. This seems like a good and respectful viewpoint to have as an aging artist. So many older artists always wanna bash kids and complain about how things are changing, and blame the millennials for their faltering careers. Trent's not doing any of that, he just accepts that things are changing and does his best to just keep moving along. Truly a class act, much respect!

trent's comments on presentation and longevity is smacked on. i too was more interested in the likes of floyd and bowie and that sense of mystique. it's true that there isn't that much mystique these days. i'm like "man, i don't wanna know what you ate".
i also appreciate the fact that having been a fan of NIN for more than 20 years and remain so as i'm just happy that the music trent has made is still incredible. it holds up and i can always put it on when i want to. plus, he never compromised nor let something like business or trends dictate what he can or can't do. something bon jovi needs to learn as they're no longer a band. it's just jon bon jovi running a business about what the music should be and what demographic they should go after as well as picking whatever producer that can help them. no wonder richie sambora left the band.

"Rock" doesn't die out if u pass it on. Have shared with younger gen the best years in music's past. My music doesn't make me feel old it just confirms how quickly time goes by. True art is timeless. Trendy is not. Modern audio tech has come a long way-can appreciate music on another level. Bands created in 90s were and are some of the best. They were inspired by 70s music after all.

I cherish a concept counter to most of what Trent is saying here. The concept that accuracy in perspective "fixes" all issues in life. If you understand the reality around you and have a realistic expectation of what reality should be, you can deal with anything and solve any problem.
Is it healthy to view musicians as gods? Is it good to fail to achieve what you think you perceive in someone else, and then think worse of yourself, when you actually just don't see that other correctly? I think there's a lot of unnecessary pain in the darkness of pre-internet unawareness.

But I kind of wonder if he might try improv or something, because he often does keep it all his interviews on the down side... you can't be serious *all* the time. Maybe on his next tour he can open up with a round of stand-up :-)

Trent is so wise. And it's so interesting seeing Atticus listening as well. I appreciate the insight and take here. The only thing I'll say is that as a fan, I am very interested in what artists meant / intended with their lyrics. I think we can still have that knowledge and still choose to interpret it in our own ways if it connects with us differently. A good example of this is that viral clip of x factor or something from years ago where a man sang Labryinth's Jealous (which is about a break-up) but he told the audience that he connects the lyrics to his best friend who died and is no longer with him. Sometimes knowing the artists' intent can help me make sense of lyrics that confuse me but I still feel free to interpret it how I want knowing that it's art.
Also love that he threw in the Trump is an asshole part. Reminds me of Larry David - alienate yourselves.

The thing is, I don't care about his political beliefs or if they fall in line with mine or not. I care that this dude wrote music that got me through the toughest times of my life. And his music never gets stale and keeps evolving and impacting me.
