The noise that the Price is Right wheel makes always scared me as a kid. I can't put my finger on why though but it's such a visceral memory for me.

Yall made my comment sound weird for no reason. When a couple is married it is normal for people to address a family member as belonging to both partners. Example: in "Shrek the Third," when King Harold (Fiona's dad) is on his death bed, he tells Shrek (Fiona's husband) he is proud to call him his son. But I get it now, Uncle Dane is in fact not yall's uncle, that was my misunderstanding😅

I don't feel like it's very common at all, but I could be wrong. But in my life, I've basically never heard anyone refer to their spouse's family member as if they're their own family member. The phrase "in-law" is always used. I guess that Shrek example is a rare exception, but I don't think it's common. At least it hasn't been common in my life. Like if I heard someone say "my uncle" in reference to their spouse's uncle (without adding "in-law"), that would be very, very weird to me.

Comparing a finger being as easy to bite off as a carrot unlocked some primal fear in me i didn't know i had. For some reason the wiener x wiener comparison wasn't as bad.

So sorry to "um actually" you, but there is a lot of literature about the "panhandler urban legend". Unhoused people often use panhandling as a last resort and in my experience speaking to them, there is usually an expectation of $10-$20/hr. Cost of living when unhoused is insanely high, so that doesn't get you far unless you spend all day in one place. There simply isn't a good reason to spread this misinformation when the outliers are obviously so sparse.
Only saying this because I think y'all are receptive to things like this and I'd hope for you to make a correcting statement. Love the pod btw

I appreciate your um actually! It’s very easy to fall prey to misinfo and spread things even if you have good intentions so I always appreciate someone letting me know 🫶 I now can no longer spread it which is really the most important thing.

Squinting has the primary effect of narrowing the slit through which light passes which, like the contraction of the iris which happens automatically in response to light intensity, and similar to camera apertures, has the effect of widening the depth of field of the image you see. Objects further from your effective focal point become clearer, so especially if your eyes are not perfect and you can't focus your eye lens on the object you want to see, squinting will further decrease the spot size of that object (makes it appear clearer).

Also the movie you are thinking of with Adam Sandler and a child is called Big Daddy. The movie cover is a picture of Adam Sandler pissing on a brick wall alongside the young Dylan Sprouse.

the millennial cusp is definitely closer to 99. I only learnt that I was gen Z like 5 years ago and I am a 99 baby. I don't feel like I fit into either gen completely. Feeling too young for one and being thought of as a stupid younger sibling and too old and uncool by the other is so whack. most people my age swing hard in one direction or the other. there is no consistency lmao.

So glad they clarified more specifically what they were talking about with the panhandling and escalades. Somehow my brain auto filled that panhandling was referring to panning for gold like in a river.

weird ask but can Ian maybe talk about his lasik eye surgery experience? I want to get it done but I am terrified... also I'm broke but mostly scared. Im ADHD positive and the extra task of putting contacts in can derail my whole morning and I cant seem to find glasses that don't make me break out... maybe wire frames? (I clean my glasses thoroughly) it just seems like my skin just hates having something that close :/ or maybe I'm mildly allergic to the plastic...

About the stuff stuck on cookware and dishes...Don't ever watch that videos of the guy who puts everything under a microscope. OMG I feel really weird and get anxious if I hear the song Funky Town. I hate it so much...but I don't "know" what Chris is talking about. Anisa's childhood home sounds like her dad said things like "I can fix anything with duct tape and a pocket knife."

Damn it, I missed out on having a comment read. If I knew you were going to read them, I'd have taken time to comment more, haha.
And no, I'm not not commenting out of laziness, I usually download the podcast and listen to them on flights I have to take monthly (like 12 hour flights), so when I'm listening, I don't usually have the opportunity to comment.
Of course, now this comment itself doesn't have much substance, but if you end up reading it, thanks for providing me hours of entertainment while stuck on red eyes to Canada.
Maybe I'll leave a voicemail, but I don't have a clue what I'd want to say.
Edit: Oh, it'd be cool if you made the voicemail more coordinated, so use the ones you have now, then ask during a pod for certain types of answers/responses, this would incentivize callers and give you a segment for next time.

3 minutes in. YES anisa you're the very first person to ever have had the same experience. Every time I grab metal whether it's an old doorknob or change or anything really. My hand will always then smell like pennies and it's such a visceral smell it's like I can taste it. I always keep hand sanitizer in my purse for that reason. Nobody else I know notices this!! I feel so seen. 😅

yes of course it's a crying emoji T-T but i don't think those types of emojis are really used anymore, some young people even say it's cringe for some reason, also about that clock thing, i have a condition called dyscalculia (it's kinda like dislexy but with numbers) and it's really hard for me to understand clocks, simple math, how to count change, to remenber dates, codes, passwords, anything number related really, but it doesn't mean i can't it just means that it's not an automatic thing, like people can hear "whats 4x6" and they will imediatly know the answer while me? i don't even know it righ now! lol i need to stop and actually think about it... love you guys so glad my comment showed up : )
