Let’s remind everyone that this was 1990 and she put brown gay men upfront on national tv. This wasn’t “cool” back then. Madonna is a true ally, she “used” the gay brown community to lift them up in a time when nobody else did , and when it wasn’t cool to do it.
The night after Madonna and her crew performed "Vogue" at the MTV VMA's, they performed this same routine at a Los Angeles AIDS Fundraiser Benefit. It was kept a secret that she would be performing and those in attendance had no idea that they would get to see this in person. Most everyone had seen the performance the night before on MTV and the audience went wild when they heard the music start and she and her crew performed this routine again, live in front of them. That must have been so exciting.
This was/is Madonna at her very best! This performance is Iconic! The song, the lyrics all help to create a great performance of course but she delivered and stayed in character from the first second she hit that stage till the very last!
everytime I listen to this masterpiece I think about the line "look around everywhere you turn is heartache , its everywhere that you go..." with AISD taking over NYC . When Pose came out it showed that and it proved how deep these lyrics are . its not something simple about fashion runways as many people used to think those days

eff me I feel so proud reading that! am no longer part of the younger generation, nor am I Madonna, but I hear you, I feel it the same way 🤗 I am so happy that especially recently, she is getting the recognition and appreciation sooo long overdue! ...and she only had to nearly DIE for this. this lady has been my hero since I was about 10. she could sit on a chair with a guitar and just talk, I wouldn't care. just keep sharing what she has to share for as long as she is still enjoying it. she's given me hope, she's given me life, she's given me ammo for life to be me. seeing kids half my age understanding the multitude of messages of each song/album/performance/event and her role in them from the 80's and 90's is so heartwarming and gives us hope. when most people didn't even care to notice that there is a whole world outside of their little bubble, let alone appreciate the importance and genius of M's art.. and here we are forty years later. I'd say it's some pretty fekkin INCREDIBLE achievement for a 'one-hit wonder, sounding like Minnie Mouse on helium...'

The three white fans used in this performance belonged to choreographer Vincent Paterson. He worked with Madonna on several occasions, and he helped choreograph this performance. A few years ago, he sold the three fans at auction. The selling price was $75,000.00.
