    I've made this cake for over 45yrs. I found it in a Pillsbury cook book my mother gave me. It had won a bake off contest in 1960's
    I still have the book. It calls for the butter and sugar to be creamed first, then add in eggs, mixing one at a time. The dry ingredients were mixed separately together then added alternately with flour last, then mix in vanilla, mix in. Then bake for 50-60 minutes. I use a tube pan. You can add vanilla for flavoring in butter sauce, in lieu of rum flavoring. When a toothpick comes out clean, take it out, poke all around with skewer of fork, drizzle glaze all over it. Let cool completely. I make it early, and it is ready to be eaten same night. Sprinkle powdered sugar on top. I use a paper doily on top of cake and sprinkle the powdered sugar over that to make a design which is exactly what was done in original recipe.

    The texture of this cake is MUCH nicer when you cream the butter and sugar together first for about 5 - 8 minutes, then add eggs one at a time, then vanilla and last alternate adding in the combined flour, salt, baking soda and baking powder mixture and the butter milk to the egg butter and sugar mixture with your mixer on med speed. Trust me when I tell you your cake will be lovely, light and tender.

      33605pgood ..... I’ve been baking for over 30 years, and I agree, HOWEVER, I have seen many recipes that dump everything in, and I think they are intended to purposely be a little “different”. With a true pound cake, (which this is not), I’d definitely want better texture, BUT I think this would be a cool cake to make to save all the steps and TIME...plus most cake eaters seem to only care about taste anyway. I’m gonna try this for fun one day!!

    can you use cake flour instead of regular flour??

    • @letabitofeverything3254
      @letabitofeverything3254  8 лет назад +1

      +Sterling Thompson I would weigh the amount of all purpose flour, when you know the weight then use the same amount of weight to measure the cake flour.. The amount of cake flour will be more than the all purpose flour. For instance if a recipe calls for 2 -1/2 cup all purpose flour you will need like 2 - 3/4 cup cake flour. Hope that helps :)
