The cake looks great! I love the frozen buttermilk cube idea! No more wasted buttermilk!
I've made this cake for over 45yrs. I found it in a Pillsbury cook book my mother gave me. It had won a bake off contest in 1960's
I still have the book. It calls for the butter and sugar to be creamed first, then add in eggs, mixing one at a time. The dry ingredients were mixed separately together then added alternately with flour last, then mix in vanilla, mix in. Then bake for 50-60 minutes. I use a tube pan. You can add vanilla for flavoring in butter sauce, in lieu of rum flavoring. When a toothpick comes out clean, take it out, poke all around with skewer of fork, drizzle glaze all over it. Let cool completely. I make it early, and it is ready to be eaten same night. Sprinkle powdered sugar on top. I use a paper doily on top of cake and sprinkle the powdered sugar over that to make a design which is exactly what was done in original recipe.
She passed away
When your buttermilk goes bad, do not throw it out. It makes the absolute best buttermilk cornbread. My mother's secret. She salvaged everything.
I've never had buttermilk long enough for it to go bad!!!
@@ritasmith9553 me neither always use it up .
My family loves this cake. I was asked to bring it to Thanksgiving dinner. Thank you for this recipe.
The texture of this cake is MUCH nicer when you cream the butter and sugar together first for about 5 - 8 minutes, then add eggs one at a time, then vanilla and last alternate adding in the combined flour, salt, baking soda and baking powder mixture and the butter milk to the egg butter and sugar mixture with your mixer on med speed. Trust me when I tell you your cake will be lovely, light and tender.
fantastic my dear God bless you 👌
Brilliant suggestion from a seasoned baker who goes for the complete package, not just taste. Thanks😊
33605pgood ..... I’ve been baking for over 30 years, and I agree, HOWEVER, I have seen many recipes that dump everything in, and I think they are intended to purposely be a little “different”. With a true pound cake, (which this is not), I’d definitely want better texture, BUT I think this would be a cool cake to make to save all the steps and TIME...plus most cake eaters seem to only care about taste anyway. I’m gonna try this for fun one day!!
33605pgood good tips, I guess, but I’m looking for a heavier dense cake so I’ll just follow the video
@@followme8238 Try making the cake both ways. Then you will learn from your own valuable experience. Let us know what you found out. My bet is to not over develop the gluten by taking time to employ the creaming method.
I made this magnificent moist and most delicious cake last night and it went over so well!!! I did exactly what the recipe said and it was a hit in my family!!! Thanks for the recipe. I will be making this again and again!

You can also make your own buttermilk if you don’t have any on hand . Use 1 cup of regular milk and add 1 tbsp vinegar and stir well. 😀

I made it and it was so delicious...ummmm...thanks...
Yay! :)
It looks yummy. :) I don't like icing, because it's like a sweet crust, but I love cakes that are sweet with a soft moist filling. :)
It sure is one I want to try. :) Thank you for sharing the recipe.
Thank you so much for the milk tip, this cake looks delicious, I have to try. Did you shift any of your ingredients?
Yummy!
This reminds me of what my mom makes sometimes. We're Brazilians and Americans so we like to bake :-)

I recognize your white "Cutco" steak knife. Mine are 47 years old and still in very good condition. Your cake looks so good, I want a piece. Thanks
Love them!!! :)
Ooh my you are killing me waiting on the glaze..😆
It sounds like a good yellow cake to layer with chocolate frosting.
Should we use unsalted butter or salted? Does it matter? I think I read somewhere that when baking you should always use unsalted butter. What difference does it make? Thanks Leta.
oh my!! I absolutely LOVE your cake and channel. I subscribed and also shared you on my Facebook as well. hope u do not mind. Your food is wonderful!! :)
Awwww so sweet of you! Thank you! So happy you are here! :)
This looks good almost reminds me of an angel food cake but a little different. But this does look interesting.
Leigh-Ann Cooper Hi Leigh-Ann! Hope you like this one :)
I like this method of baking this cake vs all that adding one egg at a time and beating each for one minute....etc. So much quicker this way.
Awesome! :)
Hi..Its Mz Sundi...well first off i luv this vid .straight to the point...i will be tryn this...n Thanku 4 the encouragen words..it keeps me goin...im bouta go thru ur vids..n where r u from...😄😄😄..Mz Sundi...
Thanks! I live in Georgia! :)
I could not get the butter glaze to liquefy with the sugar dissolving. I double checked the ingredients and they were correct. Any idea what I did wrong?
I've lived in Kentucky for the last ten years and I've never heard of this! Learn new things every day. This looks yummy. On a slightly different but food related note and homage to my Ohio roots, have you ever made chili spaghetti? Like Skyline or Gold Star?
MarisaMay I have never heard of chili spaghetti! I would love the recipe to make on my channel :)
The recipe we use at home is sadly a family recipe that I can't give out but if you search "how to make skyline chili at home" or something a recipe should come up. :) I'm excited to see it made on your channel!
MarisaMay Oh thats ok! I will look it up, thank you :)
Confection sugar at the end and it's perfect!
the cake looked great and needs no changes...
Have u ever tried Kentucky derby pie. I'm live in Kentucky btw
Hi, I love your recipes!! People here love the cinnamon rolls, funny thing on the first try I burnt them a little because I forgot that your temperature is on Farenheit!! But they were good anyways! =D kkkk! I wanted to ask you if there is anything I can substitute the buttermilk because I am from Brazil and I don't think we have it here... or if we got it is probably soo hard to find! >.< I'm dying to give this a try, please help me! Thanks so much!
Flavia Lima For every cup of buttermilk you need, take a cup of milk and put it about a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in it and set it aside. The vinegar will curdle the milk like buttermilk. I hope this helps!
The best butter cake that you have made Chad is so lucky he has a bake for his mom Lol Leta's Kitchen
Joanne Riviere Awww thanks :)
Interesting. This is the first time I have seen a homemade cake done this way. I guess it cuts down on the time. It looks good, but I will continue the traditional method of creaming sugar, butter, and eggs and adding dry ingredients.
Does the buttermilk have to be room temperature when your making the cake?
What is butter milk where you buy 😘👍
I made this cake in the state of Florida so would it be mine be considered a Florida butter cake?
🤣🤣🤣🤣
1/3 cup of butter in the glaze (in the recipe) or 1/3 stick (she says in the video) ???
When you use Pam you can eliminate flour
Butter milk is a bit sour isn't it? Or is it something else
If u freeze n make cubes how many would u useto make a cup
Use a cup to pour into ice cube trays and remember how many cubes you filled up to make that cup. Hope that helps :)
This is what I talking about
My wonderful friend Irene used to have an Aunt Leta who tatted beautifully. Before Irene passed she gave me two pieces of Aunt Letas work. I treasure them. She was wonderful woman with a rare name.
Thank you for reminding me about her.
Awww, such sweet memories! :)
Hello...last day I made it it was so fluffy n foamy and my stick comes out easily .. it was half n hour of baking...no sticky batter on stick I thought it baked I made sauce n our it on the top of cake but the cake melt...n from inside it was undone...n rough batter...what was the problem with my cake... I felt very disappointed on me because it was my husbands birthday...I can't gave him surprise.I've another question for my baking soda is salty, coasher salt also salty I used our local buttermilk...which is salty flavour...should I need use coasher salt?plz reply asp...I wanna made it again
+Naomi Daula Hello Naomi, Go ahead and leave your cake in the oven for at least 65 minutes before you test with a toothpick. You can leave the kosher salt out if you like :) Hope this helps! :)
Unsalted or salted butter, please & thank you
I used salted :)
My mind went like what what the world did she just do????
I have never seen or heard ANYBODY say to dump everything in at once when baking a pound cake. I was literally stumped. So you can just call this a dumped pound cake😂s which I can’t stand those either😂
I got the recipe and trying to make it but it was too dry! I couldn’t mix it anymore without adding more milk!
I creamed the butter and sugar first..added the eggs 1 at a time and then alternate the dry with 1 cup if milk ..I also suggest 1/2 teaspoon if salt if using salted butter!
Oh my God!
Why we have put baking soda please 🥰
Butter sauce ? In the ingredients list you say 1/3 c butter, but in the video you say 1/3 of a stick of butter. Which is correct?😊❤😊
Barbarainnc Yes I see why that is confusing! Sorry about that. It is 1/3 cup😊
Thanks for answering my question.😊❤😊
can you use cake flour instead of regular flour??
+Sterling Thompson I would weigh the amount of all purpose flour, when you know the weight then use the same amount of weight to measure the cake flour.. The amount of cake flour will be more than the all purpose flour. For instance if a recipe calls for 2 -1/2 cup all purpose flour you will need like 2 - 3/4 cup cake flour. Hope that helps :)
OK thanks so much
Sterling Thompson Your very welcome :)
Doesn't this usually have bourbon or rum?
I do use rum extract. So good.
Can u make this into cupcakes??
+Mary Gillette I have never made them as cupcakes :) but I'm sure they would be great!
Yes, I love done this many times, with the Georgia style butter cake, same results.
Funny!!🙂
This Cake Is Like The Pouding Chômeur From Quebec.....
