    Excellent dx and process of elimination isolating the problem. Very impressive watching you work as well as such sound advice. I'm pretty certain these exercises are directed exactly at the spot of a groin strain I just endured a couple days ago returning a very wide serve in the ad court (tennis) and then exploding back into the court. When I do the exercises you guys are doing it seems to target the exact area spot on.

      snatchpony after 2-3 weeks, my pain is gone now :) I applied heat to it and did massages whenever I can. When there was no more pain, I slowly tried to strengthen the area so the the muscles are signaled to be repaired in a certain way by doing stretches with resistant bands- there are more vids out there. Remember, if u feel too much pain, stop. Hope u feel better! - I speak only from personal experience, not an expert tho.

  • @jorge31415927

    The strategy seems to be strengthening as you steadily increase range of motion as opposed to the tendency (and ill advice) of stretching. This strain (and I currently am on the 4th week of one) cause spasms, tugging sensations, cramps, and a feeling of tightness. Naturally we are inclined to want to stretch it. Mine must have also compressed the femoral nerve because I had some tingling, numbing, etc. on the front thigh (between the hip and the knee), the inside thigh, and just above the knee. That has resolved and is mainly asymptomatic now. I am able to climb 50 floors of actual stairs (100 flights each direction) without incident at this point (no weightlifting exercises for legs yet). I will gradually incorporate some of these strengthening exercises as well. I attribute my recovery to NOT STRETCHING, massages, ice, and gradually increasing exercise intensity instinctively (pain is your guide).

      Just 2 days ago I too pulled the right groin muscle squatting. OUCH... I'll try some of these techniques and laying off for a week doing squats. Also, dead lifts I noticed after pulled groin I had pain as well. However, DL'ing lighter wieghts for a bit seems to "activate" the muscles without too much pain. So I'm understanding this, NO Stretching but active working the muscle to lesson the pain seems to make sense.

    Hi Dr. Jacob, I just "popped" my groin 36 hours ago. Im a triathlete (intermediate level) Little bit tender currently but no pain to speak of. I understand its a grade 1. 2-3 weeks to heal. but this is a nagging injury bit like your man on this video, been nursing it on all my runs for the last year. always tight after a long run and can feel the difference from the other leg whatever I'm doing. so been training for a iron man and i have 10 weeks to go.. so all is not lost, but I'm not sure when i can use ultra sound on it. currently still using ice every 4 hours and today started light re-hab stretches and dynamic moves as you have shown here (Thanks :) ) can you advise on when to use ultra sound please? i will follow your exercises as seems i have similar issue to your man here. I have my own Chattanooga ultra sound / electrotherapy machine at home and appreciate any info on electrotherapy which my be beneficial? I'm comfortable calculating and using the ultra sound but if you want to give advice its most welcome. you guys here on YT are doing a great job I use this platform all the time and it rocks - thanks man. hopefully MB.

    I have a Kin degree and am now working as a personal trainer, so I have some knowledge but not anywhere near where you are at. I'd like to be able to have ever aspect covered as a trainer, including sessions like this. For him, did you believe it was pectineus/adductor that was bothering him? Or psoas? Also, I notice you like to use eccentric loading to treat a lot of these issues. Is that a general rule in your field? and What exactly is that doing for the injury?
    If you could give me some answers it would be much appreciated :D

    • @DrJacobHarden
      @DrJacobHarden  7 лет назад +1

      Kiefer Thompson it's a combo of adductor and hip flexor. So we're using both. I use a lot multi angle isometrics as a way to gradually expose his nervous system to load and decrease the threat response. It's a great way to load the tissue without setting off pain so that we can start building his stress tolerance back up.

    Hey there Doc. I had to have a groin reco done about 3 years ago. I've played soccer my entire life but this has now pulled me away. It seems sharp pains down my adductor get the better of me when I kick a ball, Sprint off the right leg, sudden movements and so forth. Would you recommend the same treatment as this guy?

    • @DrJacobHarden
      @DrJacobHarden  4 года назад +1

      christian fierro Hey. Sorry to hear about that. Hard to say since I haven't assessed you and his treatment is specific to what he was dealing with. In his case, there was a lot of hip flexion sensitivity, hence why we were working on grading up the speed of the hip flexion on the wall and what not. If you have more issues with adduction, like kicking, then loaded adduction against a band or something like a Copenhagen side plank may come in. If quick changes of direction are bothersome then things like side shuffles and cone drills could be useful so you can dial up the speed and unpredictability of that movement. Again, all just general thoughts but hope that gives you some direction.

      Deriaun Townsend Most likely you to strengthen the groin muscles directly. That could be using things like sumo deadlifts and lateral lunges into your training. It will better prepare you to move in different planes as you run and cut.

    • @droliver
      @droliver 6 лет назад

      Deriaun, yum May need to get an MRI to evaluate whether you have a more complex injury then just a common strained muscle. That’s the group of injuries you may hear called a “sports hernia” which is a number of different injuries that produce common groin pain and often require surgery for competitive athletes

    • @mihai2303
      @mihai2303 5 лет назад +1

      You should probably stop doing the activity that caused the problem. Until you feel no pain whatsoever. You should do slow and constant strengthening exercises. No fast twitching like in football tennis (my case). In 3 4 month you should be good. Does the tendon hurt? Go to specialized doctor. Get it diagnosed.

      @@tumeropadre4578 he said. see me after practice. i sat on my ass for the rest of practice. after, he came to me and said lay back. he signaled 3 other teammates over to where we were. told 1 of em to hold my leg down and the other 2 to hold me down from my shoulders. basicly try and keep me from moving to much.. he with his thumb touch around in the groin area with pain.. and before i said shit. he said its tender right there right? i said yes.... i thought he would just do some stretching with me. no. he jammed his thumb into that exact spot for 3 thousands of a second. he did it 3 times.. i had a lump in my throat and teary eyes that i held in.. he said you be feel burning for about 20 mins. he said come see me tomorrow. i went the next day, i felt better already. he did the same thing that next day. and i was on the field the next day. like normal. no pain.. ever since then its never happened again. I've had that same groin act up 2 times months after but not severely like that 1st time. what i did was find the tender spot and put pressure with thumb fingers hard over and over throughout the day and it goes aways. its been 8 9 years since and i haven't had issues. when ever i feel any sort of tweek in the thigh hammies foot elbow shoulder anywhere i just apply pressure with the thumb.. or rub on the tender spot.it keeps me training.

    okay but what was the root-cause? Is this level of professional couldn't manage those exercises before? I don't see anything extraordinary on this at this point. Please forgive my opinion if it sounds arrogant but in some point looks useless..

    • @DrJacobHarden
      @DrJacobHarden  6 лет назад +5

      dodriano The root cause is an overloaded adductor/hip flexor tendon. It's not that he couldn't perform them before. But in the painful state, the tissue tolerance is much lower and we have to work within that tolerance. The exercises may look useless or low level, but they are appropriate to the tissue state. As he progressed, so did the prescription.

      @@DrJacobHarden It is indeed your greatness still responding to questions.. The only question I have is, how long it took for this champ to come back to normally following your instructions. Thanks. Gohar

      Yes, this is personal training for an elite sprinter and "NO" treatment is being performed, but clinicians can easily tell what's tight and needs to be treated. His strength coach can be called out for not performing any of those movements. Can't believe he saw this guy, lol.
