Gee Ed. I wish I had the tools that you have and the skills that go with it. Excellent craftsmanship and lots of great ideas there.

    Hi,
I have EQ-Tech Equatorial Platform & having difficulty in polar alignment. Could you please make a video demonstrating how to accurately polar align the Equatorial Platform?
    Thanks!

Look for the Magnetic Declination of your spot on earth, in order to correct the compass S/N direction. This should help a lot, because the diference could be huge!

Hi Ed... I see that your plans refer to Herbach and Rademan synchronous motors. Upon checking their site, they offer motors starting at 1 RPH on up. What RPH should I go with?

Unfortumately Herbach and Rademan no longer will sell synchronous motors.

Yes my website was hacked, my new site is now opticaleds.com.

It hardly takes a video, you just put the laser fixture on the back edge of the platform and then adjust the platform to put the laser on the pole or Polaris. It takes only seconds.

It may seem obvious, but I've been searching forever trying to understand how these work! A short video where someone explains how it works and sets it up would be wonderful. Are there any longitudes where the required inclinations make these mounts unstable?

I want to build a platform for a 16" f7 truss dob. i don't know the balancing points of the scope yet. I also have a 12" mirror with a f6 ratio where woul I order the drive motor from and a hand controller and would it be possible to have variable speeds on the motor. thanks. I want to use the scope for imaging

Joseph, I use synchronous motors and I get them from Herbach and
Rademan. They also have stepper motors if you want to go that route.
With synchronous motors you need to use a variable frequency power
inverter to vary the speeds. A hand controller is something you'll
need to make the hand controller and most likely the VF drive too.

Yes, inexpensive inverters will have a RC timing circuit. If you can find this resistor you can switch in or out more or less resistance to change the frequency which changes the speed. It's rather easy to do.

    Very nice work.
It seems the web site given above doesn't work, do you have a new address?

Looks like it may be opticaleds.com/ Think you can fudge the latitude a few degrees with leveling foot. Your kits are nice idea. Thanks for videos - Rob.
