    Thinking about changing my name to “misplaced Alaska girl”. Sadly didn’t make it much pass a few miles north of Fairbanks when we lived there. Such an adventure to be had. Took seriously the advice you gave from another video on your disclosure. Sat down and wrote out the timeline of which to be able to get RVing Fulltime. 2022 is the timeframe. LOVING these videos and all that is vicariously shared. Blessings, mAKg.

      That's a really good idea. Make that long term goal and break it into shorter ones. I swear it's the only way I've been able to make it through life. Sometimes those shorter goals are ..."Get out of bed today"....😂😂. And then we can work on saving money and not buying crap we don't need. hahaha. That's really exciting Deborah because you know 2022 is coming up fast!

      Hello Michael! Thank you! There's no pain involved in making these videos. Jim and I made a promise to each other that we would only do.....what we would normally do, and it became a creative outlet for us instead of an income. If that makes sense. It's all about perspective. Thank you again for hanging out with us!

    A magical enchanting and heartwarming video! Wondrous! What the Dalton does though, in my opinion anyway, is invite you to the joy and delight of the wilderness; before you is a vista of wonder and joy; but to your sides is it's real magic; countless miles of painfully beautiful wilderness, misty forests, frost kissed mountains, tundra and plains that invite you to explore. The wilderness that expands after the horizon of the Dalton is truly one of the finest experiences that can be imagined. And the further you go into the wilderness the more it embraces you and the more contentment it brings to your soul. Indeed the Dalton does offer extreme isolation. But the wilds that expand along it's flanks offer perfectly extreme isolation. And perfectly peaceful enchantment. In my respectful opinion anyway! Thanks very much for yet another enthralling video! Oh! And as always, very impressive cooking and culinary skills too!

    Fantastic adventure video you two! I have to admit that you're really finding your stride with these last few videos. Not only did you give us a great history lesson, but you showed us unique features to the area you're exploring that I found not only informative, but also very interesting. The granite outcroppings were impressive, as were the toothpick trees. I understand that they grow like that because they are almost always under snow, so there's no benefit to branches, but they sure do look bizarre when I'm used to massive trees. The narration is top notch, and comical when Ember is walking around with her nails clicking. It makes it more personal and homey. There's no reason to distill things to the point where it feels like it's a sanitized studio production. I think it's awesome that you get to see these fantastic places, and that you take us all along with you. The fuel issue seems like it could get away from you depending on tank size. I'm not sure if you've ever told us about your fuel capacity, but have you thought about putting in a bigger tank to give you more peace of mind when traveling these really remote locations? The Arctic Circle has always been a place I've imagined visiting someday. It's incredible that you're able to go out and see that and there aren't even millions of people around. Sucks that all the animals are hiding due to the endless sunlight, but I have to laugh when you're saying that you're sweating when it's in the 60's. I'm still cold when it's in the 60's. 80's is where it's at for me, or higher. Anyway, take care and keep up the amazing work you've been doing!

    • @WingsandWheelsAlaska
      @WingsandWheelsAlaska  4 года назад +1

      It's funny because whenever we edit we find ourselves asking each other "I wonder if anyone will notice that?" Because there's either subtle humor that means something only to us, or little Easter eggs in there that aren't intended but we find them while editing. You are usually the first person to point out those details and I love that!!!! It's hard enough to obsess over what content to share, the smaller details I tend to leave in for that exact reason and it warms my heart to hear it doesn't go unnoticed. We plan to start carrying more fuel when we leave the State. Alaska relies so heavily on the few road systems we have that fuel isn't too difficult to find. We also have the option of putting an auxiliary tank on but not sure it's worth it. Don't forget 60 degrees up here feels hotter than 60 degrees in the mid-west! It's HOT. When it hits 80 degrees Alaska has a "feels like" temperature of around 100 +. When the sun doesn't go down the earth doesn't get the chance to cool off. I'll take on Lower 48 8o degrees any day. I hope you're doing well and hanging in there. I'm off from flying until August so we should have the change to really enjoy Alaska since we're "stuck" here. 😁. Talk again soon. xoxo

      Hmm, i think we do this over time, not sure if it's in one specific video but we do cook every night. We have no need for AC, we've used it once. and for sleep? We push a button, the bed drops from the ceiling, we wake up, Jim steps outside for 10 minutes while I clean myself up and push the button to raise the bed back up. Great Question and I hope I answered it correctly.

    The scenery is wonderful with the mountains and even the tundra -- I suppose that just goes on and on. Sure do hope to get to Alaska sometime sooner than later now but this years plans are put on hold for a while at least. You probably have mentioned it in a video that I haven't watched yet but does your windshield have a ding and a crack in it? I know our truck caught a rock from a vehicle going in the opposite direction while out touring the country in the Southwest on a gravel road 3 years ago, and we were watching for vehicles that were passing us or following to closely. There was no avoiding it. Can I presume that you would not let your dog swim in a river that you showed late in the video from the drone as it might be too cold or fast flowing for her? We have one dog that absolutely loves the water, the other one not nearly as much. Safe travels.

    • @WingsandWheelsAlaska
      @WingsandWheelsAlaska  4 года назад

      Hi Michael. I've forgotten which video the rock smash occurred in but it's been a few months. We took a rock coming at us from a snow plow. Even though we pulled to the side and slowed down when we saw it coming it was HUGE coming straight for us. I'm surprised it didn't come all the way through. In our 1 year review of the van I list the windshield as one of the things I don't like about the Revel. It's a magnet for rocks. We have quite a few chips and the crack is spreading and that's okay. It gives it character. We will leave it for now and get it replaced sometime this summer. And yes, many of the rivers have currents too strong from Ember. So today for example, we went out of our way to find Ember a pond she could play in while we had lunch..She's like a little kid out there, swimming and looking back at us to make sure we haven't left her. Thank you for coming along with us! xoxox

    When you're driving basically all day on a dirt road, have you noticed an improvement in the sound level since the big insulation project? Also, you commented again that the camera doesn't come close to capturing the beauty of the scenery. If your camera is capable of accepting screw-on lens filters, a Skylight (not UV) filter may help, and a polarizing filter would probably help even more. The downside of the polarizer would be when shooting video from a moving vehicle, it would lose it's effect each time you change orientation to the sun. Maybe some experienced photographers/videographers can weigh in here...

    • @WingsandWheelsAlaska
      @WingsandWheelsAlaska  4 года назад +1

      Hi John, sometimes I wonder if it's the camera of human inability. I would love to hear from professionals because I'm clueless. I think it's because I'm using my Cannon 5O because it has the microphone. My 6D takes filters but it's so heavy when I use it while driving it's bouncy. We have a Ronan Gimble to put it on, but then again, we shoot from the hip and I use my phone a lot too. The filters is an excellent suggestion and I'll look into it. A behind the scenes look into what I'm talking about though. I enjoyed that day, it was great! But I had to have a heart to heart with Jim. He is used to flying up that road. Mostly chasing or running from weather. He was flying on this day and I was getting exhausted from not stopping and trying to capture the beauty. Which as you can see from a moving vehicle is hard! That night I told Jim. "I'm not going to try to capture anything with a camera anymore unless with are standing on solid ground, which means you will have to stop more". 😂.

      Hello Nickolai, we have only used the AC twice. Once when we bought it and stayed at the dealership and the second time was in Valdez at a campground. We mostly stay off grid and the max air fan has done well up into the 90’s F. Hope that helps. I am sure at some point we will use it more. Those who do use it often while off grid have a generator and we just haven’t gone that route yet. Hope that helps!

      Hallo Doris und Hans. Zwischen den Wartungsarbeiten liegen ungefähr 20.000 Meilen. Wir haben keine Probleme mit diesem Wartungsplan. Wir sind auf vielen unserer Reisen sehr allein. Wir vermissen es, mit anderen Menschen zu reisen, und das werden wir in unserem nächsten Video tun. Na wenigstens für ein Abenteuer. Wir hoffen, es geht Ihnen gut und freuen uns von Ihnen zu hören! Bleib sicher!

      Yes it did! Most of the Northern cities have plug in's in the winter for engine block heaters for cars. The turn off the electricity to them in the summer when the motorhomes arrive, however, one year when we had our Class A motorhome we were in Fairbanks and we plugged in because the inverter wasn't working and we had power! The best bet you have with Carlos is to start taking him into what you're interested in. I don't think Jim had ANY interest until one day I said "Hey, lets look inside that!". It's actually an interesting story how I convinced him into a van. I really really hope they open the borders but, it's not looking promising. Our numbers have spiked but nobody is really coming out and saying it's a "second wave" we went from 0 new cases per day to 20+ new cases per day after reopening. Flights are full coming in to Alaska which I'm happy about, but not happy with the numbers I"m currently seeing. Time will tell I guess.. Miss you girl. xoxo

    Great video! Did you air down on the Dalton? If so, to what psi?

      Thank you Victor. I know it might sound crazy but no we don't air down. There's too many variables on the road to air down for. (The Dempster Highway is a different story). Thank you for watching.

    Just wanted to say with Jim’s cooking, I don’t believe I would’ve missed the restaurants too bad. I believe his meals would be as good as anything that the restaurants head. I think the restaurants have over that would be just socialization with other people.

      Agreed! When we stopped at those two places to eat in the past, we didn't have the ability to cook! We were on our motorcycles with tents and campfire food. But the cooks they hire at those camps to feed the truckers are Top Notch. I know this is going to sound odd, that's why I didn't mention it in our last video when we went to a restaurant together, but what I miss about restaurants is Jim and I sitting together and enjoying something else someone else made and having it brought to us, draft beers that don't go empty. It's that part of "normal" that I miss. We can go back into the public right now, I would just rather not. Especially in these rural communities that don't have medical services. Time will tell what happens but for now Jim's meals are ahhhmazing. He made me blackened salmon on the grill last night and I was in heaven. (That will be shown in a few weeks...😁). Stay well Terry. xoxo

    Id be worried about road hazards..running out of fuel..hitting an animal..but other than that..pretty cool! 4x4 is idea!❤

      Eh, no point in worrying about those things. Be prepared? Sure. But you know we aren't those super hard core Overlanders who go out and get stuck and lost on purpose right? So we're good. 😂. All those other things can happen anywhere. What makes me feel secure is knowing we aren't so remote we won't see anyone for weeks. We have a bed, food, toilet, and all the goodies until we fix the problem ourselves or someone finds us. Jim's super good at Math so I doubt we will ever run out of fuel. 😂😂😂💁🏻‍♀️😘

      That's all we really need right? Some solar power, a clean river and a place to potty. Mother Nature provides the show. :)
