      Oh man, I will never ever forget the feeling I felt as we came up over that pass. It felt like the entire universe opened up to me. It was like a kid taking off in an airplane for the first time, or the feeling of having your training wheels taken off. xoxo

    4x4 plus traction boards can probably push you guys further to reach the lake but then again it’s your call, I guess we just wanna see you taking advantage of the four wheel drive to see it’s capabilities. What an amazing adventure.

      If we had a winch we would have tried for sure but the snow was up over Jim's knee. Our goal is to have a winch installed by fall. We were just too remote with too little traffic to take a big risk. Hope you are staying safe!

    Mosquito life at the Arctic Circle campground is the worst we ever experienced. They found a miniscule gap around the window cranks and we had over a hundred inside with us by 2:00 am. That campground was started by a private company and abandoned before completion. We wondered if the tiny creatures carried off the job foreman. The state took it over but never really developed it. Also of note there used to be another spruce farther north but someone took a chainsaw to it for probably no good reason. Enjoying our trip back this year through your videos. Thanks and as always, well done.

    • @WingsandWheelsAlaska
      @WingsandWheelsAlaska  4 года назад +1

      I Laughed SOOO hard when you asked if they took the foreman. 😂. We didn't tell the story behind the campground. The first day we pulled into it to check it out (in our last video we said, it was kind of cool but wasn't really where we wanted to be). Well, a couple of families had taken over three of the spots and when we pulled in to look at the one next to them which was really a flat spot in the woods, we sat there for a moment to get a feel for it and it was VERY clear the family didn't want us there. They had kids that walked down the road holding hands in a chain (it was actually quite bizarre to watch. They put their bike ramps in the middle of the drive so we couldn't drive past their spots...It was an interesting experience. On the way back it was empty (except the people target practicing next to us) We figured it was raining hard enough to keep the mosquitos down but nope. I didn't know the history of that campground, it's interesting. I can say I will never stay the night there again. Thanks for hanging out with us again today and reading this very long winded story. xoxo

    Beautiful videos! Loved going over Antigun Pass again. We got to stay in Galbraith Lake both on the way up and down. Really a nice place to stop. We had rain on the trip up from Fairbanks and we stopped at the Yukon River Camp both ways also. Good clean water at the campground. We drove both, the Dalton and the Dempster Highways on our way to the Arctic Ocean and the Dalton was much prettier.

    • @WingsandWheelsAlaska
      @WingsandWheelsAlaska  4 года назад

      We had a ton of extra snow this year :(. We were so bummed we couldn't get past the drifts up there at Galbraith. They were around 3 to 4 feet of soft snow. If we had a winch we would have tried and we plan to remedy that soon. We found the same thing, we absolutely think the Dalton is the prettier side overall. The mountains at the beginning of the Dempster were beautiful and we enjoyed the ferry rides lol.

    One of your best video. Loved it. Have decided to head to Alaska in my Revel. Boat and drive to Seward. Wild life viewing and fish in Southern Alaska. Want to drive theRevel to as close to Gate of the Arctic NP as possible. Camp etc then hike float plane into the park. Any suggestions? Help. Also what is the make of your small grill? I have so many questions but will keep watching all of your videos Great video as always. Regards Roger from New Mexico.

      The grill we use is a Char Broil. It is compact enough it sits in the walkway while driving and we can pull it out wherever we stop. We have really liked having it as another option so far for cooking a broader range of food. You can actually park right at the entrance to Gates of the arctic and hike in from the Dalton Highway. We plan to do that at some point but this visit we were dodging storms and knew one was coming in from the north so wanted to get back south before it got too bad.

    Lotta beautiful scenery in this one. But I also keep thinking how desolate it looks out there, and what if you broke down. But I noticed you never saw any trucks in your video but you talked about pulling over and letting them buy at one point. So I take it there is a semiconstant flow of traffic, Even though they may be spaced out a half hour hour apart? Ember was funny always looking for her water, I laughed when she was padding around in the water on top of the ice. In the morning that you had to get up at 7 AM. He kept glancing over at gym like you were ready to kill him. But see if you hadn’t got up so early you would’ve missed that one Caribou. I think that was the only animal you saw on the trip, or at least the only one you got on video. Oh and Jim’s sounds of Alaska, I’ laughed to myself when the first gunshot went off.I miss the live streams that you all were doing, they were fun.

    • @WingsandWheelsAlaska
      @WingsandWheelsAlaska  4 года назад +2

      In a normal world there used to be.a somewhat consistent flow of traffic. People from all over the world would ride their motorcycles up here or their vans and RV's just to take on that road. In the past I'd say it's safe to say you'd see someone else about every half hour. On this trip? We went for an entire day with only seeing one other truck going the opposite direction. If we broke down? We would be fine. We have food, water, toilet. Also the road construction does occur along the entire road so someone would come across us. I hope we get the chance to do a live stream this weekend. The only reason we haven't is cell service. They were easier to do in the winter when we were sitting around cozy and warm. And yes, I'm thankful I got to see that one lonely Caribou that must have done something naughty to be kicked out of his herd. :).We also saw a muskox (alone) that showed up on the drone in the video but we didn't want to get too close to it, so you may have missed that. We saw a ton of moose. But Bear....Nope, it always amazes me how many people are Terrified to go into the wild because of "bears". we have not seen one real life bear since last summer. And certainly nothing up close and personal. Those were fresh bear tracks in the mud but we didn't see the bear. Thanks for hanging out with us again Terry. I always enjoy hearing what you have to say. xoxo

    • @WingsandWheelsAlaska
      @WingsandWheelsAlaska  4 года назад

      Peg, I think we should cover that within an upcoming video because it all changed over time. We started with a Cannon 6D that I only used for photography. It was fairly large and clunky and hard to get smooth shots so we ended upgrading to a few other gadgets including one with a mic for windy areas. This is great idea! I think Jim listed a few the cameras we use in the description if you want to compare to others. I like each one for different reasons and we have narrowed the ones we use the most down to....my iPhone 11 Pro plus. 😁. The DJI Osmo is great for gimble smooth shots. but horrible for sound and getting a shot lined up specifically because the screen is really small. g7x was good for awhile but prefer our most recent I think its a Cannon EOS 5 with a Rhode mic. That cameras limitations are smoothness and zoom. It's strictly for vloggin and capturing sound. When you're just starting out we have a ton of advice, the camera you have at first does't really matter as much but it will. I think what I'll do is a supplemental mid-week video to show the progression from beginning to now. Great idea! :)

    • @pegbrady225
      @pegbrady225 4 года назад

      Wings and Wheels Alaska omg thank you! I was looking into the Canon EOS 5, based on one video you did off the Northern lights. I bought the iPhone 11 Pro when it came out and love it! My most recent solo trip on my Harley Davidson touring the South West March through April, I bought the Mavic Mini drone and saw Jim in box his when I started watching you videos......I look at you reflections in your windows to see things evolve, your mic, etc etc! Yes you should do a segment, I went back to your videos from a year ago to see how you started, wow your whole style, presentation has evolved into some beautiful presentations. So then I started to think maybe you hired a professional editor? The music is better, the voice over as a observer is easier on us, your voice, cadence is smooth on the ears, again so is your music selection, even no music, the rest, silence is so effective. I’m 4x4vagaryempress on IG, and just starting to capture the beginnings of my new journey in my Revel to be delivered in Jan, I traded my Harley, paid down some bills to get the Revel. Thank you, loved your rookie videos! I learned a lot already and will skip some things, based from those past videos!

      @WingsandWheelsAlaska  4 года назад

      The candles and torches suck with these mosquitos. I'm pretty sure they're immune. I had a candle burning and the mosquitos were so bad they were landing and dying in the wax and hanging out on the side of the candle. 😂. They're not bad in small doses, but when there's swarms of them buzzing around you, they may not land and bite because of bug spray, but they wills are hover in front of your face like a f'ing humming bird and drive you mad. That would be amazing it you got a van. There's a cool site called Conversion Trader. It's kind of like RV Trader but it's for vans. They're kind of pricey on that site but it give you an idea of what's out there. Your best bet is to take him to look at a few and step inside to experience the comfort and check out quality. I haven't gotten him back on his Birthday. We were by a river fishing and he was sleeping in the van. I got up early, made coffee and was annoyingly perky...... I saw animals that morning he made me get up so early, so I kind of forgave him. Hows the land situation? Have you guys been live? We've been in and out of cell service. Hahaha, it was a true Holy Shit moment. I want to go again. We usually do it in about 4 days. I'd like to spend a week or more in that area. We end up weather chasing every time, but next time I want to spend more time in one spot. Great to hear from you again! xoxo.

Let’s face it the only way I’ve seen the dalton was Ice Road Truckers and a few other shows about Alaska, I’d like to send you two of my books. Do you have some kind of P.O. Box or something? They are available on amazon too. LIve confidently and peacefully

      Hi John. You will have to tell us more about your books. We don't have a PO Box yet. We have recently looked into one.. I also created a new email for RUclips but I've already forgotten what it is. All those little things like creating a website we haven't gotten around to. Try emailing Jim at Jspies78@gmail.com. Thank you for spending some time with us. See you soon. xoxo

    I watch RUclips on a large screen TV with Surround sound, When those two gun shots went off My dog went running to the bedroom. You guys are lucky that you guys have only Experienced One incident On May 30, 2020, people in Juneau, Alaska carried signs opposing violence against African Americans and institutional racism. My dog use to never be afraid of gun fire.

      Hi Nocturnal. Can you explain further? Ember was in the van when the gun shots were going off and she was hiding under the bed. Campers were shooting off rounds in the campground. Ember still hid behind the couch when we were editing. She's not much of a "hunting dog".
      We don't shoot "for fun" because when a firearm is part of your job it's not exactly recreational. Could you explain your comment a little further please? I'm confused .💁🏻‍♀️😁

      Oh my gosh. I’m soooo sorry your baby got upset. ☹️. You’re correct. We are kind of used to gunfire but not randomly. Especially in a campground. Our protests have all been peaceful but we are not exempt from worldly issues. ❤️. Again, hugs to your doggie. I’m sorry.

    Lets start off with the great ease-in of your video. Nothing dramatic, nothing loud, just drone footage in silence, and a smile generated as you sped up the driving footage as you were rounding a bend. There goes Jim taking a corner on two tires again! It's funny to think about when you're not having to experience it for real. The video format is greatly improved and I applaud the long duration of this video. I've never been one to enjoy short videos because they always left me wanting more. It's kind of like when Clark Griswold and family visit the Grand Canyon. Here's the clip: ruclips.net/video/AqNwo2NpmGY/видео.html why would someone take the time out of their day to show amazing scenery and then just leave it so abruptly? I'm so happy that you took the time to scope out the places you were at and that you shared the sign about where are all the animals at? I love Jim's sense of humor when it comes to the sounds of Alaska! Turned up the volume to hear what on earth he was recording, and then he pops off two shots with his sidearm. Genuinely made me smile. This video's incredible narration has proven that you have improved with every iteration of your editing style. Thank you for taking the time to put out longer videos, thank you for taking the time to explain what it is we're looking at, and thank you for taking the time to bring us all along on your magnificent adventures! If there were one thing I wish I could get into your filming arsenal it would be a gimbal for your cameras. I have one for my iPhone that I use religiously. A gimbal smoothes out video footage. I think you ought to consider one in the future. You'll love how your videos seem to float and glide. Keep up the great work you two are doing, and I hope you get to see that lake soon. I can't imagine that snow being there much longer if it stays in the 70's.

      Brian- Clark Griswold is my favorite. I was once asked in some random training I was in..."If you could pick a famous celebrity family to adopt you, who you you pick?" I didn't have a creative answer. I'm thankful for my dysfunctional family. But then Clark Griswold popped into my head because that was kind of my life growing up. Except my dad was a lot meaner then Clark but the escapades were still there 😂. Anyways, Thank you for the detailed, positive and constructive feedback. When we were editing it and Jim put in the shooting noises I said, "You're going to give someone with PTSD some issues!!". And...when all that was going on in the campground Ember was SOOOOO upset hiding under the bed (great hunting dog she is huh?). it was other campers target practicing. We don't shoot anything that small....or at metal. 😂. Jim think's he's hilarious. As for the camera shake YES! We have the nice expensive Ronan Gimbal for our camera that creates smooth shots. We even have a camera with a built in gimbal. One of our subs in the beginning who was very loyal actually abruptly left us one time because of our camera shake. We took that kind of personally and went out and got the gimbal. We spent some time with smooth shots, but then came the issue of sound. Our good mic is on our "V logging camera" and the others are just for scenery. I tend to pick up the V logging camera for quick shots when I shouldn't. I can't remember if I told you the behind the scenes on this trip. The last video we spent way too much time driving. The only communication style that worked for me to get Jim to stop was "Hey, can I drive?" Jim "Well, I kinda want to get there before midnight". Me. "Ok, well great, I'm not picking the camera up again until you stop. You're a Master Marksman, you know how hard it is to shoot from a moving vehicle right????" So STOP THE DAMN VAN AND I'LL CAPTURE IT!" It was really amusing. It will be fun to watch the progression and learning all this stuff as we go....and stay married to each other. 😂. We will go back up that way, probably this fall. I'd like to block out an entire week up there and next time, don't be weather chasers. We have chased the weather every time up there, next time, I'd like to just wait it out. I've heard of people getting stuck for days on that road when it shuts down. I wouldn't mind that. Great to hear from you Brian. Hope everything is going well for you. xoxo

    The vastness is just mind boggling and the pipeline is such a feat in engineering. Its a sight to see but also an eyesore at the same time (can't have it both ways I guess)
    So you shoot mosquito's (Alaskan's having fun). Good thing they are not community orientated like Ants, then they might hunt in packs and take you or the van away :-).
    Does anyone know what useful purpose Mosquito's provide? They can spread disease, they bite, they are just a plain nuisance worldwide.

    • @WingsandWheelsAlaska
      @WingsandWheelsAlaska  4 года назад +1

      The mosquitos have been bad up here this year. The wetter the season the worse they are until we get out first freeze around august time frame. That wasn't Jim shooting lol. When we pulled into our campsite there were a few people up the hill from where we were popping off shots for hours. Ember was so unhappy that is why she stayed in the van. Just typical Alaska....
