    You guys inspired me to come up to AK in August. My long haul Covid keeps me from long distance driving, so I left my camper van in Minnesota, flew into Anchorage, and rented a Subaru, put camping gear and a cooler in it, and explored the Kenai Peninsula. I did a few tourist-y things, like go through the longest tunnel, buy a boat ticket in Seward to see whales, walrus and puffins, go up the gondola in Girdwood, drive up to Hatcher's Pass on the way to Palmer and the State Fair for a concert and look at huge at enormous vegetables (I previously worked for 4-H in MN), and rode the Hurricane Train from Talkeetna up North.
    I am planning to come back to go to Fairbanks, North Pole, and Denali National Park.
    Thank you for all of your inspiration and beautifully put together video. This one is no exception!

      @@WingsandWheelsAlaska Alaska is a huge state, there is too much to see in just one trip. We want to come to Fairbanks next time, and also try to make it to Denali. We only made it as far north from Anchorage to Talkeetna in our rental car, then north on the Hurricane train on their last whistle stop journey of the summer. It rained downpours the whole train trip, so there wasn't much to see. My daughter and I would love to visit North Pole. We had an Airbnb in Girdwood last time, and my daughter didn't want to move our home base, so we stuck around Anchorage. I did get my little DIY camper van! It's not sturdy enough to do Alaska as it's old, and 2 wheel drive.

    I fully approve of buying Bison meat. I've grown to prefer it over beef. I also loved seeing Jim zoom away on the shopping cart like it was a dog sled! That Earthroamer is my dream RV. If only I had a cool 1.3 million dollars for one. I'm surprised to see Cynthia get a sunburn as she's the one always telling us to stay happy, healthy, and safe, and here she goes and cooks herself! 🤣 Thanks for filming the Finger Mountain sign. I love being able to pause the video and read everything they put on the signs. It's always impressive to see the Sun up at midnight, and thanks to YOU I know what Fire Weed is and every time I see it in your videos I think of you making honey out of it!
    I laughed a little at Cynthia's comment about the water being the size of Delaware. The funny part of it is that you've likely only gotten to see 10% of Alaska because roads don't go through most of it. I always thought we need to fire up the CCC again and have them fix that. There are many National Parks in Alaska that have no roads at all, and are only easily accessible by flying with bush pilots. Alaska is enormous, but roads only show an itty-bitty little bit of it. Think about it. You can't even show us your Capital without hopping on a ferry. Same goes for showing us Kodiak Island. I'll always marvel at the wild Alaska. I look forward to you two pushing into new areas in 2024!

    • @WingsandWheelsAlaska
      @WingsandWheelsAlaska  11 месяцев назад +2

      I agree. We mostly show the road access areas of Alaska because it just seems weird to show the places we fly to. We have been to most villages in Alaska but do people want to see the places we fly into? How do we sink that up with what we do on the road. Those are the questions we ask ourselves most often.
      You have probably noticed we have been pivoting our image more to overland for that reason. So when we fly into places we can take random vehicles out and showcase those areas rather than just focusing on the van.

      Good morning John. The bolts to the frame are the same as the stock ones. Only the shock is different so it happens with or without upgraded suspensions.
      Recommend the Baja brackets from van compass or the equivalent from Agile off road.

    Yes, I realize how big Alaska is. Although I'm sad that I couldn't come with you guys, I am glad you keep posting videos of the midnight sun while I'm here in MN, teaching adaptive ski lessons in 0F weather, complete with toe warmers, and holding out for the days, which are finally getting longer. I was thankful for the long summer days in August, as I prefer driving in AK with some daylight. I would like to ski Alyeska at some point, as well, so I'm glad you have such a big state!
    Do you have any idea if it is possible to rent a Revel in AK?

    • @WingsandWheelsAlaska
      @WingsandWheelsAlaska  11 месяцев назад

      He Brenda, renting a revel itself is unlikely but there are several overland rentals and van rental companies here in Alaska.
      The prices may seem steep but much cheaper than hotels and rental vehicles.

Glad y'all are road worthy. Myself and my wife are doing just fine here in NC. I hope y'all are well up north. Well, I'm going to get moving and I'll chat with y'all next weekend. Stay happy, healthy and safe. Sending out virtual hugs for all 4 of you.

    Do you know what caused the shock bolt(s) to fail? Just constant pounding and a few pot holes? When we were last at finger mountain, we almost blown out of the parking lot by the wind.... The eco system up there is so fragile.... love the sunset

    • @WingsandWheelsAlaska
      @WingsandWheelsAlaska  11 месяцев назад +1

      Think it was just the 4 years of pounding on it with the weight. Supposedly pretty common failure over time. Both van compass and agile have reinforcements for the bolts and we recommend them. We will see how much longer they last over time though.
