OMG IT'S AN HOUR AND A HALF LET'S GOOOO
Very great theory crafting, most parts I agree, but I do think that Zack's survival is unintentional by Sephiroth and a last ditch effort by the whispers and maybe even Minerva to balance the scales of fate. Zack is in another timeline yes, and we don't know which Cloud will end up taking up the cross so to speak later in the game.
I think Zack will be laser focused on reuniting with Aerith, but little by little Zack will be getting hints of what's really going on perhaps through Angeal, Minerva, and maybe he will have his own cohort of allies Which could include these characters ( Cissnei, Kunsel, Luxiere, Kyrie, Leslie, Evan, potentially Sonon meaning that Yuffie may have been the one who died in that timeline and Sonon survived. Also I think other player Turks from Before Crisis could be involved as well as Elfe).
The Cloud in Zack's timeline could very well end up taking the other Cloud's place. There are too many wildcards in the mix now that compilation characters will need to be factored in as they said new compilation characters other than the ones already introduced.

I still think that every scene with the dead characters is happening in the lifestream world in their dream state, which is slowly becoming a nightmare while Jenova is corrupting their consciousness as she turns them into whispers. Zack died thinking he has to protect Cloud and so his dream state starts with it, and so in that dream Cloud was not with Avalanche. I also think the scene with Jessie dancing was her own dream state after her death. Biggs experiencing survival guilt is the start of the corruption. They will encounter Aerith in the lifestream later and she will purify them and ask them for help to stop the meteor, manifesting as the lifestream in the OG.
Personally, Sephiroth's end goal seems obvious to me. He wants to reach the realm of the creator as what he mentioned in the edge of creation and he can only do that by activating Omega.
Jenova succeeded in decommissioning Omega in Dirge of Cerberus so she attained her goal of having the lifestream for herself. After consuming all the lifestream in Gaia, she went on to the other planet - the one in the movie Final Fantasy - The Spirit Within 😅 . In that movie is another posibility of how Sephiroth is planning on combining both worlds hehe
Sephiroth, originally a puppet of Jenova, only regains his freedom after the OG and doesn't like Jenova's end goal because it means his own demise so he rebelled. The Remake was his 1st step towards his goal - weakening Jenova a.k.a Harbinger, and gaining control of the whispers which are basically the corrupted lifestream. His next stop is to combine both worlds, meaning destroying the planet so all lifestream will be merged as one and this saturation will activate Omega as it did in Dirge of Cerberus.
Omega is a fail safe system that will collect redeemable lifestream when the planet is in danger and return it to the Creator and Sephiroth is planning on hitching a ride 😅
The lifestream particles are also shown when an enemy dies. I’m not sure if this is for mechanical reasons OR if this is to show that just seeing lifestream particles doesn’t always mean there’s life, but also death.

Wow Vyzz’s theory is probably the best ive heard and im kinda a firm believer in that now until the game comes out. Could lead to that specific cloud killing aerith and leading to a cloud fight off at the end of rebirth.
Also I don’t believe those are whispers, just debris.

I'm also leaning towards Cloud turning into an enemy right at the very end when he gives in to Sephiroth's manipulations.

Cloud will not kill Aerith, maybe he will kill Tifa.
watched several theory videos over the years plus the new trailers released only made me more confused LOL. I will just wait 2 months from now and find out 😏
The Couded Horizon- Conspicuous Absense, the grouping is actually depended on factors outside the fight. In my playthrough, instead of Barret I got Aerith and Tifa. Sometimes it's Barret and Tifa, or even Barret and Aerith.
Oh, I know, but that's later in the fight, specifically against Sephiroth, and who joins in which order depends on how and with whom you fight against Whisper Harbinger. In this video, I'm talking specifically about their first appearances. Cloud will always encounter Barret and Tifa first, then Aerith and Red XIII.

Great theories… now i want to play rebirth plus play remake again
I enjoyed this video, nice analysis as always. I’m not convinced about certain details though, such as the Whispers in the news video. They could just be particle effects, and their movement and sometimes disappearing through objects could just be because it is hardly noticeable in a very chaotic and dense CGI scene. They don’t have unlimited resources to fix all these tiny details.
And as you pointed out, we see these in a news video rather than directly. In Remake, it is clear that only certain people can see the Whispers directly, usually when they are attacked or interacted with by the Whispers or someone else who has been. So, it would be strange for them to appear in video footage imo, unless we are seeing the video through the eyes of someone who could previously see the Whispers - though that would also be a slightly weird mechanic.
I think if they were actually Whispers, the developers would have wanted them to be more obvious and either provided a clearer shot, or made sure they didn’t feature in trailer footage if they wanted to keep it under wraps for now.
Or they just didn't think we'd notice. Or they deliberately showed that scene to keep us guessing. If so, it worked.
Seeing it through somebody's eyes with the sight watching that news broadcast is the most sensible assumption. Or everybody can see the whispers in Zack's continuity.
Now this is a breakdown. Super thorough and explorative but not over the top verbose and speculative.
While im not saying they arent whispers.... im not fully convinced. I know they said they will return but i dont think this is a case of seeing them.
Maybe the reason we see barret and tifa then aerith and red is because they arent actually together and we sre seeing 2 different areas. Implying barret and tifa were together somewhere else than aerith and red. Maybe aerith and red escaped shinra togetehr without barret and tifa's help? A long stretch but we could be seeing to dofferent areas cut together to imply they were together when in reality they were not.
The thought of Cloud walking off to the reunion in Zack's timeline is EXACTLY what i thought the basis for Zack's story is going 5o be about. Going after and finding Cloud.
I guess Cloud's sector 5 lines up with Zack's sector 2.
OMG FINALLY SOMEONE LISTENED/SAW!!!!! The connection between Zack and Aerith with the Stomachebin knotts scene. Ive beenbtalking sbout it like crazy and NOONE either thinks anything of it or gets the connection. Thank you sooo much for calling it out, i feel like no one has notoced or listened.
That's an interesting thought, them not being in the same location, though I doubt that this part of the trailer is a misdirect. When switching to Red XIII, the camera zooms in, implying that this scene is actually one single shot but they cut out a segment for the trailer only.
I can understand people being skeptical about the Whispers in this scene and the lack of seeing a reason and purpose for why they're there is the main reason for not talking about them more in this video. However, I cannot come up with an alternative for what those "particles" actually are, so I will be sticking with Whispers for now.
The easiest explanation for the tornado hitting sector 2 is that it happened in Zack's continuity where things do not have to line up. See Terrier Stamp and News Today, for example. I think that's the main purpose, to clearly distinguish those 2 continuities.
Regarding Aerith's stomach in knots paralleling Zack returning to the church is something I've brought up in Game Analysis #27 already (if I remember correctly). I guess it depends on which parts of the community you frequent. Anyway, I'm glad I made you feel less lonely in that department :)

Interesting analysis. I don't buy the assertion that there are whispers in the explosion. The video evidence you presented was flimsy at best. Its just explosion debris. The whispers all vanished when the whisper dome went down. Also I think it's important to remember that the target audience is core gamers. They're going to want the average gamer to understand whats going on by the end. So I don't think theyre going to make a story thats hard to follow, or requires watching RUclips videos to understand it.
I think they're showing 2 timelines, with the colored feathers and beagle/terrier graffiti. It's clear that Seph/Aerith have knowledge of the OG story, and are acting accordingly to change the outcome. I think that's really all the deeper we need to go here. We see changes to the OG being fixed by the Whispers, and now the Whispers are gone. So it's clear that in Rebirth permanent changes can happen.
So the devs have given us this gift of playing FF7 for the first time all over again, where we really don't know what will happen. I think that is the heart of this entire FF7 project. IMO all speculation is in play and possible right now.
Personally if I was Sephiroth and still had the same goal, I would try to speed up Clouds mental break. I would absolutely NOT kill Aerith, but imprison her somehow. Tifa is the one to kill, as she is the only one that can bring Cloud back. Imagine if Sephiroth accomplishes all this in the ending of Rebirth.
The Whispers are defeated and gone from Cloud's continuity. But what about Zack's continuity? The Whispers can still be around there. In recent interviews, Hamaguchi even confirmed the return of the Whispers in some form. Also, putting the Whispers off as just debris is turning a blind eye to their clearly strange and inconsistent behaviour and movement, not to mention their shapes. What kind of debris would that be anyway that floats around high above Midgar in all directions and with different speeds and trajectories (consistent and changing) like this?
Plus, it's a trailer. We're lacking context. We're not meant to have all the answers and understand everything, not to mention casual players. Things will be made clear in the game itself and we're not there yet.
Regarding the switch-up between Aerith and Tifa: while logically sound, it would change the story drastically and that is something the devs have denied repeatedly. FFVII's core story will remain. They never said anything else and everything we've seen so far supports that (Remake, INTERmission, Rebirth trailers etc.). Maybe we will be led to believe that this is where they're going and in the end, it's always Aerith who dies, no matter how much everybody tries to change her fate. Only time will tell, I guess.
They aged Yuffie up to 19 according to SE website.
Having just checked her age is no longer listed... maybe I'm imagining the age thing but I could have sworn at some point she was listed as 19 officially...
Huh, that's weird. Maybe a mistake? Or a quickly abandoned retcon? We'll see, I suppose. They also changed Rufus' age from 25 to 30 if I remember correctly, so it is possible that they plan to do the same for Yuffie in an official capacity.
@@Vyzzuvazzadth On this note, did they change the age of Tseng in Remake? I think he was supposed to be like 35 when Remake starts which would make him no older than like 21 when Aerith is a little girl and started living with Elmyra. Just a question/thought.
