What’s the movie about?
When Riddick (Vin Diesel), a Furian mercenary, is recaptured by Toombs (Nick Chinlund), he is taken to a prison moon, Crematoria. However, Jack (Alexa Davalos), a girl Riddick rescued, is locked up in Crematoria as well, and she’s willing to escape.

@Jorgz Even though i disagree with that guy, how exactly being unable to do something as well as a professional makes you unallowed to criticize it? I can criticize a professional F1 driver when they make a dumb move, even though I've never driven an F1 car before.
I love how he kills the guy then turns to leave like nothing happened.

How this series did not become a genre unto itself is beyond me. Granted it's "Conan the Barbarian" in space, but it's still epic in it's own right.
Studios like to play it safe. Bland rom-coms, dull action movies, etc, is safe. I'm guessing this was a bit risky. damn shame
Riddick is one of my favorite characters.
I don't think the studio realized what they had here. They made the next movie about him hunting stupid monsters. That is NOT what makes this character intriguing.
A man in space with nothing but a knife is what makes him intriguing. They should have kept building on that idea. Instead, they flopped the last one with the stupid monster-hunting crap because that was similar to the first movie, so they thought that was the character's appeal.
Also, they should have left the fantasy out of it. Just a man in space. Like Mad Max, but in space.
The character doesn't need fantasy elements.

They missed a big opportunity with that stupid sequel of going back to kill weird monsters. The sequel should have been him reaching the under verse or whatever and him gaining the power similar to the lord Marshall then a civil war between his followers. Him vs vaco for a final battle using that speed run power. He’s the only one left standing and then continue the sequels of him kicking ass with his new powers

Karl Urban looks good in that armor. This reminds me of Skurge from Thor, and Dredd, and Eomer... Man this guy wears a lot of armors.

This flick is straight up pulp but with that 2000's edge to it. Not a lot of the critics understood that.
yo, not for nothing, ive seen plenty of movies that were good but critics downed played the movies like it was garbage, and vice versa, Ive seen plenty of movies that critics praised and the movies sucked.

Loved this movie. So many hated on it. Sure it's not pitch black but it has such an interesting mix of cultural scifi troupes. There's a bit of everything in here. A bit of firefly, a bit of star trek, Star wars. Even a bit of Farscape. The weapons, The outfits. I loved so much about the Riddick Universe.
Frankly, I've always liked it better than Pitch Black because of the art direction and the world building. Chronicles is just so over-the-top baroque in every way.
The main reason I wasn't a fan was because Pitch Black was this hard sci fi thing... and then we get this one which is "THERE'S MAGIC, AND EVERYONE KNOWS ABOUT IT, BUT NOBODY TALKS ABOUT IT!".
If the magic crap had ever been set up in the first movie... or present in the series AT ALL beyond this movie... it might've been "okay". But, it's just this sci fi setting where everything is grounded in reality... except the Necromongers, which are basically like fantasy-elves. It's jarring and nonsensical.
This is such an underrated movie. Its one of my favorite movies of all time
No cars in this movie but still more realistic than new F&F series :D

This has always been my favorite movie from the first time I watched it, I have seen this so many times and it never gets old. The Necromongers and the Underverse were some of the best ideas id seen, the only problem was we didn't get to find out as much as i would have liked about them.

One of the best contemporary sci fi epics. A pity Vin had to fund the sequel himself and reverted to the pitch black formula. Alan Dean Foster is an epic writer. Someone should take this forward

That is some awesome hairspray that keeps the hair upright even when he was wearing a helmet. Touch the hair and it punctures your hand. It's been a long time since I smelled beautiful could be taken a few ways.

This is one of those movies that if someone asks I'm like "yeah that's a bad movie" but I will watch and finish every single one when they come out or if they are on TV.

Actually the game and this movie was based off of the movie Pitch Black. Riddick was such an awesome character they made his own movie.. and Vin Diesel himself owns the video game company that made the game..

They should have kept this and many others in the film, it was only added in the Unrated/Director’s Cut version later. Made the plot/story better and easier to follow.

This was my favorite one.....Chronicles of Riddick, Pitch Black and lastly DArk Fury, the Animated 30min film, that film was really cool...introduced Toombs and already foreshadowed Kyras killer future
