Selflessly running toward danger, in his 70s, to help a fellow Aussie, who was sadly a very broken & violent person, says so much about this man. He's set an example of what it means to care about your community, to sacrifice your own safety, and sadly your own life, in service of another person. He didn't deserve to have his life taken so pointlessly and violently. Us Aussies all, should take pause and reflect on his legacy. Sisto was true blue.

I did not know this man, but he seemed to be a very genuinely community minded person. To know he was stabbed to death by the person he was selflessly going to help in the burning car...is such a tragedy. But...it shows me the character that this man was. Warm, caring, kind and loving. I'm sure he will be greatly missed.

I knew him well! When I heard this I was devastated. Currently I live abroad and was sent an e-mail by my sister of the deceased male identified as Sisto Malaspina. I saw the news in Australia from where I am offshore, I would never has guessed it to be Sisto....May God bless him and condolences to his family. For the record there are only three places on earth to get a great black coffee. Espresso or Americano: New York, Pellegrini's Melbourne, and any where in Sisto's country of origin. Italy. So sad....

What an insolent comment. What have you done for the community? He was a pioneer and a Melbourne icon. If you want a state funeral, get off the keyboard and earn it. You said it yourself 'Average Joe'.
