Good review Tish. The UK car market needs affordable vehicles like this as manufacturers like Ford and Vauxhall have abandoned this lower end of the market. Don't bother listening to all the silly negative and childish comments from sad men who live in their mum's basements and probably only take the bus when they are allowed out 😂

Owned one for 3500 miles so far. Comfortable, quick (7ish seconds to 60) quiet, relaxing to drive except the lane keep assist, good Sony stereo, heated and cooled seats as standard, 7 year warranty, fixed price service..... I compared it with a similarly powered and specd quahqai and the difference was £ 12000 .... the e power quashqai has a similar spec but is slower and in reality not much more economical on a run ..... mines done 45mpg average so far.
Finally, bear in mind that Omodas parent company has been making jaguar land rovers for Asia for the last 12 years and has probably learned a thi g or two ( hopefully including reliability)

Chery presently sells its Tiggo, Omoda and Jaecoo range of SUV's in South Africa and Australia. Jetour will follow by year-end. The Omoda 9, sold in the Middle East and Turkey as the Exeed, another Chery subsidiary, will reach S.A. in September. The Chinese competition in the S.A. market has seen Nissan withdraw the Qashqai as its sales plummeted. Even Ford, who introduced the Puma this year, have seen terrible sales figures of that vehicle and have brought in the Chinese sourced Territory SUV to stem the rot. South Africa is not set up for the adoption of EV's, as there are vast tracts of land that the infrastructure will never be able to reach. The Chinese are providing cost-effective ICE vehicles, and the legacy carmakers are struggling to compete.

sadly as someone who is currently looking at getting a larger vehicle, to give me enough space for my moutain bike without the use of a bike rack, which completely ruins the aesthetics and the fuel economy of the vehicle.
this without a hybrid and or a PHEV option does not appeal, partially with a salary sacfrifice deal the monthly payment would be nice and low aswell.

It's interesting to see something different but with not so great mpg, quite a high group of insurance at 34-35 and a relatively small boot to the size of the car I would say no especially when a qashqai or equivalent would have better boot space, even a Dacia duster has better boot space and you get more for less again.

Might flop before they even sell their first batch . Insurers have pinned a 32 catagory on base model , Has some goodies that more expensive cars have and a 7 yr warantee if the dealers last and all for 24 grand in base model, so i can see a low deposit along with a 3 yr lease helping to persuade a few uk buyers .

We have moved on from thinking “made in China” means “ready for the bin”, but still, cars made in China need proper time to prove themselves: Review this car again after 60,000 miles and 5 years, and see how much it costs in maintenance and repairs, what went wrong and so on,
THEN you can talk. Until then, you’re just like a magpie looking at shiny things.

This is a bitter candy in a fancy wrapper. Here in Russia we have lots of Chinese cars nowadays that people are buying in the absence of well-known brand competitors, but... these are lemons, mostly. Poor engineering, poor technical support, extremely expensive spare parts with long waiting times. The cars' performance leave better to be desired as well - jelly steering, weak brakes, lots of troubles with software and overall electronic modules...
These cars aren't built to last, they're just disposable items like a cheap smartphone. Their lifecycle is short and Chinese firms aren't going to support customers for years with spares and services as their Japanese, European or American rivals used to do. Your car is too basic, come buy some more expensive model; your car is already obsolete, come buy a new one - that's their proposed (and desired) solution to any problem.
And I'm even not starting a discussion on the numerous technical issues and engineering mistakes. You've mentioned it's a cheaper car - believe it or not, it is cheap for a reason. That car has not only fake exhaust - it's all fake.
Unfortunately, the aggressive marketing strategies and tons of money the Chinese are pouring onto the market yield the positive outcome. Among this there are lots of youtubers praising these cheap one-off imitations of a modern, reliable, well-equpped, safe vehicle.

bro your crazy, at that price, do you expect premium materials and products? if u expect these things than go and buy a bmw x3 and spend another 30k ontop of this car. This car is the best value and looks the best for its price segment. What you said makes zero sense. You want everything but also pay a cheap price. Wake up, this is already as good as we're gonna get. Give me another car at the same price or lower, with better interior plus looks as good as that exterior, i dare you. There isnt! Id be v happy with this car

Why is it that all these testers want to tell us about how nice , how quick, how comfy, 0-60, how many cup holders these new imported cars have compared to the normal cars on our English roads. But not one has said how they fair compared to the standard car on our road for safety , as Chinese & Japanese have been known for years not to stand up to EURONCAP testing and have performed badly. Me I will not buy a car that I cannot guarantee my family is safe in & seen the NCAP star ratings and checked exactly what they are. Come on tetsters/ presenters do your job better & give the public the truth about the safety of these foreign cars.
