It's disgusting how WWE treated London, Rene, and multiple other mega talented performers. They were willingly held down because of jealousy and pettiness.

I always think of what could have been with all the ruthless aggression era guys they flopped on. So much talent wasted purely due to the fact that the higher ups had massive ego's. Imagine guys like Rene and Paul in wwe today guiding the younger guys, it would be a much different product.

He's really delivering the goods. Some of these wrestler interviews on podcasts are paint by numbers, and they repeat old talking points. Nice to see something different.
His charisma and jokes is unmatched. It wild that WWE screwed this one up. Imagine the kinda of baby face he could have been. Like that guy that gets his ass kicked by the big guys. But keeps getting back up yo fight while throwing One Liners. Just imagine
That is one wholesome friendship if I ever saw one.

Fun fact: the match London is talking about where he busted himself open on the turnbuckle, won the match & then got beaten down by Chavo, was the very match/episode that got 14yr old me back into wrestling. I remember flipping through channels & I came to that episode of Smackdown & was blown away due to the way London wrestled. Haven't looked back since, so, thanks Paul! Great interview btw!

I can't stress enough on how amazingly phenomenal you were athletically, great worker, and as well a tremendous ring technician. I just couldn't understand how they dropped the ball on you, not seeing your true self worth as a talent then, and in my damn honest opinion Mr. Dupree, WWE never deserved you at all whatsoever dude! Thank you for all your contributions Sir, and blessing us with your craft in that squared circle!🙏

Not that I’ve ever worked there (obviously) but in my opinion, the greatest decision WWE has ever made was basically removing cannabis/THC off of the drug testing spectrum. If these brothers and sisters are expected to keep the elite athletic physiques AND the breakneck schedule, there has to be a way to release that also doesn’t cause the long-term damages of prescription medication or alcohol abuse.
Just a long-winded way of saying cannabis actually fucking helps and I wish it, and the people who chose to use it, weren’t so stigmatized for so long.

I always laugh when I go back and see these earlier episodes of the Cafe. Everyone is all starting out and bright eyes and bushy tailed lmao
1:13:58 - this story always gets me. That just could NOT have happened any other way. A dude who doesn't drink, refused a drink with Undertaker himself... no harm no foul.... later down the road, takes a random shot at the EXACT opportune moment that the Undertaker walks by. And then some other party that had jack shit to do with it takes advantage of that situation. See? Who says that being a pro wrestler isn't the same as a corporate job?
It was a great privilege growing up and getting to watch these two talents in the ring, much respect to René Duprée and Paul London

This was a genuinely entertaining interview.
I don't read. Imagine my surprise when I realized this was a 2-parter LOL. Heard part 2 first which I really enjoyed but part 1 hit the spot. Still laughing at the Boogyman/Richards story. This is definitely my favourite wrestling interview. Paul and Rene have incredible chemistry, are both great storytellers and no-bs, genuine guys. That's such a breath of fresh air in this industry. Keep em coming, James & Rene! And y'all got me playing Blues Clues trying to figure out which official made that racist comment to Rene🤔 1:15:08

This is an excellent interview! It answers a lot of questions on why wwe is garbage 90% of the time and why so many talented individuals leave.
I love listening to London rip on Matt Hardy lmao. He's also so right about agents being ppl who were never really over and yes men. Still mostly true in 2022.

40:15 After hearing the Stevie night heat , the cm punk ice cream bars thing and then paul making an elimination memorable, I see what WWE is good at. WWE is good at ripping superstars ideas away from them and claiming it as their own. They do this to either give that idea to said wrestler or another wrestler. They hate when the opportunities of no value they give to wrestlers ends up being memorable without them. Not having a hand in it to receive credit, makes them act the way paul described.
1:05:17 Batista should have never been a top guy. I remember the moment he became the top guy on Smackdown the entire show be came legitimately boring in terms of story, passion and drive. Its like Vince said “Everyone underneath Batista can not outshine him in wrestling or promos”. Which was alot to ask because Batista was average as hell. Thank you Rene saying what I have always suspected.

@@waxoftriple9 If you look at the layout of the show from Kurt Angle, Eddie Guerrero being the Top guy to Batista. You can see the drastic change in shows. Literally was like something sucked the life out of Smackdown.
I liked Batista when he debuted and then soon after I found out he only had five moves and I was done.
