While not a comics fan, per se, my wife has a small collection of solo series featuring her favorite female heroes (Wonder Woman, Ms. Marvel, Spider-Woman, etc.). I remember being in a random shop when my wife FINALLY completed her run of Dazzler, and she was so excited to cross that series off her list. But then the store owner asked her if she had the printer error version of Dazzler # 1...and her heart sank. I had never heard of it until that moment, but now she sent me on a quest. "FIND ME THE DAZZLER # 1 WITH THE B&W AD PAGES!!!" Since that time, I managed to find a mid-grade copy at a random convention and later upgraded her to a high grade copy. When I joke with her that we could make a killing selling the duplicate if/when Taylor Swift debuts as Dazzler, she screamed "They're BOTH mine!" A woman after my own heart!
When talking with two other collectors, we realized we actually all owned the blue galactus book. We joked about the fact that the regular one might be rarer.
Yeah, any comic that has a print run in the millions can't be rare. I have about 9 or 10 copies of that, bought when it came out. Read one, had a Deadpool card in it. The rest are still sealed lol. Worthless...
Whenever I see xforce 1 in dollar bins I get one for my brother since he told me they were hard to find. After giving him 15 copies he changed his mind
I remember being at a comic con and a local seller was on stage talking about that Wolverine issue, and how the “value has skyrocketed” due to this misprint.
I was so taken with X-Men 141 when it came out that I found and bought a winter jacket from Men's Wearhouse like the one Wolverine is wearing on the cover. I have 32 long boxes in my garage, and I'll bet that only one short box has books worth more than $5.00.
I love collecting the keys, but I hate how there are so many “manufactured” ones out there to weed through. I love your honest and informative pointers.
My favorite rare printing error is when it changes the color of the hero's costume. I've seen a Brave and the Bold cover where the cyan ink was not applied, leaving Batman with a pink mask, cape, and gloves but his suit was still normal grey. Haven't seen many errors like that in the wild...
I didn't know my Iron Man #15 was supposedly rare 😅 although I did know the Dazzler error existed & bought a couple on purpose. I kept one. Rare comics are, like, artist proofs & con exclusives. Rare doesn't always (or even usually) mean more valuable.
Great subject matter. Very interesting. I have the Green Lantern #1. I think most of those were shipped to the UK/Europe which might make it a bit scarcer in the US. We get our comics quite early in the UK to allow them to be on sale on Wednesday morning so they're often already en route before the mistake is caught.
I'm always interested in what makes a comic rare, like these weird misprints and recalls, but then you hace to factor in distribution and how soon something got recalled.
I wasn’t aware of that on this particular issue either. But, with almost all Direct Edition comics that have a barcode, note that the last 5-digits of the barcode mean something: - The first 3-digits are the issue number (Issue #68 would be "068") - The 4th digit is the cover number ("1" for Cover A, "2" for Cover B, etc…) - The 5th (last) digit is the printing ("1" for 1st Printing, ”2" for second printing, etc…) So, if you have a comic who’s issue number is 68, it is Cover C and the 1st Printing, the last 5-digits of the barcode will read, "06831." 🙂 "The More You Know" 🌈 ⭐️
@@johnnydropkicks That's generally the case, yes, but I didn't realize that the censored version had a 2 signifying a second printing. Also, as a quick note, check the UPCs on the latest Vampirella series - since #666 came out a few months ago the numbering is goofy: #666 is 660** #667 is 670** #668 is 680** I'm assuming the Vampirella books have enough variants that the first two digits are the last two of the issue#, digits 3&4 signify the variant, while the last digit would be used for printing. It's not super important, but it does give the CLZ Comics app a bit of a headache.
@@jackhole1979 Yeah, that can happen when there are a bajillion variants. Also, I noticed with the Amazing Spider-Man title (and this may apply to other Marvel series as well) that the retailer incentive covers’ and retailer exclusive covers’ last two digits: - Start at 16 - Then go 17, 18, 19, 20 - Skip 21 (and every number higher number that ends with a "1") - Then go 22, 23, 24, etc… There doesn’t have to be more than nine covers before they jump to ”16." This has be going on for the last year or so.
Great content! Whatnot is bad for questionable comments on books by sellers. I have been into comics since the mid 70s ( yup, I'm old lol) but I remember the glut of "rare" books from the 90s that you couldn't give away but now are on sale online. I still get burnt once in a while but I try to stick to the collectors golden rule.."Only buy what you like because you might get stuck with it" Thanks for the content and God Bless
I’ve never even seen a low grade copy of ASM 300. It’s a newer book with a million copies out there. I bought mine for $10 back in the 90s(I had to save up my lunch money!). Now people are paying almost a grand for it. Crazy!!!! The internet is kind of a blessing and a curse for collectors, depending on “fomo”.
I have most of those comics you mentioned. I just checked my two copies of X-Force #1 with the Deadpool card, and I have one with the negative upc. Yay! Though I never thought of it as rare...
Had every issue of Secret Wars.... i was 12 or 13 when they came out. Got them at a local drug store and a gas station off those beautiful squeeky spindle racks!
Breaking down the titles in this way is super helpful. I’ve appreciated your channel for some time and can sense a true collector. You are making sure people don’t get duped. Excelsior.
When I was Dealer I ordered 25 copies of Spiderman 1 they sent me 50, then Venom 1 I ordered 20 they sent me 45 copies and billed for both. I know this happened to my fellow dealers.
People don't seem to understand the definition of "rare." Honestly, it's a word dealers use to get someone to buy a book. Buyers need to do their research before jumping right in. Kudos to you for making this video!
The interesting thing with the Batman & Robin issue 10 is that I never realised they actually printed the swears then blacked over them, I always just assumed they just printed the black bars where the swear would go. So that actually taught me something about how modern comics are printed.
I watched this during my lunch break and I will have to rewatch it tonight so I can search my collection to see if I have any of these not-really-rare issues.
You large saw some of these touted as rare or hard to find by several RUclips reseller channels heavily between 2020-2023😳. In my opinion books that are kind of “htf” usually start popping up when people put a higher evaluation on them, then there NOT so bar to find!🤔🤣
Great job. I always find it funny when dealers try to promote something as rare when it really isn't. It's funny watching them squirm when you call them on it.
Thanks for these type of videos. I just got back into comics a couple of years ago and your videos always let me know some great information. Helping me get my knowledge up. Thanks again!
I know these aren't rare because I actually own some of them. 😂
Like my Pee Wee Herman "action figures".

It’s always “rare” when you’re trying to sell it 😂
lololol!
Would love to see a follow-up video covering the flip-side: comics that people don't think are rare but actually kind of are.
When talking with two other collectors, we realized we actually all owned the blue galactus book.
We joked about the fact that the regular one might be rarer.
100% it is. They do exist but most are blue
Great job, James! It also irks me when folks claim that “Newsstand” versions are rarer simply because their newsstands.
It has always amazed me how a printing error can sometimes raise the value of a comic. The world of comic book collecting is never boring.
I have a Green Lantern #1. Didn’t even know that some considered it a “rare” find. Most of the copies I find in the wild have that tear drop.
X-Force 1 was so heavily printed I bet we all have 1 in a long box in our closets
Yeah, any comic that has a print run in the millions can't be rare.
I have about 9 or 10 copies of that, bought when it came out. Read one, had a Deadpool card in it. The rest are still sealed lol. Worthless...

Inhave like 10 sealed lol
Only 1?
I don’t 😢
Thanks for the heads up. If anything, I now want to search some of these out just for the conversation piece comparing the books.
Most DCU logo variants are easy to obtain if you just want a copy, but finding them in 9.8 is a different story!
I remember being at a comic con and a local seller was on stage talking about that Wolverine issue, and how the “value has skyrocketed” due to this misprint.
I didn't realize all of them are not rare. Especially with how often I've talked to people who talk them up.
Thank you.
It is amazing what people list on eBay as “rare”
Sabretooth was never the same after seeing that slur
I was so taken with X-Men 141 when it came out that I found and bought a winter jacket from Men's Wearhouse like the one Wolverine is wearing on the cover.

I am newer to collecting and these types of informational videos really help to not get ripped off.
But the "unintentional" error begs the question... IS Sabertooth actually a... ?
This was fun. I love when you casually do this stuff. It's like chilling with a friend.
Great subject matter. Very interesting.

Is that why Sabertooth is never fighting on a Friday?
Victor Creed sure as shit doesn't roll on Shabbos!
As a child of the 90s I think my entire collection was DCU variants at one point 😂
I'm always interested in what makes a comic rare, like these weird misprints and recalls, but then you hace to factor in distribution and how soon something got recalled.
Even if they aren’t rare, now I’m on the lookout for them lol!
A topic I've always found interesting is the "ivory" variant of X-O Manowar 0. I have about 6 different color variations of that book.
The world tree "misprint" was the easiest thing I've spotted that made me think "this doesn't add up" since jointing the hobby 5 years ago
Honestly, it felt like a manufactured headline at the time to boost attention for Tynion at Image.
Thanks for your breakdown of what is perceived as rare and unique, versus the common overvalued comics.
Thanks for the tip on Wolverine #131 James, I knew about the error but didn't realize you could tell by the UPC!

Great video. A lot of people selling comics use the 'rare' card, when pushing books. Thank you for the perspective!
I always learn something from the Mint-Hunter.

You could add early newsies as ones that some people always market as rare when in reality they are as it more common
The ones that say NEWSSTAND! and the book is 1977 always make me laugh..
I really appreciate honest videos like this one. Tired of videos that constantly try to hype up a book just so they can sell a copy.
The Days of the Future Past is the first comic trade I ever got on a family trip. I must have read that thing 20 times over that weekend!!!
Whoops!!!
I was expecting jigsaw when heard “let’s play a game” 😂
I feel like most of these should be dollar-bin books, yet they're blown out of proportion.
Putting “RARE” at the beginning puts that extra flava on there to make the sale sizzle 🔥 😆
When I show them off to people who don't know, they're "rare". LOL. Great content as always!
Days of Future Past was one of my favorite storylines.
Thank you for another informative and amazing video! Keep up the great work, and congratulations on the new baby!

Was hoping to hear how rare ASM 300 truly is. I feel like the price is overblown
I keep thinking one of these months EVERY new book published will be an homage to that one.
I’ve never even seen a low grade copy of ASM 300. It’s a newer book with a million copies out there. I bought mine for $10 back in the 90s(I had to save up my lunch money!). Awesome info my friend ❤ Keep up the good work! 😊
I have most of those comics you mentioned. I just checked my two copies of X-Force #1 with the Deadpool card, and I have one with the negative upc. Yay!
Though I never thought of it as rare...
Let’s not forget the Superboy #0 Toy’s R’ Us variant. I must come across that book just about every time I buy a collection.
I'd love to see a DC Universe video in the scarcity of different ones.
Had every issue of Secret Wars.... i was 12 or 13 when they came out. Got them at a local drug store and a gas station off those beautiful squeeky spindle racks!
Should put these up at the antique mall with a sign 'Rare Comics'
lolol I think people would see right through that! they are LOW PRINT and not easy to find but still, rare? methinks not
1 is too many, but a 1,000 is never enough
I think the Larry's Limited Edition version of Invincible #1 is worth mentioning. It supposedly had a print run of 1600 but I see it everywhere.
I’m willing to bet that that book had more printed copies than the original version which itself had only around 9,000 copies printed.
Great topic! Let’s face it, all the stuff we love isn’t rare… but we still love it.
The idea that any version of XForce 1 could be rare is crazy 😆
I think your definition of "back to normal" now with a new born may differ from before haha. Great video as usual!
Always do your due diligence whenever purchasing a “rare” book from anyone. Especially if you’re just getting into the hobby. Great video btw
I appreciate you doing this to help educate on the rare, not rare concerns.
Wow never knew the Secret Wars issue was that readily available. Still want a near mint of Secret Wars #1 in my collection
They may not be that rare but at least they're a little more interesting! Thanks for sharing, keep up the great videos!
Thanks for the rundown of rare-not-rare comics.
Well, I learned something. Wasn't aware of these "rare" variant issues..
I would love to see a similar video where the defect/print shouldn’t make it more valuable but does
What if… someone enters to the price of history with an x-force #1? Think about the posibilities
Nothing like getting excited over a print error to find out it's pretty much across the board...thanks for nothing Galactus.
Breaking down the titles in this way is super helpful. I’ve appreciated your channel for some time and can sense a true collector. You are making sure people don’t get duped. Excelsior.

the ebay listings for those negative upc code variants are hilarious!
People don't seem to understand the definition of "rare." Honestly, it's a word dealers use to get someone to buy a book. Buyers need to do their research before jumping right in. Kudos to you for making this video!
Everyone likes a lottery, especially when it’s free
congrats on the baby, and thanks for informing folks so we aren't getting price hiked!
Saying something is rare seems to be the go to selling phrase in every hobby.
I was not aware of half of these. Thank you!!
The interesting thing with the Batman & Robin issue 10 is that I never realised they actually printed the swears then blacked over them, I always just assumed they just printed the black bars where the swear would go. So that actually taught me something about how modern comics are printed.
Parental Leave, James. What a subtle life change drop! Congratulations.
My favorite is the selling description stating "rare" then followed by 150 copies of the same book.
I watched this during my lunch break and I will have to rewatch it tonight so I can search my collection to see if I have any of these not-really-rare issues.
My new favourite saying: “It’s not that valuable, fam”
The UPC symbol catch was a great tip.
Glad you did this! You could definitely make multiple parts to this series, hope you do!
‘Not rare? Throwing my collection away.’ Lol
I just started collecting comic books so I always count on Mint Hunter Comics for information about collecting comics. Thanks dude!
Great video. I have had this type of conversation with so many collectors about scarcity of common errors. Keep up the great work
You large saw some of these touted as rare or hard to find by several RUclips reseller channels heavily between 2020-2023😳. In my opinion books that are kind of “htf” usually start popping up when people put a higher evaluation on them, then there NOT so bar to find!🤔🤣
Great video, as always. Every time I think I know about comics, you come out with more informative videos. Keep up the great content.
More to come!
I always love your content. It feels different then what else is out there and it comes with knowledge, pictures and honesty. Thanks!
Great job. I always find it funny when dealers try to promote something as rare when it really isn't. It's funny watching them squirm when you call them on it.
“Rare” = “I just want to sell it for more” 🤣🤣
Beyond even the debunking, just learning about all these variants/misprints was pretty fun.
You can always learn something new in the world of comics. It's kind of funny how seller's now use the word "rare" on everything they sell.
It’s like newsstands from 1979-86 people try and charge more for them when the direct were actually more scarce lol
"These aren't the comics you are looking for"
Love seeing non-grail or slabbed books that I could actually find in the wild even if to just say "huh cool printing error."
Thanks for these type of videos. I just got back into comics a couple of years ago and your videos always let me know some great information. Helping me get my knowledge up. Thanks again!
Fun video, I like how you and one other person are finally talking about how comics, even the old ones (silver/bronze) for the most part are not rare
Thanks for making this video! There's so much to learn and too many people trying to take advantage! Helps a lot of us out
Really interesting. It’s a good point that “low print run” doesn’t mean “rare.”
I think what helps the DC Variants in scarcity and value is the grade. Tough to get them in 9.8 or over, at least from my experience
I own a couple of these. It’s fun to spot comics with errors and recalls, even if they aren’t high value.
Loved reading those back in the days! Loving the channel!
