1997 preseason against the Wizards. Crossed up Jimmy Oliver and then posterized Ben Wallace. We were all high on him, but that was what made it clear he was ready out of high school.

Either when he literally gave his 40 point streak up for Shaq when Shaq came back from injury or when he didn't shoot the ball for almost 2 quarters just to see if The Lakers could do it without him being himself on the dancefloor

The night he tore his Achilles might have been my favorite Kobe moment. I’ve never seen anything like it before or since: the man massaged his tendon a little, got up, walked himself to the free throw line, calmly nailed 2 shots and walked off the court unaided. With a TORN ACHILLES TENDON!!

Game 7 of the 2010 finals. Could not hit a shot but got in the paint and got 15 rebounds . He and gasol combined to get 33 rebounds and held a hof in KG to 3 rebounds. Had 10 of his 23 in the 4th..the last 3 makes by the Lakers were 2 FT by kobe , a jumper by kobe and the assist to Artest which gave them the lead before. Lakers were down double digits in the 4th before coming back to win that game.

There was a game around 2005 or so. It must have been after Shaq was traded. I was hanging with a friend at a Venice Beach bar & the game was on. Lakers were losing. But when the 4th quarter began, Kobe started doing his thing. It was perfect because the girl I was with had never really watched him play. So I got to show her in real time why everyone loved him so much. Clutch shot after clutch shot, and sure enough (the way I remember it), a game winner to cap off the night. It was just a Tuesday for Kobe but she was a lifelong fan after that.

Too many favorite Kobe moments to name. I'd say the air balls in Utah that lost them the game. As Shaq said, nobody else wanted the ball. This guy was 18 and putting the team on his back. He wasn't air balling because he choked. He was air balling because he was tired. That was the moment that I knew Kobe was going to be a hall of famer. He was never afraid of the moment, he attacked it.

Mr. Arnett, thanks for showing us in this 8.5 minutes just how important the game of basketball and love for it and the competition was to many of the older athletes! What Kobe and the rest of those players did, "Opposing Team As Well," showed heart and a true love for the sport!
I know without a doubt, the fans appreciated what those professionals gave them in what today, many would consider meaningless.
You're points were very clear! He and others Lakers showed this after winning a Championship, in Los Vegas, not L.A., During the preseason, not the regular....Number 14, whoever he was would fit in really well in today's league! He's not remembered because he was let get go shortly afterwards.
Today, he'd be a starter for one of these teams....
Considering those factors, your playing because "You Love The Sport, The Spirit Of Competing, And You Want To Win❗️👊
I was one of the few, Privileged enough to see Dr.J, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Isiah Thomas, and MJ & Pip live!
    THEY ALL felt that way.....
Thxs for this Bruh! This is what's missed❗️Why we were all, back in the day, crazy about our Stars❗️
Why in my mind, there's No Comparison to what's happening now and what we witnessed then. This type Spirit & Compassion for the game of 🏀 is LONG GONE....

Awesome video, Jonny! Christie was a great defender, but Kobe had an amazing game. I'm not surprised that he was so relentless. I remember reading his book, "The Mamba Mentality" and found his determination and hard work to be inspiring and incredible. I also remember watching him play, and, as a Kings fan, it was so stressful to see him be so unstoppable (and his work ethic is absolutely amazing). So, while I don't recall this pre-season game (probably because it was pre-season), I'm not surprised that he took it seriously and gave it his very best effort. You did an excellent job discussing the game and Kobe's effort. He was a legend and I agree with you - his performance in this game definitely shows who he is.
Nice video again. Have a nice rest of the weekend! Take care, Jonny :].

Watch the 1990 documentary "The History of the NBA" hosted by Pat Riley. Listen to Bill Russell carefully when he's interviewed by Riley. He says he wanted to win every game, playoff game or exhibition game, it didn't matter. That's the mentality that the great players had up through Kobe Bryant, and that very few have today. And I don't think they were "less skilled" back in the day either. If today's players played under their rules, when hard defense was the way of the game, and floppers were looked down on and ostracized as puss's, today's players would get demolished. You couldn't carry the ball palm up with every dribble like you can today and walk and travel all over the court. Bill Laimbeer, Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell, Bob Lanier and on and on would knock you on your ass when you went to the hole, and you weren't getting flagrant fouls. You'd have to suck it up, get up and keep playing. Maybe they couldn't hit 3's as well back in the day but they played with heart and wanted to win way worse than today's overpaid lazy pampered Primadonna's. Today's players are interested in their paychecks first and foremost, and then about their podcasts, gaming and everything else, with basketball about the 5th thing down at the highest.

Lol, that is an EPIC fumble on my part! All I had to do was make the outro 1 second longer. Damn. At the very least, 8/23 is Kobe's birthday, so I'll take that I guess 😂

The funny thing is that I actually just finished a script for a John Stockton video that scheduled to drop on the 28th, in which I’m giving Stockton love for just that 😂. Just because I’m giving Kobe his props, doesn’t mean I’m hating on someone that wasn’t even mentioned, like chill bro. Lol

@ Nah, it’s just when the video started you’re trying to make Kobe out to be some kind of iron man. There are players that were a lot tougher than Kobe.

what are your opinions on players/coaches being omitted in future anniversary teams. so far Bob Davies and Joe Fulks are the only two players who made an anniversary team (25th anniversary) who didn’t make subsequent ones. Bill Fitch and John Kundla are the only coaches who made the top 10 anniversary team but not the top 15 anniversary team.
really Doc Rivers is better than John Kundla?

Again, good video Jonny. But Kobe is a copy of Michael Jordan. Michael has done the same thing too. Kobe's range of shooting is really ridiculous though.

I'm not like that, like not at all... If I win like 3 in a row, I kinda take it easy and soft int, give an opponent a chance... But guys like this, you HATE to face them... They will win 1000 times in a row and rub salt on your wound

Kobe was very streaky. His 'on average' stats are not that impressive at all. He never once had a season shooting over 50% and ended up sub 45%. His last-second shot % was like 25%. His efficiency rating wasn't impressive.
I understand since he played for the Lakers he would get way more attention than most, but he was an overrated player that did a good job trying to imitate MJ and he succeeded about 25% of the time.

    • @HishamElite
      @HishamElite 3 часа назад

Now I’m not a Kobe fan but, you have to realize for last second shots most people are not good. LeBron is like 24%. Mj from what we have tracked is 34%. So last second wise he’s alright. Everything else valid

I think what all of you do and have no decency about is everytime you people talk load management, you use Kawhi.
Kawhi has only load managed twice.
2019 when he returned from injury
2020 where he didnt play b2b games
2021 he played b2b games, he did get injured. 1st All NBA 2nd Team all defense
    2022 injured throughout the season
2023 played 68 games no load management, he got injured.
    2024 yet to play.
If it was only Kawhi, this wouldnt ruin the league. The issue is guys who aren't injured decide to load manage, this is what is destroying the league not Kawhi.
The question is what are your favourite basketball players doing that load management became an issue?
Kawhi literally played injured in 2017, 2019 and played injured in 2023 postseason but he's load managing. Lol
I think all of you who dont address this are pathetic.
