First, it was 'The Iron Giant,' then 'Wall-E,' and now we have another entry in the "Kindhearted Robot Makes You Cry Forever Cinematic Universe" with 'The Wild Robot.'
Short circuit and, as slight stretch away, Batteries not included. Certain directors just have a talent for making you care about inanimate objects.
You need to watch 2023’s Robot Dreams if you enjoy the genre. 🙂🤖
@@ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007Robot Dreams is incredible. Some of the greatest Sound Design in recent memory.
You missed out 2021's Ron's Gone Wrong.
@ 3:32 -> Wow, bit harsh there. The How To Train Your Dragon trilogy explores a variety of subjects (friendship, death & growing up/ older being just three of them). And, just by chance, the director of this very film was also the director of the first How To Train Your Dragon.
Though if you’re referring to Madagascar, Boss Baby, Trolls et al instead then… yeah, perhaps you have a point. 😄
And last years Puss in Boots
Appreciate the mention of Silent Running. I'm always promoting that film to friends.
Saw it back in the early 80's when I was a child, very affecting film, has stayed with me ever since.....
Been waiting for your review of this since i saw it on early release in the UK last sunday. Such a fantastic film.
It's a good one. Beautiful across the board. Really glad Mark liked it for all the right reasons. That in itself is reassuring.
I went to see it last Friday and I cried almost 30 minutes after it finished, amazing movie
Currently @$156.3m worldwide after 3wks, would be nice if it could triple its $78m production budget & get as close as possible to $250m worldwide 🤞
It's out in the UK today so should see some growth the next few weeks
What do you mean this is the last Dreamworks movie made in-house?!
Dreamworks announced a while ago it would reduce its animation staff. Mostly by not renewing contracts when they expired, rather than explicitly firing people. And that they'll be relying more on third party (animation) studio's, rather than in-house staff for future films.
It’s not
Dog Man is their first for other sources, and the first animated film for 2025 next year.
@@islesofforeignrails7917 actually it’s not. Captain Underpants was done at Mikros in 2017.
@@islesofforeignrails7917 So, actually, it is not. Captain Underpants was fully outsourced back in 2017. It was done at Mikros.
It focuses a lot more on death than expected. Especially the clown with the chainsaw.
Mark references all the influences that may have led to the choice of a painterly art style for the film except for the obvious - Peter Brown the author and illustrator. His cover image and pictures throughout the book are wonderful.
Thanks for the review Mark, thoroughly enjoyed it.
Wall.E meets The Jungle Book.
I'm sure DreamWorks appreciate the comparisons but don't go in expecting anything near as rich as WALL-E or The Iron Giant
No mention of Puss In Boots The Last Wish, which is v much responsible for the gorgeous animation style.
One of Dreamwotks best and Imdo not use that as a backhanded compliment. How To Train Your Dragon 1 & 2 are outstanding films. That 3 is only pretty good in comparison speaks to their very high quality.
I’m seeing this tomorrow!, i can’t wait to see it!
I'm in a very similar position, on both fronts.
Will you be doing a review of piece by piece ? 😊
??? How To Train Your Dragon (1&2 especially) and Kung Fu Panda 2 are very much Dreamworks animations dealing with complex issues. extremely well, too. There are several others that do this, but those are their 2 best films.
Don’t forget Puss In Boots The Last Wish, which deals with a lot of complex stuff, especially mortality.
@TheScoppie That is defo one of the several others I'm on about👍🏾
Likewise, keen to see this despite the simple storyline, as the animation looks suitably lush. Sad to learn this is Dreamworks' last animation in-house, what's the story there, please?
Is Dreamworks dead?
@@Punisher9419 no
Has Mayo done something to his hair?
A very decent film yet find it far from the masterpiece or emotional rollercoaster some are declaring. There is indeed a curious focus upon death, too often played for laughs and a slight sense of a vacuum on any genuine charm. I still hold Wall-E (or Nemo) in very high regard yet this is no more than a 7/10.
Call yourself a horror fan and don't review Terrifier 3?
Your comments are getting dreadfully tedious.
I can't gel with the leads voice, seems forced. similar to Hemsworth in transformers one.
I couldn’t get through this movie. Dreamworks just seems hollow compared to peak Pixar. The animation is also very aesthetically unappealing to my eyes. I’ll rewatch Wall E instead.
