Great video! One of my favorite things about Criterion is that each person's collection seems to say something about them. They also bring so much to the table with the art, supplements, and restorations that it really makes discovering new films even more fun and enriching. The fact that tons of people are blind buying these $40 Blu-rays and are getting introduced to hundreds of classic films, international cinema, and independent cinema is an incredible thing! A few of my favorites include Don't Look Now, Chimes at Midnight, Memories of Murder, Night of the Hunter, and the Cassavetes Boxed Set (A Woman Under the Influence probably being my favorite out of those).
I picked up World of Wong Kar Wai not to long ago. Not a fan of everything hes done but Fallen Angels is the first movie that changed my idea of what films could do.
Awesome video! I need to start watching movies a bit faster / more often so I can keep up with the recommendations and the folk releases lol. Super cool to see Joel on the channel, can’t wait for the other Folk Hangout videos to come out!

I can’t afford criterion stuff in Australia, but I know a few movies I own on BR are on there. Recently, Come And See broke into my top twenty, it’s weird to say, but it’s the most beautiful depiction of the tragedy of film imo. Full Metal Jacket and Jarhead might be classed as some of the greats, but something about seeing how trauma ages those youngest to the point where you can’t recognise them is just, amazing. I love cinema. It’s good.
By browsing around I found True Grit (1969) and it was a fantastic movie. I was really surprised how much I enjoyed it. Now I’m currently looking into more westerns. Never in a million years would I ever think to I would become a fan of this genre.

"Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence" gets replayed every Christmas in Japan. It's definitely an interesting film. It's very conversational, and has a lot of interesting ideas. I believe Madonna hired Ryuichi Sakamoto to play the director in her "Rain" music video thanks to that film (and Akira Kurosawa turning her down)
Well just a few hours ago I finished “12 Angry Men” - my first and currently only Criterion film - so I think it’s safe for me to say that as a strong recommendation.
I would highly recommend: -Jigoku -The Naked Prey -Smithreens Based on the fact that they worked with so little, whether it be time, a budget, or a limited script, they each captured what they all desired to portray in best way they could, and they have a unique charm to them because of it.
Maybe you can watch the "Apu trilogy"(Pather Panchali,Aparajito and the world of apu) and "Charulatha/ the lonely wife" by Satyajit ray. Although I haven't watched these in the criterion, (I am not in America) but I know these films are in the criterion. Ray is a bengali filmmaker from India and I am certain that you haven't watched his films, so I thought that I can introduce his films to you.

I really love Jack & Jill. Adam Sandler's talent for coordinating so many A-Z list celebrities and just be able to hang loose together and let them break off any real pretense is such an amazing mgic trick. In here you have French comedian Gad Elmaleh in a scene with Al Pacino speaking gibberish to him and yet he doesn't call him out on it. It heightens the scene. John McEnroe discusses atheism with Nick Swardson as Jared Fogle looks on with 2 hookers at his side. Al Pacino takes the stage with Bruce Jenner as they perform King Lear before a fully live audience and answers his cellphone because he claims "he can smell horny from across an ocean". This film disregards so many things that cinema snobs try to pretend are scriptural commandments and I love that. My life was really changed with that movie. Another good one is The Trial by Orson Welles. Very life changing movie.

Fallen Angels is FANTASTIC I didn't like it at first, but second time I watched it the movie really clicked for me!
