      Thanks man! I’ve actually put two heaters there before this one, so I’ve got three years or flawless miles on this location. It’s got all the noise as far away as possible while you sleep, the heat as close to you while you drive, and it’s totally unused space with no risk of a blanket or “stuff” blocking your heat! It’s perfect.

    All of your videos are fun to watch, and I appreciate the hard work it takes to make the video and hours of editing.
    Always been curious about the Vanagon.
    I used to have a Bus, years ago in the 1990's. A 1969 Camper. Got it for $500. It even had the original hammock that fit over the front seats and the snap on screen for the back. Everything worked, including the original radio.
    The owner kept blowing motors, and said the current engine was expected to blow.
    Well they removed the heat shield gasket! So the two things I fixed right away, replaced the heat shield gasket and did my own valve job. Replaced the fuel line etc. Loved that van.
    I lived in New Mexico then and even during the hottest days, while so many told me I'd be stalled with vapor lock, I'd still be going. They all laughed at me about that heat shield gasket. LOL
    I'd camp in that van. Travel around the state and had to use the slow truck lanes up mountain roads entertaining the truckers for being the little beige Bus among the slow trucks going up. They'd blast their air horns and hear a Meep Meep right back. Fun times.
    Sadly I had to sell it to get me through college. I had a '63 Beetle and a '68 Karmann Ghia. All sold. But they went to good homes.
    Can't afford to get any other cars anymore...however...I am fully enjoying the "Vanagon" videos to help satisfy my curiosity about those vans.

      I mean, if I even get close to half of the build getting paid for in sponsors and views over the course of a year…. I’d be surprised.
      So it’s still $5,000 or so out of pocket for each build, then there’s insurance, all the costs up front, not covering any labor or editing time, etc etc etc. and that’s if the vehicle is free.
      Free cars take $10,000 in Non-labor costs to get back on the road, this video series including labor would approach $25,000 SO FAR, and it’s only chapter 2 produced so far!
      I’ll get a Patreon together.

    • @TheBarefootForge
      @TheBarefootForge  Год назад

      Oh that’s definitely not going to happen. It’s an active goal of my editing to make it not a tutorial, and I often cut 50% of the final edit in a fine toothed comb to NOT make it a tutorial. This one lost at least a half hour of instructive/tutorial based footage.
      It just doesn’t appeal to enough folks, the view rate drops way off, and without playing the numbers game and appealing to the algorithm- I don’t get to make these.
      So while I’m open to the idea of specific tutorial videos that individuals or brands would like to sponsor and suggest- that kinda content can’t get made without getting it paid for. Sorry. : /

    Would love to do the heater install on my T3 Trakka Camper here in Australia (we didn't get Westys here but we had the only other VW dealers sold camper in the world by a company called Trakka). but our RHD dash has the fuse box right underneath it. Also, where are you placing the diesel fuel tank? @TheBarefootForge

    • @TheBarefootForge
      @TheBarefootForge  Год назад +2

      That location likely won’t work for you- but perhaps? Currently I have a 2.5 gallon tank full of kerosene strapped to the spare tire plate. Inconvenient but outside the vehicle. The hope is to change this out for a gasoline furnace like the eberspacher I have in my blue bus in this location. It’s flawless. I 10/10 suggest the eberspacher over the cheap diesel one, but this is a budget build and getting used as a template.

    Loving these episodes. Do you ever find yourself working on air-cooled vanagons too? I'm working on repairing one currently and they are just so simple, charming (and slooow).

    • @TheBarefootForge
      @TheBarefootForge  Год назад

      I generally don't work on the air-cooled ones much, but last year I owned one that had been parked for 20+ years. It was without a doubt the fastest vanagon I've owned, including the 4 I had at that time (two of which had engine swaps). The air-cooled runs very good when it's running correctly, and if it's not a rocket ship to 80MPH- it's broken, and you need to fix it.
      They have lower gearing, so with stock sized tires- the most acceleration of any vanagon produced.
