As an avid reader of all things Sherlock Holmes, I can very much confirm that Holmes being a more kind and friendly character is waaaaaaaay more in tune with the Sherlock Holmes of the books than many modern incarnation. There is quite a few moments actually that make me think that the person writing him has a good grasp on him. The whole part where Holmes likes being celebrated for his deductions is something that very much seems to be in character to him (in "A study in scarlet" he does even blush because they applaud him for it, although Watson describes him as being extremely happy, so it seems it's a happy blush). Modern interpretations of Sherlock often lean into the "Asshole Genius" trope, which does not quite line up with how he is very often described as being incredibly kind to people within the framework of the society he lives in. He has a gaggle of street kids that he pays good money to to pick up word on the street... but also to make sure they get to eat. He takes interest in cases as a mental challenge, sure, but baring that his main motivation is still helping people out. Especially if nobody else is willing to help them. Sidenote, he wears that hat he is famous for once. And he finds it gaudy at that point, but it is for a disguise... which is the only thing that does not get brought up nearly enough, that Sherlock is a master of disguise, which is how he manages to fool Watson for so long that he is dead.
One thing I love about the violin being his Craft Essence is that it seems apparent that his fondness for violin playing is a good contrast to his typical disposition, or the image he forms in the minds of other people--it reflects on his more artistic sensibilities, and therefore, on the softness of his humanity amidst the rigidity and stark logic. In other words, it's a fitting gift for raising our " _Bond_ " points with him.
yeah, I also think FGO's depiction of Holmes is closer to the original novel than the modern one. Also, I laugh so hard when they show how excited Holmes is when he sees crack lmao
the reason for holmes being a ruler instead of caster is that his np is classified as anti-world with the effect of letting him find the truth in anything. if he wasnt restricted to be more rational as a ruler he would most likely be inclined to use his np to uncover and dispell all the secrets and mystics in the world and by proxy kill the planet aka gaia. which makes him a threat to the planet even if he himself doesnt mean to.
Ritsuka: So... Not counting Da Vinci. Are you our most reliable Servant ally? Holmes: Elementary, my dear Ritsuka. Unlike your other Servant allies, I am always there to support along with Da Vinci. If not... What Servant was going to help you? Dantes? Jeanne? d'Eon? Mordred? Ritsuka: Good. As long as you don't die like Lalter or betray us in the future, I guess I can always trust you. Holmes: That's impossible! I won't be like Lalter since the FGO writers know what to do with me in the story and don't treat me like a walking joke like d'Eon.
Ah, Sherlock. I think he has one of the only triple + ranked skills in FGO. I think he might be the only one with an A+++ skill. Makes you wonder why it isn't just EX at that point.
Daily reminder EX is not stronger than A+ skills, people always forget or just straight up thinks EX has the same status in every other media where its the best rank while actuality Fate does it abit differently where its EX cant be calulated like how comparing apples to orange cant be the same. Also some EX are straight up weaker than C rank skills lorewise
@@tixrobux2930 well its mostly apply to skills like madness enchancment EX because they are mad in a different way so they can talk etc. Other than that most EX skills are straith up stronger then their one-lettered counterparts. But a great point especialy concerning ridiculous skills with A+++ ranking
I would have liked if you could include the unutilized Noble Phantasms of servants into your analysis for these videos. Sherlock Holmes has a second Noble Phantasm called Empty House which (as far as I remember) was used in the Shinjuku storyline in order to maintain a disguise.
Well now you've done it! My other fav fictional character (along with Edmond Dantes/Avenger). Another wonderful analysis of this character. FGO Sherlock version does feel a lot nicer than his modern interpretations and compared to those, he does seem nicer like his book counterparts. Then again, it's quite hard to fully grasp his personality as the books are almost entirely from Watson's POV. He does have some light-hearted side and is overall less severe and serious than how modern portrayals go (especially the 21st century interpretations). Either way I'm looking forward to your next vid of Moriarty himself! The one man who can go toe-to-toe with Holmes.
I'm actually taking a pause right now from writing the script for Moriarty. I am going to... have lots to say about him. I hope you like it once I finish it in the coming days! :D
@@CrazyYurie Take all the time you need! Moriarty is another complicated individual. Sometimes I think it's amazing how highly intelligent and gifted individuals like Holmes and Moriarty can take such different paths in life. For one who only appears in two of Doyle's story, he has quite the impact upon Holmes.
Btw just as phrase "Elementary my dear Watson" his iconic deerstalker hat also wasn't mentioned in original text and product of one of the first illustrator's depictions.
Probably my most favorite servant. The way he chant's his NP is just perfect and the NP animation itself is perfect too, it gives me chills. Just reached the lostbelts a few weeks ago (Lostbelt 2 currently) and I really like him as a character although he's mostly just a supporting cast.
Personal opinion, but I feel like the Assassin Class would be a more fitting natural class for Sherlock than the Caster Class. Holmes in the original Doyle stories was a master of disguise, frequently using the skill to gather intelligence (and prank Watson), so it would be very fitting for him to have very high Presence Concealment. He's not a murderer by any stretch but would could potentially flavor his NP as him getting someone arrested and sent to the Gallows.
There’s actually a neat characterisation in his skills. They only benefit himself, much like how he always keeps his observations and theories to himself. His discoveries, that is his NP, does benefit everybody but he himself still benefits the most out of it. This actually means we the players feel the frustrations characters feel when dealing with Holmes cuz more often than not, he will end up stealing the Stars from your damage dealers.
I really enjoyed your video I always like seeing Fates servants getting discussed like this, I noticed you said in his 1st and 4th ascensions he was probaby inside 221b Bakers Street while this is true for his 1st ascension in his 4th is actually taken from "The Adventure of the Naval Treaty" Holmes is inside the house of his client when he suddenly becomes enthralled by a rose and makes a very out of character speech _"There is nothing in which deduction is so necessary as religion," said he, leaning with his back against the shutters. "It can be built up as an exact science by the reasoner. Our highest assurance of the goodness of Providence seems to me to rest in the flowers. All other things, our powers, our desires, our food, are all really necessary for our existence in the first instance. But this rose is an extra. Its smell and its color are an embellishment of life, not a condition of it. It is only goodness which gives extras, and so I say again that we have much to hope from the flowers.”_ I always thought it was an intresting pick for his final ascension. Also about the deerstalker hat, in the orignal stories he rarely wears it as its the type of outfit you'd wear in the countryside and would stand out on the streets of London, so his outfit is pretty correct for the orignal stories. I would be intrested to see a more stereotypical version of Holmes be summoned in the Fate universe based more on the Basil Rathbone films etc. This version seems based more on the orignal stories plus (visually) the Jeremy Brett version from 1984 to 1994 which is an excellect series and his is the best portrayal we've ever had.
I know you weren't around for the event, but you should really check out the Murder at the Kogetsukan event. It's a really good showing for both Holmes and Moriarity.
i`ll be waiting with anticipation for continuation of this series, hope you will grade Charles, Marie and Charlotte (maybe in one brief video bc there is already three long ones) and other new characters. Granted I now how hard and time consuming is research for this kind of content so we all need our cup of patience
Thanks! Making more of these videos is very much the plan! I've written most of the script for the next one, and am hoping to finish it in a few days! ^_^

Yep, the fact that he is a master of disguise is also a part of his skillset in FGO. One of his NP is just that, a really good disguise.
POV: When the bl story that ships him with Moriarty does a better job than most modern adaptations

I hadn't thought about it that way. Very interesting, and it makes sense too!
Don't forget that his illustrator (Yamanaka Kotetsu) has only drawn other beast class enemies...
Uh oh...
Really late here, considering how caster sherlock was described there is a chance that a caster sherlock may become a beast

I'll look into those more!
funnily a reference to "The Adventures of the Empty House" where sherlock comes back to life?(He was in disguise before revealing himself to watson)
Imagine being so good at solving mystery that you got promoted to a stronger class just to stop you from solving all possible mystery in life😂
