CORRECTION: FAMU is the only public HBCU in Florida. The "public" distinction was inadvertently left out of the narration. Historically black colleges and universities (also known as HBCUs) are institutions of higher education that primarily serving the African American community. While education and academic excellence are paramount to the HBCU experience, there are other unforgettable aspects that make black college life one of a kind: Unique social life, Marching bands, Greek life, exciting athletics, Black culture, Homecomings, and school spirit "out of this world".

Florida, but you omitted the other HBCUs in Florida - Bethune-Cookman University, Florida Memorial University and Edward Waters - all are private while FAMU is public.

THE Dillard University, the first HBCU in Louisiana founded in 1869, will always be one of the top in my eyes, graduating more female physics majors than any other HBCU in the country.

The great thing about this list that it invites all HBCU students and alumni to express their pride. All of these schools have something special to offer. I can find something positive to say about all the HBCU's attended by me, family, and friends. We all should be grateful and proud.

My nephew is currently attending MOREHOUSE, he is in his undergrad year, I can't tell you how very pleased I am about my nephew becoming the first in the Carlton family to graduate from a HBCU, the entire family is proud of him good work nephew

My son have two Master degrees & Law Degree & Awesome Spelman Wife with Master degree and MD. Spelhouse is no joke!!! These two great HBCU have awesome reputations!!! You can tell when you meet a "Morehouse Man" & "Spelmanite" they have an "air" of confidence and positive achievement.

All jokes aside, Spelman, holistically, is the best HBCU in the country. Graduation rates, endowment, retention, etc. Excellent institution and I would argue one of the top institutions in the country.

Come on over! We don't actually have majorettes, but we do have dancers that are called "dolls". In fact many believe that Beyonce borrowed some of their dance moves. Watch them on RUclips (Southern University Dancing Dolls). I'm an instructor there in the English Department; I'll be waiting for you.

A lot of people don't know that Florida Memorial University is a HBCU in Florida. It is the only HBCU in South Florida in Miami Gardens......😀😀😀

I am so proud of my people. We have come a long way. I'm from London england and have finished university already but I really wish I went to an HBCU in the states. The best thing to do is to support your own and be surrounded by your own kind.
I went to two - Morehouse and Hampton - and spent more time fighting than studying. I never dealt with so much jealousy, and admittedly, I had a very short fuse. I grew up in an all-black inner city and would have thrived better in a diverse student body. But yeah, the women were a lot of fun....
I love the theme, the presentation and the appeal. I love the sheer appreciation for the celebration of US. Please do be advised. FAMU is not the only HBCU in Florida.

We won't say alll that. I think decisions should be made on a personal bases and which path is the best for their family. I personally went to an outstanding Engineering school that just happened to be an HBCU. But if I was a Bball star or a FBall standup, I would have chose differently, to keep it real.
I wanted to go to Fisk 😥 but Alabama State gave me a better offer in terms of scholarships
But Fisk is still my first love ❤️

As a Fisk Alumna, if you really want to go to Fisk talk to the financial aid office. I say that because if your stuff is tight, they are going to make sure you are taking care of.

Great information! I love the video. However, I just wanted to point out that FAMU is NOT the only HBCU in Florida as the video states. Bethune-Cookman and Edward Waters are also HBCU's tht are located Florida. BTW I am a proud graduted of Jackson State University.

As an Australian i find it amazing that America is still so racist. When i think of a mental image of USA i actually picture a black and white solider. Seems strange to us that USA seems to have an identity crisis.

Yeah, America is still racist. White people (European colonizers) give the facade that race is not an issue but the treatment of the former enslaved today is such today, that each of these schools are still required not only as safe spaces against systemic racism towards American Native Blacks but to be granted impartial access to higher education, you know without carrying a football or being the absolute academic best. These schools are just as relevant today as they were in 1865 when slavery was abolished.
