I like how in the Monster Mash video it's implied that Geoff built himself a Kathy (bride-of-frankenstein style) and in this video shows Kathy building herself a Geoff~
Ladies and gentleman, if you look at 13:48 you can see a wild Mortius begin to simply ascend to a higher plane of existence.
Kathy keeps everyone in line (well, as much as anyone can). She's an integral part of Voiceplay.
That falsetto of Anthony's is .... wow!
My favorite comment on the original video was (something like): I knew Kathy keeps the guys' heads on straight, but I didn't realize it was literally... Seriously, everyone should watch the original video for its comment section. The dad jokes there are top notch.
I can produce all of his notes in falsetto, but nowhere near his grace, which is what separates a baritone from a proper tenor. The same goes for Geoff's chest base notes; I can produce them, but nowhere near his quality and grace.
I love seeing Mortius swoon over something pretty from VoicePlay, and then combining it with a little lesson in time signatures only makes it better ❤
love that you pointed out the time signature. An important point is that 6/8 and 3/4 time are the traditional waltz tempos (that box step is 1-2-3, 1-2-3, etc), which is why we associate it with classic love songs. And NO - the original is not 6/8. It is 4/4. By changing the tempo, VoicePlay reinforced the concept that this is an intimate love song. Subtle and beautiful story telling. and I loved your expression on that beautiful "SHINE" chord. That chord is the most perfect thing I have heard in music in a long time. I just want to live there. :)
This one will be my favorite for a very, very long time. Musically, artistically it's superb. But it's the ending scene and the little mermaid wave - so sweet and so romantic!

Yes, this is most certainly one of the most beautiful of their covers! And then the visuals on top of it? That ending is just gorgeous.
That "it's your golden hour" after the group shimmer/SHINE by Anthony where he goes to the stratosphere.... gives me shivers and makes me tear up. It's so sweet.
Layne had to outsource part of the keying I think not only due to Cesar's beard but ends of Geoff's hair making it very difficult to get a clean outline otherwise. I'm trying to remember if he said that he might have been able to do it, but the sheer amount of time it was going to take him to do it meant it made more sense to outsource it.
I wonder if Geoff's head looked a bit "off"! I figured it was the hair
I hadn't heard original at all till I heard this cover. I've since gone back to listen to it, and I have to say that the bridge that Geoff wrote, composed and arranged. (from "Can you ever really know how you built..." at 12:55 to "please don't fade away into the darkness of night") is my favorite part -- makes it a much deeper love song.
I just had a thought: If the original time signature is 12/8, and Layne's arrangement is 6/8 (does he say it's 6/8?), does that mean that Layne "Slowed down time"? Mad Lad.

Your reactions validate my unrecorded ones sir. Also yes, Geoff’s voice can melt butter and hearts. I’m happy with my E1-G#4 vocal range because I can be high school Geoff with short hair.
It was Layne! Of course he messed with the time signatures.
The name of the toy shop was provided by German patrons and translates as VoicePlay.
Layne said that originally Kathy wanted him to play the part of the man she made, but since Geoff has never run the steadycam that wouldn’t work.
Layne did have in mind one last shot that would have tied things up, but he forgot to get the shot, so we ended up with this sweet love story. (I think it would have been good either way)
And there is a Pinocchio in the windowsill. Details, details. (And the blocks spelling out their name)

I think that this is my new favorite voiceplay cover, and I say that with every cover that they post but this one is just amazing. The concept for it is so creative and the arrangement of the song is just perfect. I have been listening to this one since it came out and I am just obsessed with it. Like that harmony at the climax of the song is just ethereal. Thanks for the great reaction as always friend💜

Thank you for explaining time signatures. I never knew that, and that illuminated SO much ( I'm a musical idiot). One reason I love you is that you don't treat your listeners as stupid, but you realize that some of us have not been exposed to the nitty-gritty of of how the 'sausage' is ground...🤣 Mortius, you are glorious, and I mean that in every sense. 💘 I have always loved Geoff's sound (his voice cuts through my hearing loss), but good headphones have allowed me to hear Anthony, Cesar, Eli, and the Cardona brothers and opened new worlds for me.
I loved the ending. Geoff's little smile and Kathy smiling and waving at him as they hold hands makes me smile every time. As for the song Holy Smokes! There's so much going on my ears are happy clams.

Geoff wrote the bridge for this to extend it a bit, Sung by /Cesar, Eli and Anthony. And his name is pronounced as Garjoola. Kathy is more than great. Geoff and VoicePlay would get nowhere without her.

As i was explaining to my wife how the UNISON note felt, you literally said it in the video the next second! Another majestic work of art of a song being shown to us, in a fairly grounding manner, humbling faces, divine notes and i can't even describe other things in words. I love your reaction to this song.... Another one of my *FAVORITES*. I've noticed most of my absolute favs of VoicePlay's songs showcase Layne's singing or rapping or instrument playing. His singing voice has such a sweetness to it.

My very limited knowledge of Italian names makes me think it might be gar ZHOO la (for all I know Anthony is Greek, though, so definitely grain of salt). Speaking as someone who also has a name nobody pronounces right when they see it in writing, I empathize.

There’s a background bit where SOMEBODY hits a B5 early in the song, and I’m dying to know who. And also NOBODY is talking about Geoff’s downward arpeggios, but they’re SWEET.

Also want to comment on that one "Shine" I think I speak for all of us. And you all know which "Shine" I am refering to, but I think its safe to say that whilst hearing that one in particular... WE as viewers, could "SEE" sound for a few seconds. Those who disagree, FIGHT ME ! I'll be at the Flag Pole in the morning. lol

6/8 time can also be counted as a very slow 2. I think it just depends on how the music is organized. If it is counted as a slow 2 beats, it still has the feel of a triplet. Instead of it being counted as 1 2 3 4 5 6, it would be counted more as 1 2 but feeling the beat of the three eighth notes being played in a row.
Just a little sidenote I recognized (as a German): The 'Toy Shoppe' is named "Stimmen Spiel" which is the german translation of "Voice play" - Is there something I should know..? 😃

You mentioned in the video if they might have had difficulty with editing Cesar and Eli's beards, but honestly I also wonder if some of Geoff's hair got "chopped off" in the editing process as well and that's why his head looks a bit "off" compared to Layne or Anthony for example? 🤔
Honestly I avoided watching Golden Hour for a while because I saw the thumbnail and I was like "hm this seems just a *little* too weird for my brain to fully process" (still listened to it on Spotify though). Glad I eventually did though, because that ending made the whole thing worth it! 💜

This was excellent. Btw there is a new Korean acapella group Named Beatpella House. it consists of 4 beatboxers and a singer. There names are Huckle, Hellcat, Wing, Hiss, and Yella E.. They just did a Acapella cover of Pink Venom. Yoiu should check them out they are pretty good.
