Excellent, teacher. I have been waiting for this for several years now. This was quick and straight to the point, yet detailed. We knew we could count on you to deliver the goods. Good things come to those who wait ( patiently ), and this was well worth the wait. Thumbs up!!!
Hi Diane, I wanted to take a moment to thank you for sharing this amazing video! Your method of drafting made it quite easy to follow and understand. I’m creating a wedding jumpsuit for my amazing client and I feel much more at ease after using your method to draft a bodice block pattern. I’m working with very unusual materials (latex) but the fit needs to look exceptional, especially on her wedding day. On another note, your soothing voice made following your video very enjoyable. I felt like I was back in grade school, but without all the yelling😁. You should start a channel reading bed time stories 😍. Have a lovely evening and thank you again Diane for all your help!

Hi Diane. So I decided to make a plus size bodice for a client of mine with a 139,5cm bust. Which it kind of scared me at first because I love making cothes for everyone, but this size made me nervous. However I went for it. So I used this method and it worked. With just few changes on the bust level of the back. Remember on the bust level you measured 1/2 shoulder blade + 0.25cm ease. I did that. Then the next step was to measure from that shoulder blade point 1/4 BA + 0.25 ease and divide it by 2. I decided to not divide by 2 because it made the difference between the bust and waist look rediculous and made the bust way too small. Like the waist was much bigger than the bust. So what I did was instead of using half the measurement to find side seam of the back, I used 3/4 measurements instead. Increasing the side seam to look less steep and giving the bust much needed allowance. I remember you telling me that the armhole might be too big, in this case the armhole was perfect for the size of my client. However there were small needed alterations on the front chest width. So I decided to use contouring techniques I found on the net and adjusted them a bit on the pattern to manupilate it so it fits my client. I also got a 10cm dart, which also helped give enough room for drape on the bust. This was incredible as it did not take me too long to make. This will now become the only bodice making technique I will ever use. You have made my life a lot easier. THANK YOU!
Hello Linkol You make me feel very proud of you. Custom made is always a big challenge, and you did it! On top of that, I'm sure you learn a lot and are now more confident. Congratulation Diane
Just came across this video. Thank you so much for posting. I've sewn from commercial patterns for forty years, and they never fit exactly right. They are "close enough" I guess. But I really want to be able to do better than "close enough." Your tutorials are going to help me to do just that. Thank you again!!
That is AMAZING! 😮 I'm kind of fed up with having to do so many adjustments to commercial patterns, so I thought I'd look into making my own block and, as usual, your instructions are THE BEST ❤

Thanks for the video, it is very useful. When it comes to draft a pattern sometimes fun for people, but sometimes it's hard others. With your tutorial does help a lot.
This is so much more straight forward than the method I was first taught and in my textbook! Thank you for making this video and sharing this. I really struggled with the first method I was taught but I think I can manage this way of drafting!
Thanks very much ma...your explanation is very clear, easy and simple. I really appreciate all you are doing, your channel has become my favorite...please keep up your good work, we love you 💖
Thank you Diane I'm so grateful for this. Just completed !!! Better than the explanation given at pattern/sewing school here in Italy, simpler, so elegant and professional! I'll follow you through the next chapters - I'm trying to make myself a coat with box pockets and peter pan collar, starting from dartless bodice as you explain PS .25 cm is approx 1/10 of inches... to who has difficulties in translating cm to inches just use a cm ruler ^__^

Hi Diane,I have watched your video as I am keen to try drafting my own blocks, but can you tell me what “BA “ is,? I seem to have missed what this means
Hello Carole, BA is for Bust Arc, this is 1/2 the bust measurement, I use this term because we make a 1/2 bodice. you could also get All the free PDF in my WIX SITE : dianedezie7.wixsite.com/toolfully Direct link; dianedezie7.wixsite.com/toolfully/free-download Diane
Hi Liezel, I see you asked your question 9 months ago and no one bothered to answer your question. I too ask myself the same question and had to scroll down for about a half hour to find that BA means Bust Arc. I have no idea how to get the bust arc measurement but thought since every single person in the comments section must have known what BA was since no one but us had that question.
Wow, what a great fit!! That's the best fitting bodice I've ever made. Thank you!! I did find I had to drop the front neck point 1cm, but other than that, perfect. I am so happy the video is in Metric. Being an Australian I don't know Imperial at all. I love that you have constructed it using a shoulder dart. It is perfect for constructing a princess line. Have you ever considered a video on fitting problems? I find this information the hardest to find in video format. :) One thing, we were taught to add 2mm to the centre back across the shoulders, so that the back line is not straight when adding seam allowance to the CB. Is there any reason you don't do this?
Hi Candice, I never heard about that 2mm, but one thing I know, is that when I start there where all kind of rules in the pattern making, but now, there is no rules or all rules are good, if it work for you. Personally I find it easier to have my center back straight, but for and elongated bodice I do go in a little at the waist level.
Candice Turner I am glad that you mentioned the whole princess seam idea because I have always wanted to sew a princess seam dress so so thanks for the thought.

Hi Diane, Thank you so much for all your work. Could you please explain the shoulder blade measurement? From where to where do you measure? I watched the video many times and couldn't figure it out. Thank you. Merci.
Please ma am interested in this question. How do we measure shoulder blade I havnt b.een able to draft my pattern because of this. . Your an amazing teacher Ma
Hello Diane, thank you for this tutorial. It's really helpful. I have a quick question, though. I see that in your chart 1/4 BA is actually 1/8 of your full BA, 1/10 BA is 1/20 and 1/20 is 1/40. Is that a mistake? Or should we divide BA arc, not a full bust circuit? Thanks for your help!
Hello Knob, I know this is a little confusing, but you got it right, and the measurements I use are right. I use the term BA for Bust Arc, so from center front to center back = 1/2 the all around measurement. I will redo this video using the full measurement instead of BA, for less confusion. Diane
Your tutorial is very detailed so it helps a lot, thank you ❤ But I have questions.. Why don't you use side length measurements? I wonder if someone has a long torso, is the formula to place the bust line (1/2 of center back + 1cm) still applicable?
Hello Koka I would still do it the same way, because this 1/2 and 1 down doesn't come from a % . If the person has a really longer or shorter torso, I would move the "bust under arm" line according to what I see, when I do the fitting. Diane

thanks a lot. I figured it out after much calculations. I must say you have the best video on drafting. it fits perfectly and has less fitting problems. like the fact that variables are gotten from my own measurement and not just a standard guess work. thanks a lot.... please how do I contour the pattern?
Hi Sophia, thanks for your comments, when the plan is finish, retrace back & front on separate paper and add the seam allowances (I use 1 cm or 3/8 inch) Center front is on fold so no seam allowance and center back could have 2 cm or 3/4 inch. Diane

The measurements I have are - Bust is 39 inch and Waist is 33 inch. Shoulder 14.5 in. Somehow the armhole is coming out to be too small. Maybe I am getting mixed up with inches and cm. Will try by converting to cms first. Do we add ease or just follow the instructions in the video. I tried the pdf steps - but it is very tight at the armhole. Thanks!
I’m following along with your bodice block draft - but you mention BA - and I came to a stop. What is that? Bust Apex, Back Armhole, Back Armscye, - You keep referring to BA! I’ve fast forwarded the video to where you draft the front bodice and there are more references to BA???????

I love your videos and did the pant block, it came out perfect. On the bodice, at the neckline the back neckline is coming out way too big. I've gone over my measurements many times and can't figure out what's wrong. When comparing my measurements to the example I found that on the bust arc measures the 1/4, 1/10, 1/20 and 4/10 were calculated from the 1/2 BA. When I redraw the back neck it looks good but I haven't seen it up yet. I'm hoping that's what I was supposed to do.
Kim Sanchez yeah! I got the same issue, after I always feel it is confusing for me with the neckline also the bust level. Reread the measurement and see the same reason as what you mentioned. Fixing it now :).
Thank you for this amazing tutorial. the only thing i didn't quite understand is what are the measurments of the shoulder blade like how do you take those measurments?

Diane, i think you are just awesome. I am studying your basic block right now. However, i am a plus size.. and finding it a little difficult to do the drafting. Could you consider doing a basic bodice video for a plus size? It would be so helpful. I did look at your PDF instructions, but found it a bit tough to understand. Thanks so much.. xx
Hi Sharon, I did 2 videos for + size Plus size ruclips.net/video/iID_AkD7UFI/видео.html ruclips.net/video/iiZPi-IntAU/видео.html and I will do one more for the skirt soon. On my channel I have over 140 videos Diane
Diane, I was wondering if I could use the same method as above to draft a basic bodice for me? or would i need deeper darts, being an xxxl as opposed to a Large? if the answer is yes, then how much should the darts be? I hope you understand what i mean... hoping you do.
Hello Sharon, When you do custom garments, there is no standard, the darts will depend on where are the volumes, for example, even if you are a xxxl, it doesn't mean that you have a large bust, very often, it is the belly that needs more so you might have to eliminate completely the waist dart. So you should start with the basic dart measure and adjust on you. After the fit is good, you could pivot the shoulder dart or part of it at the waist. I hope this could help Diane
Hello Diana, My mannequin is a draping one, I think there are the best because there made to pin on, not only to present garment. If I had more budget, I would get the one with the legs. Also some have a more realistic (buttock) than mine. The ajustable one is not suitable for draping because all the most important area are empty (center an waist). The best place to get a new one now is PGM, but even a very old second hand is good. I hope this will help you. Diane
I need to know how to adjust this bodice for a larger armhole. My upper arm is larger. Thank you. Love the video's, wish they were in inches. Struggled through the conversions but I got it made.
Hi Alrisha, I will redo this video and PDF with inches as soon as I can. to enlarge the armhole, I would raise (3mm /1/8inch) shoulder/ armhole point. And lower (5mm/1/4 inch) the under arm/side seam point. Also, if its possible, enlarge under arm (5mm/1/4 inch). Also, try to make your sleeve a little wider than the recipe, (extra 5mm/1/4 inch on bicep line), you will get a little more ease at sleeve head, but it will fit better at upper arm. Diane
Good day Diane, please where exactly can I get the measurement chart? I’ve searched for it and can’t find it. Is it contained within one of the paid content? Also, what is BA? And the pint you used 1/2 of the shoulder measurement; is it half of shoulder to shoulder or half of neck point to shoulder? Thank you 🙏🏽
I love all your videos you a very good teacher. I tried this method of drafting bodice and it came out well pls can you help me with standard measurement for women so I can practice and I have watched your sleeve drafting the best so far on sleeve drafting and thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Is this tutorial meant for beginners? I am totally confused with the ⅒, not many tutorial makes it easy to understand how to draft a basic bodice pattern.
hi Diane..... I must say your method is awesome. I own a little shop and I've drafted about 10 patterns for different clients and manipulated it to other styles with no fitting issues at all. you are blessed. I just want to know is there a way to move the bust dart on the neckline without slashing it Pls.....
Hello Sophia, not in the construction, but when your construction is done, you could do it by pivoting when you retrace you pattern. Here some pivoting videos: pivoting : ruclips.net/video/rqEmJb2L_8I/видео.html ruclips.net/video/fbeTqR5GIU0/видео.html ruclips.net/video/Aqb9tBy5sCk/видео.html Diane

What does BA mean? It was mentioned at 3.28 without any explanation that I could see on this video what BA means. I cannot use this video without knowing BA means, even though the whole video looks well put together.
I have followed this video and the pdf steps - thank you for putting together such a detailed guide. But my draft has the front and back side seams overlapping at the waist, and when I measure the full width on the bust line from centre back to front, it is 4cm short of my full bust measurement. I have drafted it twice, remeasured myself and each of the lines but still having the same issue :(

how did u determine the eases for the bodice block? it seems like this technique is more technical in terms of the construction. however this is a good video where i can easily understand your way of explaining the drafting. thank you... hope to see u make a video for plus size bodice block in the future.
Hello Muhammad. The ease measurements is usually bust 4 cm or 1 1/2 in. Waist 2 cm or 3/4 in. hip 4 cm or 1 1/2 in. In this video, I reduce it to half, for more modern adjustment, but the fit will be tighter, Diane

THANK YOU!
Hello Linkol
You make me feel very proud of you. Custom made is always a big challenge, and you did it!
On top of that, I'm sure you learn a lot and are now more confident.

What is BA?
This is fascinating and beautiful - I think I can do this! You're a terrific teacher! 💜💛💚💙💜💛💚💙
best one i have seen yet about drafting of patterns.
thank you.
i've just downloaded your files!omg this is going to be so much easier whith the grids!thanx a million!
Thank you miss Diane at least someone did using cm instead of inches
In Russia we used cm here in America everywhere is Inch kind of hard for me
Hi Sona, I'm in Canada and we use cm here also, I find it more accurate and easier to divide.
Diane
Same here in South Africa
I'm American, and I use cm anyways cuz its better ;).. i have no idea y everyone else in this country uses inches...
I am confused Diane , what's BA ?
Good question. I believe the BA is the Bust Arch.
In another comment, Diane said it was Bust Arc (½ bust)
You are outstanding! You have become my favorite teacher.
Thanks Diane. I am the one that did not watch carefully...I watched the video again and everything was very clear.
Thankyou, I got It.Suzanne from Sew Custom mentioned It in her Vlog.I am now going to work on getting a block/sloper to fit me.Thanks again.Susan.x
Finished the bodice block last night, cut and sewed from muslin this morning. Perfect fit, thank you so much.
Hi Kim, Bravo & thanks to let me know. This and maybe the tailor collar are the hardest pattern to do. Diane
Every time I see your tutorial I feel that I'm loving you more and more. God bless you 💍👍💖
i tried the pattern . the side of the bust does not fit it expands out and the back neck does not connect.
you are so amazing, wished I could take sewing lesson from you, very relaxing watching you..ty for sharing with us..I live in Las Vegas Nv
I'm kind of fed up with having to do so many adjustments to commercial patterns, so I thought I'd look into making my own block and, as usual, your instructions are THE BEST ❤

Thank you so much for this tutorial. It has helped me a lot. I studied fashion and haven’t done anything with it for four years, I couldn’t believe how much I had forgotten. Your video helped me remember it all. You are a great teacher. Thank you!!!! 🙏🏻. I subscribed instantly 😍
I really appreciate all you are doing, your channel has become my favorite...please keep up your good work, we love you 💖
Hello Olorunlami
Thanks, your comment is really appreciated
Diane
Thank you Diane I'm so grateful for this. Just completed !!! Better than the explanation given at pattern/sewing school here in Italy, simpler, so elegant and professional!
I'll follow you through the next chapters - I'm trying to make myself a coat with box pockets and peter pan collar, starting from dartless bodice as you explain
PS .25 cm is approx 1/10 of inches... to who has difficulties in translating cm to inches just use a cm ruler ^__^
Thanks for your comment, it's appreciated.
Also, all my PDF are now in both inches & centimeter and i also add inches to the new video.
Diane
Je suis très heureuse. Je suivrai vos instructions à la lettre. Merci

Great tutorial. May I ask what BA is? I've watched a couple of times and I can't figure it out. Thank you.
Hello Kim,
BA is Bust Arc, so 1/2 of the bust all around measurement, since the construction is 1/2 a body.

Hi Diane,I have watched your video as I am keen to try drafting my own blocks, but can you tell me what “BA “ is,? I seem to have missed what this means
Hello Carole,
BA is for Bust Arc, this is 1/2 the bust measurement, I use this term because we make a 1/2 bodice.

Hello Danie, when i use Bust 31, Waist 23,5/8 and shoulder across 14,1/4 i find that back bust line is longer than front bustline. Is that ohk?
thank you mam, your tutorial so clear. now i can make bodice patterns more perfect.
🙏😘😘
Hi Diane, thank you for your tutorial, id like to know what is BA and how to get BA measurement. Thank you and looking forward to your response :)
One thing, we were taught to add 2mm to the centre back across the shoulders, so that the back line is not straight when adding seam allowance to the CB.
Thank you so very much. I really needed this.

Hi Diane, thanks for very instructed video, how different fitting block alterations can be done, ..
Hi Diane, Thank you so much for all your work. Could you please explain the shoulder blade measurement? From where to where do you measure? I watched the video many times and couldn't figure it out. Thank you. Merci.
Hello Leann,
This is a good point, and many dont take the measure correctly.
Diane
Please ma am interested in this question. How do we measure shoulder blade
I havnt b.een able to draft my pattern because of this.
Hello Knob,
I know this is a little confusing, but you got it right, and the measurements I use are right.
I use the term BA for Bust Arc, so from center front to center back = 1/2 the all around measurement.
I will redo this video using the full measurement instead of BA, for less confusion.
Diane
What I'm stuck on is 4/10 of BA going to the front(plus .5 ease). How do I get that ? 6.58
@@DianeDezieltoolfully what is BA mean
Your tutorial is very detailed so it helps a lot, thank you ❤ But I have questions.. Why don't you use side length measurements? I wonder if someone has a long torso, is the formula to place the bust line (1/2 of center back + 1cm) still applicable?
Hello Koka
I would still do it the same way, because this 1/2 and 1 down doesn't come from a % .
If the person has a really longer or shorter torso, I would move the "bust under arm" line according to what I see, when I do the fitting.

thanks a lot.

Thanks!
Ba means bust🤗 Love Your videos!👍😍
bust arc (1/2 bust)
I’m following along with your bodice block draft - but you mention BA - and I came to a stop. What is that? Bust Apex, Back Armhole, Back Armscye, - You keep referring to BA! I’ve fast forwarded the video to where you draft the front bodice and there are more references to BA???????
Same here! What the heck is BA? 😂

BA is Bust Arc, because we do 1/2 a bodice.
This term was confusing for many, so I'm working on a new video and I redid my PDF much improve. If you want it write me at dianedeziel@gmail.com remind me it's for blocks.

Hi Kim, You got it, I realize the BA is too confusing, when I will redo the video I will only divide the full measurements.
Diane

Thanks so much.. xx

and I will do one more for the skirt soon. On my channel I have over 140 videos Diane
Thank you Diane! You are truly awesome.. i love listening to and learning from you! x
Thanks so much ma. I understand everything except for the B A.
What is BA
Hi Diane. Please do you mind sharing what tools you use and where I can get it. Thank you
Love your videos. Can you advise on what type of dressmakers body form you use ?any suggestions before I buy one
Hello Diana,
My mannequin is a draping one, I think there are the best because there made to pin on, not only to present garment.
Diane
Diane Deziel Thank you so much for your prompt response. I love watching your video's.
Please I need clarity. Forward to 3.11, is half the shoulder blade or across shoulder the same as the "Across back"?
Hi you. Video very helpful guide.... 💞

hi dianne, how do you measure the shoulder blade? Is it front tip to tip of shoulder?
Good day Diane, please where exactly can I get the measurement chart? I’ve searched for it and can’t find it. Is it contained within one of the paid content? Also, what is BA? And the pint you used 1/2 of the shoulder measurement; is it half of shoulder to shoulder or half of neck point to shoulder? Thank you 🙏🏽

Amazing!!! You just made my day :)
Yesterday i did pattern, measurements that you used is almost the same as my difference is only waistline
But for some reason it didnt work my back is bigger than front. It's shouldn't be like that because of bust front must be bigger . And when i cut my front dart to be able to move my shoulder becomes smaller than 12cm

Waist 80
Sholder blade 38
Apex 20
Sholder 12
Center back 42

This is amazing!
Hello. Where did you get your ruler from pls? It's hard to find metric rulers here in US
What does BA mean? It was mentioned at 3.28 without any explanation that I could see on this video what BA means. I cannot use this video without knowing BA means, even though the whole video looks well put together.
I have followed this video and the pdf steps - thank you for putting together such a detailed guide. But my draft has the front and back side seams overlapping at the waist, and when I measure the full width on the bust line from centre back to front, it is 4cm short of my full bust measurement. I have drafted it twice, remeasured myself and each of the lines but still having the same issue :(
i love your videos can you show us how to draft bra pattern
Hi Diane, I’m a newbie at this thing and confused at the point where you do the neck to the shoulder. Am I supposed to measure neck to shoulder as I’ve got shoulder to shoulder width or arm hole measurement. Thanks for posting i find it so helpful.
Thanks! Quick and easy
how did u determine the eases for the bodice block? it seems like this technique is more technical in terms of the construction. however this is a good video where i can easily understand your way of explaining the drafting. thank you... hope to see u make a video for plus size bodice block in the future.
Hello Muhammad.
The ease measurements is usually
bust 4 cm or 1 1/2 in.
Waist 2 cm or 3/4 in.
hip 4 cm or 1 1/2 in.
In this video, I reduce it to half, for more modern adjustment, but the fit will be tighter,

Great tutorial!! Thank you for sharing :-)
Hi Diane. Why did you move the front shoulder dart over? What is the reason for taking such step? Trying to follow your vid to draft my first pattern.
Hello Angela,
The construction of the bodice blocks is not easy even for advance pattern maker.
This construction, like most of the other recipe, give the front shoulder dart placement next to the neck. I like to have it at the princess line so I just pivot it.
