Did this on my Honda HRV alloys. No curbing, but several areas of lacquer failure (gone milky) did it using sander and working through the grits. Didn’t spray the black as this was perfect, so just keyed up with a scotch. All spraying was by rattle can. Probably not as nicely finished as you’ve achieved, but much nicer than how they were when I started.
Top job, it’s amazing to see the young lad grow up from when the channel started first, it won’t be long until he is out with you helping out
Patience and prep is key, but a laborious process and it would drive me nuts now. I refurbished a few wheels 30 odd years ago never again, I was ready to stop after one kudos to you and now mid 50’s I don’t miss it 👌
The finished wheels look superb, well done Grant.
Hi Grant, great video, never seen alloys refurbishment before. Lovely job..!! Alex
Absolutely brilliant finish on these, Grant. I think they look better than diamond cut!
Well done mate they looked good 👍the van set up works very well, little man was great teach him how to scotch up the wheels his little hands will fit in the tight spots to key um up 👍👍👍👍
Brilliant work Grant on the wheels,I would have been happy with them,I think they look better without the rainbow effect.
Nice video grant. Thanks for teaching us your skills. Colin from Edinburgh. 🏴❤️🇵🇸
Hi Grant, just watched your video this morning, what’s the best clearcoat to use for Diamondcut wheels? I’m using an aerosol can as it’s just for a couple of wheels on my car DIY.
Fantastic job Grant! 💯👌🙏
Depending on the wheel design, if you go to 1000 grit . put a cut down grey scotch on a polisher at slow speed, work from the outside inwards. you can reproduce a descent diamond cut effect. Give it a go👍
Yeah it’s been 14 years since I done wheels so diamond cuts were not a thing then! I’m learning and taking on board all methods 👍👍
Hi, It does indeed take time & effort, hats off to you, the wheels look great. I diy'd/faced my own Audi 20" 5 spoke rims x4 in back garden and finished spraying up with a clear coat in a can in the shed not before lightly buffing them.(Was my first time). I had to restore them they looked terrible. Some People were amazed what i did with the drill.
Must admit the paint was well etched on.
I used a drill to start working in the same circumference arch as the wheel working inwards then used very fine grade sponge sanding pad & gently went around to the same diameter or arch of the wheel to get diamond cut finish or look alike.
Great job 👍🏻
Nice work Grant 👍🏻and thumbs up to little one 👍🏻
Nice job there grant and looked the dogs wotsits 😂you're lad at the end was funny bless him😄👍
Very interesting process Grant I've never seen wheels done in one of those vans so it was good to see how you did it👌those wheels looked quite a challenge mate with all the damage around the rim of the wheel it looks like the driver doesn't know how wide his car is😂very nice job Grant the wheels look like new👏🙏👍
You have done this before big grant you can tell I'm thinking it's just as difficult as smart repairs fantastic content again.
Nice work Grant, and I see you've got an apprentice at 2:39 the end, smashing lad talanted like his dad. Keep up the good work, cheers.
They turned out well in the end, good job buddy
Why didnt you just rub down the rim and lacquer it? Looked really good from your initial pass.
After painting black, what grit did you use to start sanding the black off again?
Nice mate very interesting video keep up the good work 😊
Do you need to add clear coat or is just for looks ? Will the polish aluminum corrodes if you don't ?
Yes a dtm clear coat
So you just clear coat straight onto bare alloy?
Hello Grant very nice !!
Nice finish, what kind of paint you using, 2k?
Another great video, if this was a normal job what would you of charged ?
£120 each
Nice work fella
what do you charge for a wheel diamond cut
Are you able to polish back a diamond finish or does that contaminate the alloy before lacquer
Yes you can also polish it up the clear it 👍
Nice one Grant loved the ending. Do these have to be rebalanced after? 👌
No I only break the front beads so the balancing is not effected
Awesome!
Bless ya lad !! 😊😊😊
You have a good day little-en and be lucky 🍀 👍
Hi mate are you using DTM laquer? If not they going to flake off we got a diamond cut machine at our place and we use jaytees I would keep away from diamond cuts that process looks way too long good job as always though mate
Yes mate I got DTM 👍 and they way is definitely ball ache, I’m trying another way now, I’ve not done wheels for 14years and obviously diamond cut was not a thing back then so it’s all a learning curve for me
Yeah looked a mission 😂 you always do a job whatever mate keep up the good work
Not diamond cut but Diamond Geezer !! Looked good Grant
The end was brilliant with littlen
Top job....as usual 😅😅 !!!!
Nice work big man
Is this method possible on wheels that have been diamond cut to within an inch of their life Grant?
Yes diamond cutting removes a lot more material then I do
Diamonds are a girls best friend Grant, until she realises how much you've just spent on havin ya ally's refurbed
Nice what do you charge for a wheel...alot of work mate...cheers from Kiwi
These were £100 each
Mate that's to cheap. I charge $155 + Tax here. A lot of work !!!!!
Great result as ever but you'll not want too many sets of them a week! A lot of work fir the going rate!
What lacquer did you use
On these I used a dtm lacquer
What you charging...
decent enough finish, the chunk out the tyre gives the game away.
A lot of time involved for these two wheels got to be a couple of hours certainly on the bad one how do you charge for the hours can’t be much profit in it👍
No money in these but they were a love job
What a great job
I've done a lot of Bmw/merc wheels convinced owners to let me prime the full wheel spray silver then tape off and spray black and clear, no one notices difference and will never corrode like the diamond cut does after a year
Absolute must if you want top dollar for your car first thing people will see is bad wheels then the whole picking will start before you no it you will be knocking a grand off
Thank you for sharing
Do you work in se London got minor park and gone damage rear quarter Toyota previa.
No sorry don’t do London I’m afraid
Lovely old job
Brilliant 👍
Hi Grant, enjoy watching your channel and how you do things. I’m interested in starting wheel refurb and would like to know what bead breaker you are using. Cheers
I’ll have a look if there’s a make on it, it was fitted to the van when I bought it
Does anyone know if you can paint diamond cut alloys had to buy one for my car but it’s not the same as other three so just wondering cheers
yes, he literally did it in this video then sanded it off.
Yes as video shows but if you don't get a colour match then best to paint all four at same time.
Very cool.
I used to run my own mobile alloy wheel repair company but the time it takes to repair a wheel for the money you get for it, I just couldn't make it pay
They were hard work, I think I should have blended some silver in and left most of the diamond cut on
I do between 12 and 16 wheels a day.i do ok from it.only do main dealers though
@@geegee2022 It's ok if you can work through a dealer, I was driving to a customer, then getting set up and doing the job, so if it was only one wheel that needed doing, then driving to another customer, I was only doing two jobs a day some days, or two wheels
What do you squeeze out of a dealership per wheel? £50? 60?
It’s ok if you charge enough but I can do my smart repairs too
