    The Last Waltz (2002)
    ¡IMPORTANT!
If anyone thinks they have footage (audience or professional) or an audience recording that no one else has (or that I haven't published) and wants to make it public, they can contact me.
    ¡IMPORTANT!
I never liked that they shortened the songs so that the movie didn't last that long, or at least they could have given them as bonus material for the 40th anniversary

Rick Danko is my cousin. I obviously never got to follow his career as he died only a few years after I was born. However, my mother always made me watch this concert in its entirety growing up so I knew who my cousin was and knew a part of our family history, and I’m so thankful she did. This particular genre isn’t my style, but when it comes to The Band, you CANNOT help but love every second of their music, no matter the song. This show was so powerful to me because you see them all at their worst, yet all at their very best. Truly a great end to their career.

That's awesome! It's hard to beat these guys really. Nobody really quite did what they do. They inspired a sea change in music from Eric Clapton to a host of others. They're responsible for a lot of the sound of the 70s in rock n roll. Hell before that they were Bob Dylans band. Hel they are The Band! Lol So much talents in one place

I love the Last Waltz. Your cousin, the brilliant Rick Danko, who is sadly missed, was a great singer and multi-instrumentalist. I love the part on the Last Waltz when Rick is a bit worse for wear when he's playing fiddle and singing "Old Time Religion" with Robbie Robertson and Richard Manuel. It's so funny but you can see what good friends they were. Rick with the rest apart from Levon Helm were part of Bob Dylan's most famous world tour of 1966. That's another amazing thing to be part of, aswell as being in the Band, he backed Dylan on concerts some critics call are some of the best ever and very iconic.
Thanks for sharing that with us. I really appreciate it. Take Care.

in their post--Robbie '80s revival with the Kate Brothers around central CA
I saw them in small venues where we danced close enough to the stage to see
Rick Danko had an especially radiant smile that bathed all present in warmth

Upon Robertson's passing I've dived back into music from The Band in the past couple weeks and so thankful for all of the video clips that survived thru the years. But I'm struggling with some serious melancholy, wishing I had seen Rick in concert in the years after The Last Waltz (I only ever saw The Band on Dylan's '74 tour). In addition to his great vocals and musicianship I've been so impressed with the passion and exuberance in his performances. His personality shines through. And his music lives on.

You are sad that Robbie passed, but you don't like him, hm. Usually when you don't like someone you are neutral when they pass, but I will take you at your word.I think if you read different accounts or books you might view Robbie in a different light. From his own book it is obvious he was torn up about Richads addiction, as well as Rick and Levon. Also Barney Hoskyns biograpy gives a different and pretty balances view of what happened.@@teacup3133

I was a touring musician when this film was released . I had been touring constantly with a rock n roll band for three or four years on the same circuit.
The situation put me in a musical rut I could not get out of.
When I watched the Last Waltz , I was immediately rescued from that rut because watching my musical heroes brought to me immense inspiration.
And so I received sort of a musical " second wind."
So grateful. I mean just watch Robbie Robertson; his excitement is
    CONTAGIOUS !

They had a influence on the likes of George Harrison, Eric Clapton, The Rolling Stones amongst others. Albums like Beggars Banquet, Let It Be, All Things Must Pass are just a few that has influence on them.

Its so hard to believe this concert took place in 1978, about 50 years ago now. This is such a great great concert and i just love to watch it over and over now. The thing is, I saw the band back in those days and I totally took them for granted. Maybe because there was SO much great music being made in those days. I saw many bands in the same concert hall as I did the Band. I saw bands like The Stones, Led Zep, Clapton, Santana, the Doobies, Yes, Jethro Tull, Tom Petty...well the list goes on and on. Its no wonder I blew the Band off in those days. Its only now that I realize I should have been paying more attention.

Are my ears just going on does one of the CD versions of this song have someone besides Richard singing the intro/lead? I have read there are different recordings used in the film vs. album, so maybe that's it? (I can check the year/version of the CD set I have.)

Levon sings along with Richard on some verses, on some mixes his voice is clearer and on the same level as Richard's (unlike Rick who only accompanies him in the choirs).
