I was thinking I would use the safe can opener to open the cans, rinse them out and just glue the top back on. I would have never thought of the packing tape, though. Good job!
I wouldnt be trusting Elmer's school glue with this project if your using the actual can with the sharp rim underneath just cuz kids play rough and the top would come off cuz it's not strong glue.bit that's just me

Nice I will be making but I'd save that bottom cap and use a lighter and burn it off like you do ribbon so it won't fray.
