How was "The Stand" not mentioned? That's my favorite Stephen King adaptation EVER. Hands down. Yes, ok, it was a "Mini-Series", but man that was AWESOME!!!!
I read The Stand about 30 years ago and it is still one of my all-time favorite novels. The miniseries, however, is one of the worst adaptations I've ever seen. Poorly cast, directed and acted. Truly awful and hard to watch. If you do see it, don't say I didn't warn you ;)
I remember reading The Stand the first time around, my dad brought it home one day from work I was 17 I picked it up and read the first page - I finished the book in one sitting I loved it has always and will always be one of my favorite films. Dad and I watched the mini series and he died a month later Im glad Ive got that memory with me.
Shane Mclellan It wasn't one of his best. And it wasn't one of his worst. They missed a lot of King stories brought to life. Salems Lot, Christine, Cujo, Firestarter, Cats eye, Storm of the century, The Mist, and so on. Lots of King stories fall in between the best and worst adaptations of his books.
Pet *S*emetary isn't one of his best (he's even said that he doesn't like it, and that he was going through a really bad, dark time when he wrote it) but it's decent enough to not belong on a 'worst of Stephen King' list. Just not quite good enough to belong on a 'best of Stephen King' list. (Although it has the best theme song of any film he's ever done, because The Ramones are always fucking awesome.)
What the fuck Thinner was amazing, what are you talking about. Movie was psychologically scary and truly kept me interested every second until the very end. I can't bealive the only reason you people think movie is bad because the latex suit looks bad, wow seriously. The werewolf scene from Company of Wolves looks fake and plastic as fuck and yet the movie is consider a cultural classic and a must watch for everybody for it's beauty and symbolism. Maximum Overdrive we truly boring and poorly made, that's a truly a bad movie. I can't recommend more for you guys to watch Thinner.
I don't think Thinner is an *amazing* film (it's not), but it's definitely a really solid, entertaining watch. The tone of the film is especially great though. It starts off with a kind of goofy, almost comedic tone with a guy in a big dumb fat suit that you want to laugh (and maybe groan) at; but as the movie progresses, the more weight he loses, the darker the whole thing gets, culminating in a super fucked up ending that's almost as dark as The Mist's finale. Thinner is by no means a perfect film, but I think it still definitely does not belong on a 'worst of Stephen king' list. (Especially when they didn't even mention the *TERRIBLE* 90's version of The Shining. That's one of the most garbage projects to ever be attached to the name Stephen King, and they didn't even mention it.)
My Top 20 Stephen King Adaptations 20) 1922 19) Creepshow 18) The Running Man 17) Children Of The Corn 16) Christine 15) Firestarter 14) Pet Semetery 13) The Dead Zone (1983) 12) Cujo 11) 1408 10) The Mist (2007) 9) Carrie (1976) 8) It Chapter 1 (2017) 7) Gerald’s Game 6) Dolores Claiborne 5) Misery 4) The Shining (1980) 3) Stand By Me 2) The Green Mile 1) The Shawshank Redemption
Running Man, what? Lol, that might be the worst because the gulf between fantastic (dystopian AF omg) story and horribly cheesy terrible film is about as wide as you can get.
ArkaeaFCL3 I remember when I watched Cujo as a child,i felt the heat, the dehydration, the suffocating feeling when watching the mother and her son trapped in a car
Ecoute debilos, le jour ou ton francais sera aussi bon que mon anglais tu pourras venir ouvrir ta gueule. Salut ta reum pour moi, j'ai jamais vu un tel aspirateur a teub... Voila voila
Almost all movies and miniseries based on Stephen King stories are great. Shawshank, Green Mile, Pet Sematary, It (1990, 2017 & Chapter 2), Shining (1980 & 1997), Doctor Sleep, Stand by Me, Salem’s Lot, Secret Window, Cujo, Creepshow, Christine, Misery, Dolores Claiborne, Carrie, The Mist, 1408, Children of the Corn, and so on.
Indecisive Players Great book. Movie was watchable. Most of Kings stories like the Stand, would require a 6-8 hour movie to do them justice. I haven't see the remake of It. But as that being the one King book I've read 4 times. Reading both the original published 1500+ page edittion. As well the 1800+ page full edition twice. I can't imagine how they can possibly tell the tale of _It_ on the big screen. The same would hold true for the Stand. They requier to much back story, and study of the thoughts of the characters, to appreciate the whole story.
the Stand WAS a miniseries with Ruby Dee Gary SINISE and Molly Ringwald which was EXCELLENT , and there is no remake as of yet, they did the awful dark tower instead
RIGHT?!?! this is what got me into king in the first place!!!! .....though the dark tower was terrible. who would've thought that matthew mccognauhey could give a worse performance of randall flgag that jaime sheridan? still, the stand and the dark tower series.... one of my favorite literary series of all time.
googlesux, of course hollywood can adapt it!!! just take the "lord of the rings" approach and give it three different movies. make the first one about the rise of the boulder free zone and las vegas, the second about the betrayal of harold laudner, and the last being the final journey of the boulder 4 who take the inevitable "stand." it could totally work, but i agree... there's so much information, you'd have to give it it close to 9 hours. NOW, whether or not they actually remake it? ......doubtful. the stand is ultimately the precursor to the dark tower series, as those universes are tied together. having said that, the film adaptation of the dark tower was TERRIBLE!!!! i mean, matthew mcconaughey really screwed up the randall flagg character.... like, he shred it to pieces.
I really liked Maximum Overdrive it was cheesy but that's what made it really funny and the soundtrack was good and I'm really interested in cars so that's what really sold it for me
I loved Dreamcatcher, the book and the movie also liked Maximum Overdrive, and found Riding the Bullet a bit creepy. Shawshank Redemption is one of my favorite movies, Absolutely loved Misery, book and movie version, as well as Dolores Claiborne, and IT, same with the Green Mile. Personally, I think King's scariest books/movies are Rose Red, The Stand, Pet Sematary, Christine, and Carrie.
Svetlana Rodriguez It has 5 out of 10 on IMDb, I think it’s safe to say either you’re blind and crazy or we’re crazy. And the evidence is pointing at you.
none the less it was a great adaptation though, the acting and tension was actually amazing, one of my favorite king films along with Misery, the original IT, Pet sematary and Christine
So its a kids horror movie? I still have no idea why "IT" ended up so popular with little shitheads who are now in their late twenties to early thirties. Im pretty sure if you did a poll you would find that 99.9999999% of people who like IT never saw it ever again since the first time when they were under 10 years old.
I saw Carrie on television as a child, and it still remains one of my favorites today. I loved Sissy Spacek"s vulnerability and Piper Laurie's portrayal of her bat shit crazy mother.
Jonathan2342 considering this moron got some of the story lines completely wrong I highly doubt he put any real effort into this video. Another person trying to leap on the Stephen King bandwagon.
verbal kent it’s actually about an old mansion that is haunted. It continues to build itself, people vanish and are never found, and the layout can completely change. A college professor gets a group of psychics together to “wake Rose Red up” but she doesn’t tell them that. It’s one of my favorites, probably the movie that got me into horror movies in the first place. I recommend checking it out if you haven’t already 😊
I just rewatched Dreamcatcher and it was not anywhere near as bad as this guy says. It had a great spooky tone to it and the end was epicly great and sad at the same time. I felt that it has a story somewhat like IT and Stand by Me. Also of course this guy left out The Mist for no reason and of course Christine which was a classic.
alphazoom II I also think movies are only as good as the beholder. Needful Things and Dreamcatcher put me IN the film. I felt like, “what the hell would I do if ...”
I actually enjoyed the dreamcatcher film and it's one of my fave books(Stephen King writes friendship so well...just look at shawshank, green mile, stand by me for example...... and the friends in dreamcatcher are awesome) Stand by me is perfect.
*10. Salems Lot 9. Carrie 8. Cujo 7. The green mile 6. Different Seasons 5. The Dead Zone 4. The shawshank redemption 3. The shining 2. Misery 1. Dolores Claiborne. lots of people will probably disagree with my number one choice but for me, the performances from Kathy Bates and Judy Parfitt are absolutely stellar. The scene where Vera rings her bell and asks for her China pig and starts weeping is not only chilling but miraculously heart breaking. What a masterpiece.*
The Shining may be a classic but ever since I read the novel, I'm on the author's side. I'm seriously hoping that they don't connect Doctor Sleep to it.
I actually enjoyed Riding the Bullet. I didn't find it boring; I found it quietly creepy. And..2 of my favorites not on the list..because they were Made for TV.. Mini-Series: The Langoliers and Storm of the Century. And..I loved the original It movie; the new It movie just didn't do it for me..probably because I was so obsessed with the original and the fact that..Tim Curry as Pennywise..was the bomb!!
The scene in Salem's Lot where the vampire is floating outside the window and scratching on the glass scared the freaking shit outta me when I was little.
i like the first half where it was about the 4 friends. the chemistry was great. then when the aliens and army thing started, it got very scattered and stupid.
To me the best Stephen Kings movie adaptations is the Shining even tought the ending is totally diferent from the book's. Is one of the best movies of all time

agreed. and Dreamcatcher was not that bad
It’s actually Pet Sematary
Children of the corn was terrible
I am surprized 'The Mist' was not on here.
Yes, the ending of the Darabont film is scary as hell. To me, the best adaptations of Stephen King are all from Frank Daranbont.
How could they include 1408 but not The Mist? The Mist was really good, I think it's one of the better films based on King's work.

Saška Prpić It has almost 4 out of 10 on IMDb, I think it’s safe to say there are mixed opinions about it.
That's how opinions are.
No
Thinner is awesome loved the film
Dream catcher was pretty good

Lucas Pigliavento 1922 was fantastic
Running Man, what? Lol, that might be the worst because the gulf between fantastic (dystopian AF omg) story and horribly cheesy terrible film is about as wide as you can get.
@@lanab644 it's your opinion
And also The Shining is my favorite:)
Good vid, but where's cujo? What about children of the corn??
ArkaeaFCL3 I remember when I watched Cujo as a child,i felt the heat, the dehydration, the suffocating feeling when watching the mother and her son trapped in a car
I must point out that profile picture dude, Gojira fucking rules!!!!!
Yeah, and no Salem's Lot either. This was a bullshit list.
True!!!
ArkaeaFCL3 I don't like cujo 😐
needful thing was very good.....
No. No it wasn't.
7-0 you lose
Le Quasar I don't "loose" anything. Forming opinions about movies isn't really a game.
Ecoute debilos, le jour ou ton francais sera aussi bon que mon anglais tu pourras venir ouvrir ta gueule. Salut ta reum pour moi, j'ai jamais vu un tel aspirateur a teub... Voila voila
Le Quasar
Hey je peux parler français aussi
The Misery is one intense movie
Nothing at all it's not "the misery" it's just "misery"
How true.
Yeah, especially when annie hobbles Paul's feet with a sledgehammer. That scene still makes me cringe in pain.
How dare you cut on Maximum Overdrive!!! I love that flick!
The Mist 2007 Was Amazing!
just the ending
Everything about it was awesome
is there another version of it? other than the one from 2007?
The ending was the best part of the movie.
What about The Stand ?? Novel was one of his best , hard to put such a long complex story to film !
Moon and that spells the walking dude.
No the mini series sucks it is a Christian movie
The Stand?
Was thinking about this one. great mini series.
They requier to much back story, and study of the thoughts of the characters, to appreciate the whole story.
the Stand WAS a miniseries with Ruby Dee Gary SINISE and Molly Ringwald which was EXCELLENT
, and there is no remake as of yet, they did the awful dark tower instead
RIGHT?!?! this is what got me into king in the first place!!!! .....though the dark tower was terrible. who would've thought that matthew mccognauhey could give a worse performance of randall flgag that jaime sheridan?
still, the stand and the dark tower series.... one of my favorite literary series of all time.
googlesux, of course hollywood can adapt it!!! just take the "lord of the rings" approach and give it three different movies. make the first one about the rise of the boulder free zone and las vegas, the second about the betrayal of harold laudner, and the last being the final journey of the boulder 4 who take the inevitable "stand." it could totally work, but i agree... there's so much information, you'd have to give it it close to 9 hours.
Maximum Overdrive? That was awesome! AC/DC track and all. So bad it's good low budget fun.
I loved Maximum Overdrive too, it was one of my favourites along with The People Under The Stairs.
I'm so old I saw Maximum Overdrive in the theatre... Loved it and the soundtrack
Honey. Come on over here sugar buns. This machine just called me an asshole.
As a kid, I loved Maximum Overdrive.
Gerald's game. Netflix. Watch it immediately!!!
I watched it today and it made me so uncomfortable. That’s a great thing.
Stephanie Douranakis unsettling from start to finish. It definitely helped to wash the bad taste of the dark tower out of my mouth.
So good!
im just waiting for 1922. it look even more fucked up.
yes i actually watched this last night! amazing
I really liked Maximum Overdrive it was cheesy but that's what made it really funny and the soundtrack was good and I'm really interested in cars so that's what really sold it for me
I loved the part in Maximum Overdrive when the wife says "Are you dead?" OMG LMAO who asks a question like that? XD
I cried so much at the Green Mile
Oh man, me too. I had no water left in my body after watching that movie. So damn sad.
I remember watching Stand By Me and you are right, it was really good.
What about The Stand?
Apt Pupil- One of Kings Best, and always forgotten.
The Shining,Misery, and Stand By Me are my favorites from Stephen King :)
I seen the Shining & Stand By Me and they were great. Never seen Misery for some reason.
Sameeee
The shining is one of favorite movies I have on disc :) Stephen King's The Shining is still pretty good though :)
How could you not like Thinner? It's so good.
The Mist was epic. It deserves to be mentioned.
Ya'll crazy. Thinner was good.
Svetlana Rodriguez It has 5 out of 10 on IMDb, I think it’s safe to say either you’re blind and crazy or we’re crazy. And the evidence is pointing at you.
Svetlana Rodriguez Thinner sounds like a good movie to watch
@@mr.valentine5493 If you take IMDB ratings seriously then you' re the crazy one.
Totally agree! This i very underrated movie and super close to the book + the soundtrack is great!
Yeah, I actually liked it :0
You forgot to add Gerald's Game. It's a fantastic movie
idefy7 this vudeo cake out before that came out
none the less it was a great adaptation though, the acting and tension was actually amazing, one of my favorite king films along with Misery, the original IT, Pet sematary and Christine
it's not a movie it's a mini series
Mystery Bunny's Adventures! He means the remake
idefy7 When did they turn that into a movie?
That was one hell of a book.
The 1990s IT made me laugh.
PikesterJetster you probably didn't watch it when you were younger
So its a kids horror movie? I still have no idea why "IT" ended up so popular with little shitheads who are now in their late twenties to early thirties. Im pretty sure if you did a poll you would find that 99.9999999% of people who like IT never saw it ever again since the first time when they were under 10 years old.
the original movie is the awful, it is surprising how many people get offended when you say that.
I watched it in the 90s when I was a teenager and it scared me shitless
PikesterJetster did you watch it in the 90's though? Doesn't count if you only watched it when it was already really dated
I saw Carrie on television as a child, and it still remains one of my favorites today. I loved Sissy Spacek"s vulnerability and Piper Laurie's portrayal of her bat shit crazy mother.
The Night Flier was amazing! .... So sad to see it on the worst list....
TurtleHermit627 TurtleHermit627 agreed so hard.
Shawshank is one of the best movies ever
I loved "Apt Pupil"! Both Ian McKellen and Brad Renfro are brilliant.
Maximum Overdrive is a classic i dont know what you are thinking!!
Jonathan2342 considering this moron got some of the story lines completely wrong I highly doubt he put any real effort into this video. Another person trying to leap on the Stephen King bandwagon.
@@cheshiresmile5960 There's much better authors out there who sadly don't get the recognition they deserve.
WHAT! Dreamcatcher was wonderful! This list sucks.
Yes very stupid list. Anything Mick Garris directed sucked. Sleepwalkers.... lol. I also liked Dreamcatcher.
Yea this list does suck. There are several movies on this list that I find pretty damn good!
Dreamcatcher was awesome! This channel just picks the movies based on what the critics thought. Critics know nothing.
Its his personal opinion
Has anyone seen rose red? Havent seen it in a while but I always remember loving that movie
About the hotel it was always on the sky horror channel in the uk
verbal kent it’s actually about an old mansion that is haunted.
It was a made for tv movie, I actually recorded it in jr high but VHS is obviously no more.
It wasn't adapted from a King novel. King wrote the screenplay, it was adapged from someone else's book.
Kristine oh wow! Well I learned something new lol
Whoa hold on a minute most movies from the 80's and 90's are cheesy, but that's what gives them their charm I love most of these titles 😃
Maximum Overdrive was awesome.
Firestarter > all those movies
Sorry but Dreamcatcher and Needful Things are great films.
I actually enjoyed the dreamcatcher film and it's one of my fave books(Stephen King writes friendship so well...just look at shawshank, green mile, stand by me for example...... and the friends in dreamcatcher are awesome)
Stand by me is perfect.
*10. Salems Lot
9. Carrie
8. Cujo
7. The green mile
6. Different Seasons
5. The Dead Zone
4. The shawshank redemption
3. The shining
2. Misery
I remember watching Maximum Overdrive as a kid. I honestly didn't think that it was scary at all.
It was fun.
Willow Editing especially with the toy truck having A GOD DAMN MOUNT OF THE GREEN GOBLIN!
It’s not meant to be, it’s supposed to be campy fun!
I personally loved both the book and movie of 'Dreamcatcher', only me?
The Nightcore Demon aha you're not alone, I actually just watched it not too long ago but I love it!
Here’s my top 5:
5. Christine
4. Misery
3. Cujo
2. The Shining
1. It
My fav was the shining:D
I don't care what people say "IT 1990" is amazing, and will forever remain a true horror classic that will never go out of style!
True!
Stand By Me is my favorite movie to ever exist.
The Shining may be a classic but ever since I read the novel, I'm on the author's side. I'm seriously hoping that they don't connect Doctor Sleep to it.
The Shining movie > the book
Yeah, the movie is awesome. And Doctor Sleep is a sequel to The Shining meaning that all the events that took place in the Overlook Hotel happened
Uh they did, I personally loved Stanley Kubrick's The Shining, and Doctor Sleep, his version is pretty good too, both were done very well .
I always liked Maximum Overdrive.
Storm of the Century was great, yes!
The scene in Salem's Lot where the vampire is floating outside the window and scratching on the glass scared the freaking shit outta me when I was little.
King is so renowned as a horror author, sometimes I forget his range.
I loved 'Dreamcatcher' :o)
Same here!
i like the first half where it was about the 4 friends. the chemistry was great. then when the aliens and army thing started, it got very scattered and stupid.
I never seen it but I seen alot of "I loved Dreamcatcher" in this comment section so I should go and watch it.
@@samnangpoe You should definitely read the book! It should help if you have any confusion. :)
I freaking love Stand By Me and Carrie
To me the best Stephen Kings movie adaptations is the Shining even tought the ending is totally diferent from the book's. Is one of the best movies of all time
My favorite movie:)
Pet semetary and IT are my all time Stephan King books I have read them so many times and it never gets old I love them to much
Best: The Shining, Misery, Stand By Me, Pet cemetery, Cujo, It.
Worst: Dark Tower, Thinner.
It is a one of the worst movies of the world
I really like pet cemetery and the shining:) lol replying at like 1am here
