Agatha Christie's Short Story "Accident" Read By Hugh Fraser
The Mystery of "Accident" by Agatha Christie: An Intriguing Short Tale
Agatha Christie's "Accident", part of her compelling short story repertoire, showcases her mastery in weaving suspense and psychological depth. This tale, first published in The Witness for the Prosecution and Other Stories, is a gripping narrative about uncovering hidden truths and the unforeseen consequences of seemingly ordinary actions.
The story revolves around retired Inspector Evans, who, while living a quiet life in the English countryside, recognizes a woman with a dark past. This woman, Mrs. Merrowdene, is suspected of having committed a heinous crime but was never convicted. As Evans grapples with his suspicions, he observes her interactions and begins to uncover chilling clues.
The brilliance of "Accident" lies in Christie's ability to maintain tension while subtly revealing the psychological turmoil of her characters. The twist ending, a hallmark of Christie's storytelling, keeps readers guessing until the very last moment.
This story explores themes of morality, justice, and the unpredictability of human behavior. Fans of Christie's works will appreciate the sharp dialogue, detailed descriptions, and the moral dilemmas faced by the protagonist.

A good fictional from the regional story here:
Captain Hook came across in his office someone whom ran into the place all afraid in frite, "Hurry, help I'm needing. There was a buglar who ran from the City Bank and stole my purse as he ran by!" Captain reassured the woman, "Madame, please have some water, while I go and get my notepad to jot down all you have to report here. Please be ready." This woman did her very best to reliance of herself to retell what happened.
While Captain and Madame was speaking about and she was in the most of reporting what had happened, he saw this man ran by, "that's him!" Madame exclaimed! Captain ran outdoors and tackled him to the ground and keep his armed nozzled.

    Wasn't this a bit simplistic?
The police would know she did it,
after finding the poison in his stomach.

One of her early books Accident was only a short story, written by Agatha Christie which was first published in the Sunday Dispatch in 1929 in the UK. In 1934, the story was compiled and published as part of the collection The Listerdale Mystery. In the US, the story was not published until 1943 in the Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine and subsequently as part of the 1948 collection The Witness for the Prosecution and Other Stories. Police might have been not upto speed back then?

@@alanfordyce I see. But Christie had studied poisons and the ways people used them for murders. If she knew, the police knew too. I think.
