Dude, I'm loving the practical, humorous, and simplistic value of your videos. I train in MMA and also teach traditional martial arts to kiddos. Much respect and thanks for posting. I also signed up on your site. Thanks again.
No joke but that's a different scenario, in that case, if you have one that pull it out, or try to use you communications skill. Martial arts is for different scenario. And respect trav for what he is doing.
Awesome video. You can never go wrong with practing the basics over n over and seeing it from different people helps to improve myself. Love the shoulder pop drill im gonna use that today.
Yeah, it's called training ... artists, musicians and painters don't become great at what they do by sitting around not doing what they want to be great at. So yeah, train and train and train ... there ain't no overnight sensations kids - but hard work gets it done every time.
is one of the easiest ways of improve, with a good stand, basic foot work and this basic slip guide your defence improve a lot and you can get all this in like a week is just a simple reflex that must be traing a few minuts a day for some days, even if you are not perfect in any of the technics you become harder to hit by a regular guy, and also you are not so easy to knock out even by a normal boxer, when you practice this things a little bit all day you get used to it very quickly
What's the best way to train if you don't have a proper sparring partner? Also, I have this condition where even the slightest hit to my nose will cause me to squirt blood everywhere.
I just want ya'll to know that this video helps me alot. Actually I always wanted to be a boxer but I got no trainer. RUclips is always my trainer. And I watched this and started training for like only a week. Then I asked all of my friends to punch me in the face. Only in the face okay, and there I did what this guy told me to do and it does work 😀 that was the best moment in my experience. And yeah guys dont give up. I worked hard without coach or any trainer. Only youtube help me 😁😁
REDHEADZ 11 try not to fight unless your adrenaline is building up and your pressure releases which is possible if you have anger like me and just start throwing them hands i hate bullies and if they are black i apologize my people are very fucking dumb smh
REDHEADZ 11 My advice is to take on a Martial Art with a reputable coach/master and explain your situation. Back when I was in middle school I was going through the same so I started doing karate with a former 2 time national champion (and one time 2nd place) Worked for me
i watched this video and the next day i went to a local boxing gym and beat their top boy, i recommend you going to your local boxing gym after this and challenging their top guy, trust me guys! it works!
I tried to use these notes when I was fighting in the bathroom, but the guy was throwing punches real fast and I couldn't dodge it so I picked him and dropped him to the ground.
At the 5:35 mark, I would like to point out that slipping inside leaves you open to an uppercut, hook, etc. If you like to slip inside, you should move to block your opponent's other hand so that he doesn't have a chance to punch you. Personally, I prefer to slip outside, circle immediately and counter.
Watch some Mike Tyson fights, or videos of him training. He "U-ducks" under the hooks and rips deadly hooks to the body. One "shovel" hook from him to the liver will end a fight. Trav covers this well in other videos. Buying his "all access" pass is a good investment in learning excellent fighting techniques.
When there is a punch I see coming and I know it is to late to weave or step to the side I use one hand to lessen the impact (I just hold it on my face) and at the same time with the other hand punch him back.
Thank You,Your Advice Is Very Useful. You Make It Look So Easy.Nice Head Movement.Nice I Never Knew I Could Slip To just One Side No Matter which Fist Is Being Thrown.Very Nice.
+Glasnost88 Well, not really. Cause left hand is extended at that split second of the moment. And before opponent knows where target is (w/c is the head), Trav would already have launched his counter.
+Gaming Hamst3r One thing's for sure though. It's not easy to hit a moving target. Unless he stays in that position for so long then in that case he becomes a sitting duck. And apparently Trav knows this principle well.
Can you please make a video with a sequence of techniques, the basics, moving the head, moving the legs, counter punching. This will be very useful. Such videos with 2-3-4 techniques in a row, with a real situation will be extremely useful. Thans!
Hey Trav, I absolutely love your videos. I've been doing BJJ for quite a while, and about a year ago I took up kickboxing as well. These videos offer a really complete look into basic techniques, with great (and often funny) explanations. Just 1 question: This head movement technique is really great and I'm learning a lot. But what if I'm sparring with a person who's also watched your vids, and easily slips my punches? What would you say is the best counter to this technique?
Irishenforcer89 there was actually a skull and shin strengthening vid that i used to watch...i think it was something about chinese monks or thai fighters and what i believe they said to create ''mini fractures'' that occur along the outer egde of your cranial dome and shin bones by hitting them softly with something solid and hard...repeatedly, but all and all miniature shots to the area you want to strengthen
I agree that slipping to your inside is probably advantageous in a street fight, but those that are aspiring boxers should not make this a habit. Slip to the outside of the punch always, to expose your opponents' body for counter-punches and just to basically be a smaller target for your him. If you slip inside of a jab you are putting your face directly in the path of a right hand if your opponent chooses to throw one in quick succession. Awesome tips though
It's not necessarily always the inside, I suppose that's a pretty vague term. You always slip to the outside of their punch. Two orthodox fighters, you slip to your right of their jab, and to the left of their cross.
HPM Boss Not if you're a peek-a-boo boxer. They always slip to the left to avoid jab cross combination. If they slip to the right, then they follow with the V-bob. Then they spring forward and twist. Work the body and head. Tyson's favorite combo. But peek a boo is hard to learn. I'm practicing with it now.
I admire these technical tips of yours brother. I just have one question, this might not be that related to this video but does shadow boxing also enhance musle memory? like instant reaction to throw a counter punch? Sorry for my english by the way.
I trained at Billy the Kid Irwin’s gym in Niagara Falls Canada for many years. Billy was light weight world Champion, British Commonwealth champion etc.. He would watch the new boxers who wanted to start training with him, and he’d get upset if they didn’t spend 20 or 30 min shadow boxing as a warmup. He was a no nonsense guy and didn’t spend time on techniques that weren’t helpful, so he saw value in shadow boxing ‘in front of a mirror’.
I'm 160 pounds 14 years old 5'6 and got my ass wooped today for standing up for myself I really want to learn how to fight I'm pretty good at dodging but my reaction time is slow any good tips I wanna get better is it because I'm heavy
get down to a boxing club and i promise you within 2-3weeks you will notice a different in your technique. i train 5 days a week 4 hours a day and within 2 months i am fighting adults and beating them, im also the same age but about 5-11
I used to do light sparring with a friend of mine, bought a couple of 12oz pairs of gloves and mouthguards. I was fair unco but I worked on dodging during our sparring and it was by far the most useful thing for me (though I wish I had these vids back then). I got into a punchup with some knobhead on NYE and he gave up after missing his first 2 swings. It's a shitty substitute for boxing training but it's a good way to get comfortable dodging 'smelly cheese' from some random, untrained wanker if you're a poor ass uni student. Though it takes a good and calm friend to exchange relatively harmless punches in the face and not lose their head. One of my mates almost knocked me out. Caution and adult supervision is recommended.
make a friend of your grab some gloves and throw some punches at you, make some hit and others dont, you make them hit you so you now what punches feel like and you get used to get punched in the face, second of all you train your head movement. after that, learn how to float like a butterfly and sting like a fucking musquito who caries malaria xD worked for me, the best way to now how to fight is by sparring/fighting, the only thing you need is a pair of gloves and some 3 other homies you can train with. no adult supervision is necessary for this training. i mean come aan, nobody out there is gonna step up for u in the time of need in a dark alley corner :/ train with your buddies everyday, and fight back, my motivation song - Aloe Blacc - THE MAN, with that song I feel like a Bull chasing a red ass in a colosseum xD makes my blood pump! hell makes everybody's blood pump!!! wish you many lucks in your trainings !
easy. I remember dodging like this when some prick tried to hit me in the head as hard as he could and he ended up punching the brick wall behind me and broke his arm.
I’ve been training BJJ for many years but I definitely see the value of striking also. I just enjoy the ground more. I really need to add some striking to my training. However I did have to break up a fight a few months ago and my BJJ ran through the guy with very little effort. It was the first time I had ever needed to use it on the street and I was amazed how easy it was to put an untrained fighter to sleep. Best part was he had no damages when he woke up. No lawsuit. No charges. When you knock them out with strikes it’s gonna leave a mark.
one day when I was 6 I dodged my mom's slap, after that I just didn't do a thing. I still remember it. Now I think that I was an ultra instinct that day.
Awsome video trav, been searching for something like this for a while and glad I found your video! Going to try this technique out at the gym tonight on the bag
I made the fatal mistake of thinking I could just do these moves in an actual fight, let me tell you, it’s a lot scarier when your actually fighting. You NEED to train.
Lol if you tryed to use this on the streets with no experience youd see the enemy punch with some crazy ass flamingo flapping directional punch , and be like how dafuq do i dodge dat, cause on the streets unless their trained or have some sort of basic know how no one can punch for shiet.
Otosaka Yuu- "I got no" is not proper English. "I have not" or "I never had" would be correct. Training, or instruction, not treatment. Now, you have been trained.
this guy is amazing and if he had a gym I'd 1000% go to him but I feel like watching videos doesnt do as much justice as practicing and learning in person but if you ever get a gym in Massachusetts I'd love to come learn!!
3:14 man if you're always slipping to one side the person punching is gonna fake a jab and throw a huge right hook right into your face. Just watch and see how easy that'd be.
Sean Fisher if you’re running and they chase you, they will most definitely NOT punch while running unless if you stop moving. They’ll get you on the ground. When someone says run away from fights, it doesn’t mean only running on and on, because no one can do that forever. Finding a place where you can get help is your goal, not aimlessly sprinting away
Sean Fisher I’m just an ordinary guy using common sense. I may be wrong about some things, but running away is definitely one of the best options for a non-fighter like me. I’d like to learn more though
Sean Fisher thing is, what else can you do if you can’t fight? Ordinary people shouldn’t try to fight their way out of everything if they don’t know how. And then, what if there are multiple people?
that just wouldn't hurt at all (if it connected) and he could just lean further and slightly back and make the guy look like the stupid bitch you dropped on prom night...
Why the hell are you teaching people to slip on the opponent's inside...?. You are just going to get clocked with their right if they are in an orthodox stance. You should slip to their outside.
Maybe variety and mindgames, lets say that you have been slipping inside and you know that your opponent knows it so he's going to try to counter that, then you slip to the right, mindgames ?
BonDraper No shit you "can" slip both ways. However you should (primarily) slip to their outside. And since this guy is teaching beginners "how to dodge punches" the LAST thing he should be doing is teaching people to slip on the inside and get clocked by a straight.
Peter Tago-on I think ironman and cap america are about the same level in fighting so I wouldn't underdog captain america. unless stark has his "superior ironman " suit he's not gonna beat the Cap.
fantastic, our instructor would teach these same techniques. but he always insisted moving to the outside and counter with combinations. it is a safer technique, to avoid the his right hand cross or upper cut.

easy. I remember dodging like this when some prick tried to hit me in the head as hard as he could and he ended up punching the brick wall behind me and broke his arm.
Same thing happened to me but he broke his fingers and wrist then ran off in tears lol, this was at school lol.
hahahaha same with me it was back in high school all I did was hit him in the stomach then that was it he just walked off.
You won't be dodging any punches by watching this video, go to a gym and learn
Yeah but we just trying to understand the correct way for dodging
how can i think of all this during a fight?
MHT JABER Instinct will take over. don't worry
Practice and you won’t even think
MHT JABER instinct
one day when I was 6 I dodged my mom's slap, after that I just didn't do a thing. I still remember it. Now I think that I was an ultra instinct that day.
@@BleyDrim damn bro that’s crazy
R u mastered ultra instinct yet?
@@BleyDrim but u achieve it, right?
lol. I feal like i would actually slip into my opponent's punch.
That's when you go all in and show them how real punching works.
If they're throwing a punch at a weird ass angle, just block with your elbows, it'll hurt them a lot more than it'll hurt you.
Otosaka Yuu- "I got no" is not proper English. "I have not" or "I never had" would be correct. Training, or instruction, not treatment. Now, you have been trained.
Lol ^ this bitch had to edit her own comment on correcting someone
455todrive lmaoooo
this guy is amazing and if he had a gym I'd 1000% go to him but I feel like watching videos doesnt do as much justice as practicing and learning in person but if you ever get a gym in Massachusetts I'd love to come learn!!
3:14
man if you're always slipping to one side the person punching is gonna fake a jab and throw a huge right hook right into your face. Just watch and see how easy that'd be.
if it wasnt of 03:49 i was never going to 'like" the video even if i love it.
vijay
poriya
Dude, you're awesome!!! Maybe you don't know it but... You might be saving lots of people with your vids
Now my mom can't fight back when she doesn't buy me a xbox

It's Tom from the ultimate fighter 😂

A cripple that can walk?
Has science gone too far?

Lmao ikr
Omg i was gonna say

wao!!!!! eres el mejor bro! lo puse a prueba hoy en karate y sin practicarlo! y deje a todos inpresionados en el Dojo!
The most effective way to dodge punches is to run away
NICE
Sean Fisher how is it not?
And then, what if there are multiple people?
that guy was on ultimate fighter wasn't he ?
Your videos are so entertaining, I love em
I wish I was Saitama so I can dodge 10 times faster than anyone can....;(
6:45 Tomas got punched in the face for this video haha
ABONESR im sorry are u okey, Yeah yeah im okey, then crying alone xD in a corner Ahahahah xD
Like your vids dude! Good humor in it too!
this must be blake griffins brother 😳
He looks like Blake Griffin and sounds like Andy Bernard! 😂
you're awesome!!!!! I LOVE ALL YOUR VIDEOS! your passion and knowledge make this flawless
im that awkward guy who can't land a punch but they can't ether so...
Any Mairimashita! Iruma-kun fans here?
Trav, leaning a lot from you please keep your web side going....thank's
what if he punched you with both hands lol
that just wouldn't hurt at all (if it connected) and he could just lean further and slightly back and make the guy look like the stupid bitch you dropped on prom night...
most of the power comes from body not the arm so doing a double punch wouldn't hurt much
Why the hell are you teaching people to slip on the opponent's inside...?. You are just going to get clocked with their right if they are in an orthodox stance. You should slip to their outside.
Maybe variety and mindgames, lets say that you have been slipping inside and you know that your opponent knows it so he's going to try to counter that, then you slip to the right, mindgames ?
+neomanxl you can slip both ways. depends on where you wanna be
BonDraper No shit you "can" slip both ways. However you should (primarily) slip to their outside. And since this guy is teaching beginners "how to dodge punches" the LAST thing he should be doing is teaching people to slip on the inside and get clocked by a straight.
if u say so
@@Djinner13 punch them in the face before they punch you it will surely stun them if not it will make their punch weaker it will not even hurt u lol
This is SUCH a good video..... Great channel n great teacher 👍
Sometimes i want to punch you on your perfect teeth :D #TeamIronMan
+Bruce Nguyen never underestimate stark industry bruh 😏
Peter Tago-on I think ironman and cap america are about the same level in fighting so I wouldn't underdog captain america. unless stark has his "superior ironman " suit he's not gonna beat the Cap.
lol this is the first time I actually like and subscribe because the presenter said so, mannnnn I'm really caught up in this
fantastic, our instructor would teach these same techniques. but he always insisted moving to the outside and counter with combinations. it is a safer technique, to avoid the his right hand cross or upper cut.
Your boy summed it up great there at the end!
Dude! You are a great teacher and entertaining video personality! If you made cooking or how to change oil videos, I'd watch 'em! Well done.
This dude is hilarious. I've been wanting to get into a martial art or at least start educating myself when I can, and this seems like the perfect opportunity since I can work out anywhere. Just signed up!
great stuff man. I'm thankful for this video. keep up the good work
You are amazing, Fight Smart, the best...
