      @@christineayres7199no offence to Ichika, definitely one of the most promising guitar talents of today but people have been doing this before Ichika and after the great Stanley Jordan. People aren't familiar with them because they were either playing in different genres or aren't as accessible as there were no RUclips back when they were around. The guitarist from TTNG comes to mind, he mostly just plays the guitar like a piano but his music genre was not known to have guitar virtuoso in them so he went unnoticed. Also there's this older gentleman I can't fully remember his name, probably something like Pat Tuck or something that's not well known because they're just underground for a lot of mainstream people, just like how underground Stanley Jordan was to other casual music enjoyer.

      I feel.like over half of being well known as a great guitarist, is having recognizable songs.
      An example:
      Eric Clapton vs Jeff Beck
      Both are excellent guitarists, but while everyone has heard of Clapton, telling someone you're listening to Jeff Beck gets you mostly a "who?" as a response.
      Clapton isn't better than Beck by much, if at all. However, Clapton has a slew of instantly recognizable (by the masses) tunes, while Beck does not.
      I fancy myself a bit of a guitar head. I try to find great guitarists from all types of genres. But I never knew of Stanley until maybe 4-5 months ago.

    • @krazyk2033
      @krazyk2033 Год назад

      Michael Hedges is on this level. The reason I say this is because Hedges often sang while employing his ridiculous technique. I saw Stanley Jordan at an amazing theater with great acoustics (it’s like a great instrument for guys like him) and he noted that at his introduction and said that it affected his playing positively when he can hear things well. He played one of his compositions, “All the Children”, which is beautiful but not so much due to his technique. I always figured he wrote words to it, and he actually tried to sing while playing it (no mic but I was close enough to hear his voice). Michael Hedges played at a bar I worked at and asked me to unplug the beer cooler during his sound check because it had a hum that was disturbing him. Hedges held a note (singing) longer than anyone I’ve heard and he could sing while playing challenging guitar parts. I don’t believe anyone can bring more out of six strings than Stanley Jordan, especially when considering he had no peers when he was doing this stuff in the early 80’s and no heroes to learn it from. That being said, Michael Hedges could play multiple guitar parts, tap out percussion on the body of the guitar, and sing on top of all that. I’m blessed to have had the opportunity to see both many times. Thank you SJ and MH 🙏❤️

    I'm pretty sure I read about Stanley Jordan in one of my guitar mags in the 80s before I actually heard him do his thing. Saw a picture, didn't know who he was or even what the heck kind of guitar that thing he was playing was. Then I saw him on one of the late night shows at the time (Carson? - don't remember). And holy s**t!!! I had no idea. It was like hearing Eruption for the first time x10. Mind, totally blown. Two-handed tapping in the mid-80s was as common as big hair and shoulder pads. But I'd never seen or heard anything like Stanley Jordan before. Then he sort of fell off my radar. Strange. And now I see this clip from '86. Think I need to get reacquainted. This guy is a true guitar phenomenon.

      Long time ago hearing music (on the radio) was more appreciated than seeing an attractive person perform with no talent (lip syncing & auto tune!)…..
      Music industry leans towards looks than talent! That’s prob why u hadn’t heard of him right away!?

      There is always better music being made. You just haven't heard it yet because there's so much music around.
      If you kid yourself that the past was somehow better, you stop growing. "Things were better back when" is a cliché parroted by tired old men. Don't be like that old fart who yelled at you when you were young to turn your music down. Your young self would never have wanted that.
