      Actually to me it’s not Jon’s fault on the dull moments in the movie, it’s the lack of expressions and more attitude with SOME OF the voice actors and actresses, because when they translated it in Hindi , Russian and Mandarin Chinese, the movie got more alive because of the dubbings, the way they expressed it were more expressive than the English version, if you also understand any of this other languages the more you’ll understand me. Anyway.... Jon’s visual effects can win an Oscar.

    I think most everyone loves Jon Favreau and I think he's a very talented guy, but it's interesting that some of the weaker aspects of this movie were actually conscious decisions
    Like telling the animators to go entirely for naturalism in every way possible; it just clashes so hard with the musicality.
    I think the public allows a lot of creative license; I don't think anyone would be bothered if every single sky of the movie was utterly gorgeous or if Rafiki stood up a little too high
    As long as the emotion of the scene read correctly

      @ccandmore 5 лет назад +3

      That's an interesting thought. Now that you mention it, I think this on its own is a huge risk that disney and jon favreau took. and perhaps because of that, they did not want to compromise the story beats at all should this animation style not go over well. I personally loved it though! But obviously it's not as good as the original.

    • @The_Real_Frisbee

      That last sentence is why I think this movie failed (obviously I don't mean that it was a financial or box office failure, before anyone tries to argue). Sure, it's realistic and they did a good job on that part, however the emotion is not there whatsoever.

    Unrelated commentary, probably. I'm pretty sure Disney isn't making remakes of lesser known movies, but if they are going for photorealism, Dinosaur would be the movie remake I would watch. That movie's animation still holds up for today's standards in my opinion, but having realistic and scientifically accurate Mesozoic biodiversity in a darker take on the original story about survival and such would be pretty interesting.

I’m also a big score/soundtrack person, so I listened to the soundtrack for a good week before the movie came out so I would only have it in my head and not the original. I was really able to appreciate this movie for what it was intended to be, and it was still nostalgic enough for me to still feel a connection to the original.

      I think mostly everyone was hoping for a different story telling and perhaps an even darker one. It’s mostly the adults who are complaining, and this movie was always for kids anyway. I totally understand what they were going for with the animalistic emotions, body language/behaviors, etc. except I think they could have let some of that realism slide especially when there’s parts of crying like Simba. I don’t think actual animals can produce tears, but that should’ve been allowed in the film. I didn’t mind how the emotions looked for the most part.

      He did make the movie he wanted to make. Absolutely. He was successful at that. The movie he wanted to make was built on the most perverse and baffling concepts I have ever seen in a Disney movie. It comes across as a sick and sad and grotesque experiment. I’ve never seen such bad ideas so perfectly realized in a movie before. It left me speechless. Favreau did everything _wrong._ And, apparently, listening to him discuss it above, were not failures or accidents. Every single decision that led to this monstrosity is against the grain of competent filmmaking.

    I enjoyed watching this breakdown and this has made me interested to watch the audio commentary for TLK when it releases on blu-ray.

    My only wish is that.. i want them to fix the "Can you feel the love tonight" scene with actual nightday , not "Can you feel the love afternoon"

      Saddan Radman well where I live it gets dark at 9pm. Might be the same in whatever part of Africa this takes place lol. It could be actually night time
