Actually, in real life he suffered from anxiousness, having had a rough childhood - a kid who just wanted to be happy, and make others happy too, with his comedy; he even sent his own daughter guffawing out of his hospital room on his own death bed.

No one could have done what Don Knotts did in developing the character of Barney. He gave us new insight into this character on a regular basis. I loved the beauty of the on-screen relationship between the simple yet complex deputy and his boss, the sheriff. No matter how many times I’ve seen an episode, I can still fall in love with a rerun when I come across one.

i live in the town where they filmed the Return to Mayberry movie, & during that time they changed the sign on our post office to read,"Mayberry" well, my stepdad was offshore on a diving job & when my mom picked him up at the airport, on their way home he always had to stop at the PO to check the mail, my mom(apparently having a devious streak) on their way to the PO told him "oh, just so u know, while u were gone they changed the name of our town to Mayberry" (she said she really had to struggle not to smile) well, he was tired, was only half listening, or something so it didn't register, it was late & my mom casually pointed "see" up to the Mayberry sign on the Post Office, she said he jumped out of the car swearin, wtf! stomping his feet, mutherf*ckin this & mutherf*ckin that & geezus how in the hell...who the f*ck would change the name....to f*ckin MAYBERRY?l?!!& on & on & the more my mom laughed the more he stomped around in livid disbelief, & my poor mom, she's one of those people u don't want to be sitting next to if u aren't suppozed to laugh, the more she's not supposed to, the worse it gets, the convulsions, anyways, i wasn't there but my mom loved telling me that story,
she was here, born Phyllis Verdene Hylton, from March 8, 1940, to June 23, 2010.
she's gonna have lots of her dogs, & her cats, & her assorted rescue types, every wherever she has gone to, & her plants & trees & music that has to be good enough to dance to, god bless you mom 💟🙆🙏🏼🌎🌱🐾👣🌿🕊️ your story is famous now...✌️💌🐦

Sadly, I have lost my two brothers within the last year and a half. What makes it worse (in my mind), is that she still lives. I am sorry to hear that Don endured abuse as well. I loved Don Knotts so much. As a young kid, I watched Three’s Comoany for Mr. Furley & Jack Tripper (in that order). LOVED when Mr. Furley drank alcohol then said, “SMOOTH.” With the hands up. Classic! I didn’t watch The Andy Griffith show much until I realized Barney was Mr. Furley (I wasn’t even 10 yet at this point). Don Knotts is so awesome. My other favorite role of his was The Incredible Mr. Limpet. As a kid, I wanted so desperately to live in the ocean. Watched that movie as many time and as often as it would come on. Whenever we’re at Disneyland (California Advemture) & we go on the Little Mermaid ride, I look for the Mr. Limpet fish they put in as an homage to Mr. Knotts. Warms my heart. Thank you for doing this piece on him.

Don was an amazing success story who used talent to entertain millions of people during his long career. I'm proud to say that I was one of his fans. If you understand that you can find strength in your weakness by exploring them then you understand Don Knotts.

The Amazing Mr. Limpet. Aside from the live and cartoon action it gave me the feeling that anyone could take an impossible situation and turn it into an opportunity to count for something when the chips were down.

Loved Don Knotts, so genuine, laid back approach to comedy. God Bless him. We all need humour in our lives. Especially NOW.

Don Knotts, may he rest in peace. He was always one of my favorite comedians on TV specially on the Andy Griffin show, to this day I still watch all the reruns Andy Griffith even though I sting them many times over and over but it never gets old. With everything going on in the world today I still watch Andy Griffin two or three shows per day, just to get my mind off current problems. Today's date is March 7th 2022

Always, loved to see Don Knotts anytime- and Andy Griffith really cheered me up despite problems growing up- He was a talent and should have seen him more- he made TV was worth watching when he showed up as Barney Fife- always glad to see him!🥰
